Such as Catfish or Tilapia? I know Pangasius has a bad reputation of being low in nutrition and is poorly raised, but what about the others? Since there is no huge difference between eating grain-fed or grass-fed red meat, I assume the same is true for farmed or wild caught fish, right?
Am planning on getting into fishing in the coming year, purely because I want to be catching my own food, and have been researching what people usually do. I don't care about becoming "good at it" in a sport sense, I only care about obtaining food, and gaining the skills necessary to do that more reliably.
I already have a very active worm composting bin in my flat, so I have absolutely no shortage of red wigglers - for me they are effectively free and infinitely available, since I maintain the bin well enough that their population will double in size every 3 months if I let it, and there are already thousands of them.
I will be fishing from the shore in freshwater lakes in central Finland, where there should be plenty of roach, whitefish, perch, zander, and pike.
Is there a reason for me to ever move away from bobber and worm fishing, except for pike fishing which sounds like it would require a "bait fish" looking lure?

For me, it would be my grandma’s cabin on the White River. I have been kayaking there for as long as I can remember, and each time is just as fun as the last. Whether we go for an hour or three, I always have fun. Kayaking is peaceful (if you mind the rocks) and there is always so much to see and do-- I have kayaked behind sandhill cranes as they go about fishing, scooped turtles off rocks, fished from the shores and jumped off every bridge.
Or perhaps, for you, it would be going swimming in Lake Michigan and getting ice cream afterword (Traverse City Cherry, anyone?), exploring our thousands of campgrounds, parks, waterfalls, forests, islands, and lakes. From rock hunting for Yooperlites and scuba-diving at Whitefish point to picking apples and drinking hot cider, there is an endless list of what I would miss about Michigan if there was no more water.
Yet, this threat is an actual reality.
But it’s not too late.
Not yet.
I am proud of all our state has to offer, but what makes Michigan so special-- gives Michigan its magic-- is our water. Our vast lakes of freshwater drive everything that is Michigan: It is easily our most vital resource.
Unfortunately, our freshwater needs our help.

I don't want to step on anybody's toes here, but the amount of non-dad jokes here in this subreddit really annoys me. First of all, dad jokes CAN be NSFW, it clearly says so in the sub rules. Secondly, it doesn't automatically make it a dad joke if it's from a conversation between you and your child. Most importantly, the jokes that your CHILDREN tell YOU are not dad jokes. The point of a dad joke is that it's so cheesy only a dad who's trying to be funny would make such a joke. That's it. They are stupid plays on words, lame puns and so on. There has to be a clever pun or wordplay for it to be considered a dad joke.
Again, to all the fellow dads, I apologise if I'm sounding too harsh. But I just needed to get it off my chest.
