Freetown Christiania, also known as Christiania (Danish: Fristaden Christiania or Staden), is an intentional community and commune of about 850 to 1,000 residents, covering 7.7 hectares (19 acres) in the borough of Christianshavn in the Danish capital city of Copenhagen.

Christiania has been a source of controversy since its creation in a squatted military area in 1971. Its cannabis trade was tolerated by authorities until 2004. Since then, relations between Christiania and Danish authorities have been strained. Since the beginning of the 2010s, the situation has been somewhat normalized and Danish law is now enforced in Christiania.

Freetown Christiania is a danish anarchist community of around 1000 people and has been a thing since 1971. Why is it that CHAZ lasted at least a month while Christiania is still going?

I'm considering a trip to Copenhagen, specifically to my spiritual home of Christiania. I've not been for a few years, but when I did I thought the vibe was super, super cool. Knocked the 'Dam into a cocked hat
Only - I heard that a couple of years ago, the residents of Christiania shut down the dealers on Pusher St. To be fair, the gangs that controlled it were fuckin' heavy! (Grenade attacks, anyone?). Then I heard that they were encouraging people to buy their hashish elsewhere.
Does anyone know the current situation?
Or indeed has anyone been before and would like to reminisce?
