I'm just trying to understand. I'm currently in the process of analyzing and creating a city that has a homicide rate of 10 per 100,000 people in Canada for a story I have. However I'm also trying to understand what can cause such high levels of crime and homicide. As David Simon has pointed out:

So I'm just really curious to know what makes these cities especially stand out and why Alberta, in particular, has such a high homicide rate. For reference I'm using this data - Homicide Rate of Major Canadian and American Cities (2018)
As it stands this city has the highest Homicide Rates in Canada according to the rankings database. Given this what kind of things would change if Fort McMurray had a homicide and crime rate that was 1.5 to 2.25 more than what it is now?
