A list of puns related to "Dvd Region Code"
*Updated to confirm answers*
Hello DEG fans,
Hopefully this post will help other people too and not just me.
Is there any known online catalogue where you can check the region code compatibility information for Dir en grey DVD / Blu Ray releases before ordering from Japan? I have some products in mind however if there's a way to check all their discography for future reference then that is good too.
I have consulted CDJapan, YesAsia, Discogs website, and also official Dir En Grey website and still feel uncertain. YesAsia seems to be particularly unreliable as it sometimes has Blu Ray and DVD region codes mixed up.
I am specifically interested in knowing which region code (or if it's region free) for the following products. Correct me if I am wrong but I believe the below Blu ray products were only ever released in Japan so there probably will be one definitive answer for each of the below. Please exclude bootlegs from consideration too:
Thanks for help. If you own any of the above perhaps you can check manually. Hopefully any answers will help other international buyers too.
Help!
I got a couple of DVDs from the library, and while all of the others can be played, including a Nat Geo documentary, all my criterion collection DVDs cannot be played. They are not blu-ray disks, they are DVDs. The back of the boxes all clearly state the disks are region 1, so I'm not sure why it won't play. Thanks for the help!
If I buy a Japanese laptop, will I be able to play UK DVDs on it? (It seems possible as Japan and the UK are both region 2, but I was wondering if anyone had tried)
Like the title says: what TV shows are available on DVD for regions 2-4 that arenβt for region one? I know a few like:
I was going to finally buy Taeyeon's Voice album, Type-A. It comes with the DVD, but I got a warning that it's Region 2.
I'm in Region 4 (Australia), and am concerned it won't play for me if I purchase it. Region 4 includes Australia, New Zealand, Pacific Islands, Central America, Mexico, South America, and the Caribbean.
What experiences did you have if you bought this album and live outside of Region 2 ( Japan, Europe, South Africa, Greenland and the Middle East (including Egypt)? Especially playing it in a DVD player, and not on a computer (I don't have a CD player in my laptop).
I've never really come across this before because SNSD's Korean DVD's are normally Region All.
(Also I will probably reply to any comments pretty late since its 3.12am and I'm going to bed now)
Edit: Apparently the actual disc is Region All! Thank you for all your help <3
I'm currently on 5.05 and I'd love to play some pal dvds I have.
Any ideas if this is possible? I know changing countries can only be done a few times before being locked, but I want to keep my PS4 in region 1.
Thanks
I'm a huge Initial D fan from Europe.
I wanted to buy the anime series on DVD, there seem to be 2 releases available.
One from Playtech Asia, billed as "region free", without the new Funimation dubs https://www.playtech-asia.com/initial-d-stage-1-6-dvd-complete-set-movie.html
One with the new Funimation dubs, billed as "Region 1"/"Region A" https://www.rightstufanime.com/Initial-D-Stage-1-DVD-Complete-Collection-Hyb-S-A-V-E-Edition https://www.rightstufanime.com/Initial-D-Legend-Theatrical-Collection-Blu-ray
Of course I would really like the English dubs and the BD versions of the standalone movies.
Can anyone confirm or deny that the Funimation ones really have a region code? Those woudn't be the first DVDs with the region code only existing on the box.
Thanks for your help!
I know there was a fairly recent DVD release included in the βComplete Adventuresβ box set but I can only find that as a US import so I assume itβs region 1.
Looking on eBay I can see some region 2/B stuff but theyβre all German packaging. Anyone know what language the menus/audio/etc are on those?
Any help appreciated, Iβd really like to fill this gap in my physical media collection!
I remember getting the It Chapter One DVD during my holiday break in America as an early birthday gift from my dad and brought it back home to the UK to watch it. But then I realized that I couldn't play it, because of goddamned region codes. It's pretty goddamn annoying. You blow a few bucks (or UK pounds) just to get an inoperable DVD. Well, guess I have to give it back to the US--oh wait, it's been two weeks. I couldn't return it. Goddamn it.
Region codes are such a pain in the ass. They take a few countries and then they say: "Slap number one on those countries." For others, they say: "Slap the number two on Europe, slap the number three on parts of Asia" and so on. I get this is to prevent copyright infringement, but what if after your well-deserved break, you wanted to play it at home in a different country, and you know it doesn't work.
The DVD is now a waste of cash.
