A list of puns related to "Emesis"
Just curious - I was reading about this and realized that apomorphine is one of the drugs they are sensitive to, and one of the only ones with no clear medication alternatives (simparica instead of heartguard, etc).
I really don't like hydrogen peroxide for the potential GI irritant effects, but perhaps this is a situation where there's not a better option?
Googling, I found that there is a relatively new FDA-approved emetic that I'd never heard of ( ropinirole ), but its also a dopamine agonist so I don't know if that means its too similar and would cause similar issues...?
Not asking for specific medical advice, just as a dog nerd, hope that's okay!

Is your stock room also running low on random supplies?
If you live alone and catch a stomach flu or food poisoning then getting to the toilet isnt always possible and living by the toilet is no fun when feeling ill. Cleaning up after a wastebasket nausea event is also harder when sick. Emesis bags are available online in quantity or pre-make your own stack (but be sure there are no holes if you use grocery bags). Then clean up is simple (tie it off and discard) and you can stay in bed until time to let go. By the way, laying flat on your stomach or on all 4s can help make the event go by more quickly and avoid straining muscles in your back.
Suggestion: next time your at a Dr office, see if they have professional grade barf bags- typically a rigid plastic ring with a long skinny bag attached, often in dispenser on the wall. The nurses have never minded when I ask if I can take one home.
I probably puke more than the average person because of chronic migraines, but anyone can get sick. Drive time to the hospital from my house is almost an hour, plus then you always have to wait (especially if it's Saturday night/full moon/Halloween). I've made the trip throwing up into a leaky random plastic bag that happened to be in the car, and yesterday I was very happy to have the right tools. (Bonus, if you're actively puking while talking to the nurse, they are extra willing to give you a clean back-up to restock the glovebox).

Itβs been a tough week - found out I failed my final nursing exam, put my boyfriends dog to sleep, nearly half of our team getting covid, and then being on call Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, and Boxing Day. But on my last evening on call this brightened the mood!
Owners were so worried about the grape situation, but once we made her sick a fabric mask made a reappearance which they had no idea sheβd eaten. So the grape actually saved her from an ex-lap at some point! Gave me a laugh at the end of a hard few days, hope it can for some of you too.
Has anyone been diagnosed with Mallory-Weiss syndrome? Would you tell me about it?
I've had bulimia off & on for 30 years - more off than on. (I'll cycle through eating nothing, purging, eating normally & gaining weight.) I've been binging/purging daily for a few months.
I feel invigorated and happy after purging - it's sick, I know. I've reached the point I love - when eating any large amount of food makes me instantly nauseous and emesis is effortless.
Last night, for the first time, there was bright red blood in the emesis. I was obviously startled.
Because of shame, I don't want to go to the doctor right now. I haven't met my PCP and my city is in a covid red zone, so doctor's visits are a bit more difficult right now.
Has anyone had this happen?
I know the obvious advice - stop purging, see your doctor, this could be serious. I'm trying to get my head together to get help, posting here is my first step.
No shame, please - I'm beating myself up already.
I'm talking about these medical-grade vomit bags you'll see at the hospital. I bought some when my wife was pregnant and now have them stashed in our cars, the house, bugout bags, and my desk at work.
I could see them being pretty handy in a lot of situations. They are a heavy-duty non-latex plastic with a plastic ring at the top that keeps the bag opened wide, and has locking notches in it so you can twist the bag and shut it somewhat securely (there's different styles for the locking notches; some may work better than others). They are lightweight and nest together without taking up a lot of room. The measure marks on the side go up to 36 oz and that's only halfway up the bag, so it could hold about a 1/2 gallon of liquid. And these suckers are fairly cheap too; you can buy them in bulk packs on Amazon for as little as 30-cents a bag.
Some uses I've thought about for them:
What other uses can you come up with?
He got a dose of Emedog yesterday because he ate some chocolate. It made him puke 8 times. His appetite is fine and is drinking fine but heβs just not up to his usual energetic self yet. Is that normal?

If a patient threw up shortly after taking their oral medication, would you advise them to retake their medication? I'm sure the answer depends on how long after administration the vomiting occurs and which medication, but I'm wondering if there are any general recommendations you follow.
What kind of timing would make you recommend retaking medications?
What medications would you be more likely to recommend the patient retake?
So when we had our third, I took everything from the hospital room when we checked out (yes, I'm that guy). One of the things I took turned out to be a stack of what are called "emesis bags." They looked like they were probably big blue barf bags, and when the next stomach bug tore through our family, they were an absolute gamechanger. I cannot recommend them enough. They're like $10 for 25 on Amazon, and we have a few of them in every bathroom and vehicle.
No more desperately trying to get a nauseated kid over a toilet bowl or even just tile/linoleum before they chuck. No more frantic searching for big mixing bowls or large tupperware containers that my wife will insist on throwing away later because they've had barf in them. No more triple-lining bathroom trash cans with crappy plastic grocery bags and hoping at least one of them doesn't have any holes in it. No more cleaning out anything while hoping you can get the container back under the kid's mouth before he heaves again. No more praying a carsick or just sick kid won't yak all over the upholstery in our van before we can get them home.
The kids know where they are, and if they start to feel the least bit nauseated, they go get a couple (usually as they yell for one of us). They are stackable and extremely portableβyou can fit a several in a pocket and whip one out to clap over a nauseated toddler's mouth and nose as soon as they get that look on their face.
Best of all, they twist off and seal away any offending sights or smells immediately. The moment the puking seems to be done, you hand your kid another and you twist off the one they just filled, crimp the twist into a notch in the rim to seal (like a plastic bread tie but bigger), and throw it away in any trash can. No more filling the room and the distance to the nearest toilet with that smell.
I'm the designated nauseated kid handler, hair holder, and puke cleaner-upper in our family, as the smell or sight of vomit makes my wife lose her lunch as well. (At least, she says it doesβif she's making that up, then well-played, my dear!) Even the strongest stomach really hates cleaning sick out of a carpet at 3am, though.
Our 6yo daughter just got through two stomach bugs in two weeks (which has been hell on my sleepβwhy does
