Hey guys! I'm making a Paladin NPC whose backstory makes it make sense for him to know Sword Burst... but Paladins can't cast cantrips. To remedy that, I decided to reskin and slightly alter Earth Tremor so he could use "Sword Burst" as a first level spell.
The main reason I'm posting is because I had the idea to have two different additional effects depending on the outcome of the DEX save, as follows:
Characters that pass the save suffer a knockback of 10 feet directly away from the caster with no opportunity attacks allowed. (Representing them jumping out of the way.
Characters that fail the save have their movement speed reduced to zero until Ini' count 20 on the next turn. (Representing being held in place by the blades erupting from the ground, whether due to piercing limbs or just being densely packed enough to restrict movement.)
What do you think? I'm fairly inexperienced with DMing (this being the first game I've put together in 5e) so any advice is welcome!!

dose it mine that it can break a medium size stone?
The spell earth tremor turns "loose earth or stone" into difficult terrain and I'm confused as to what kind of stone terrain counts.
Particularly if you agree with my interpretation of "loose earth or stone" meaning "loose earth or loose stone".
The only environments I can imagine that count as loose stone are beaches made from stones, or cobblestone streets.
I couldn't imagine the solid stone floor of a cave/dungeon/castle would be eligible for the spell?
What do you guys think?
Im picking spells for my bard and I came across Earth Tremor. It says you create a tremor in the ground within range (10 feet), but is that just a circle around you, or is this a point within range, and if so what is the radius of that point?
Described in Cary Elwes' book 'As You Wish', the cast had difficulty finishing the scene without laughing. Andre the Giant exclaimed in his heavy accent, "That was a big one, wasn't it?"
So I have a campaign set on the see and one of my players asked what would happen if they used the spell Earth Tremor at the bottom of the ship, I am debating whether or not I should allow it. What do you wonderful people think? If I do allow it I will probably have it break up the bottom of the ship and the caster will fall through into the water. What do you think the effect should be?