Region codes are also confusing and adds more insult to injury. Like I said in the second paragraph, countries have numbers for region codes. This means that I have to search online to see what Region 1 is. Also, how in the hell do they region-lock a CD/DVD?
It's best if they weren't there. The only thing I like to see is the copy-protection system on the said discs. It should be enough for them, but they had to go to extreme limits with region codes.
Copy-protection is good. Add region codes and now it's bad.
Is there any real point to region codes?
I feel like this would be like a car imported from another country would not have a fuel aperture that would fit a gas pump nozzle in the US because the car of a different country has a differently-shaped fuel aperture. See how ridiculous that is?
I want to play a region 2 dvd on a ps4 but you can only change region a few times, is there a way to remove or change the code without having to burn a new one? All the stuff Iβve found online seem to suggest you have to rip them and make a new copy, but I want to use the original dvd.
Hi!
So I live in Australia, which is Region 4 for DVD's. I purchased a Region 1 DVD as a gift (had no other option) and was wondering if MakeMKV will allow me to rip the disk and copy it to a DVD-R or DVD-RW purchased here in Aus and if it will then allow me to play it on my DVD player?
I've read a lot of posts here that say people are mostly using the software to have digital versions of their film libraries, but not much about transferring to a hard copy. Is this a function that MakeMKV is able to do?
If not, can anyone point me to a community on here that can help? I'm only really tech savvy when it comes to basic computer knowledge and use, and haven't ripped a DVD for over 10 years, so I'm completely out of touch with how to do it with today's technology.
For some time now Iβve been working (obsessing might be a better word) on reverse engineering the PIC that allows the Panasonic Q to read and play PAL DVDβs movies and allow the Gamecube to switch between NTSC-U and -J
Ever since I got my Q I thought it was interesting it could play PAL movies while others couldnβt. Fast forward 5 years and I opened up the beast that is the Q and started doing some research on how the region free mod came to be.
What I had found so far was:
&
(*) Developed in the UK and partnered with Lik-Sang. Came modded for anyone who bought it through Lin-Sang back in the day. Allowed all region DVD playback and could swap between Gamecube region NTSC-U and -J by holding down the powerbutton on the frontpanel.
(**) Developed in EU and basically the same as the Lik-Sang model but able to switch Gamecube region with a button combination on the remote (awesome!)
To enable PAL playback you need to add extra RAM to help the DVD mainboard to process the extra image lines that comes with the PAL resolution (576 over the 480 that is NTSC). Some decoupling capacitors are also needed but Iβve checked my own Lik-Sang variant and have noticed that the Capacitors are absent but the PAL playback still works (?!).
The elusive Panasonic Q service disc 2 is only needed if you want NTSC-U playback. (The disc permanently changes the region from J to U until the disc is reinserted and the process is reversed).
The code that enabled the region mod unfortunately is locked behind a copy protection fuse. So I decided to search for and reach out to the people that made these 2 variants. This unfortunately didnβt net me wholesome results.
The developer for the Lik-Sang variant is in prison for sexual crimes :/ and the EU variant makers are the types that donβt want to be found. Through some associates from the EU variant I was able to get my hands on the code for the RV31 and XV10 on which the Panasonic Q DVD board is based on. But unfortunately the code for these 2 have some differences with one another albeit being identical in hardware that it would seem that just using one of these 2 codes would probably result in a non working mod for the Q.
Hitting a wall when it came to the code I decided to start decapping my own chip by means of acid and hopefully be able to share the content with the community.
I will update with new posts so please stay
... keep reading on reddit β‘Iβd love to have the show on physical copy, and I use an Xbox to play my dvds which arent region free, so Iβm just wondering if there is a region 1 release at all, whether itβs rare or not
Hi everyone!
I'm in Europe and I really want to buy dvd's of Bob's Burgers bc I don't want to pay a subscription to Disney+ (the only way to watch the show in my country, the tv channel where I watched it before doesn't have rights anymore).
Do you have any idea of website where I could buy dvd's (Region 2) ?
Thanks for your attention, Have a good day !
Hello r/gamecube!
Hoping someone might be able to help me find the last part I need to finish fixing up my panasonic Q. I was able to mcguyver the rails and disc drive to finally start working and got a modchip in there to make the GC portion region free, but the last thing I need to do is unlock the DVD regions.
Does anyone happen to have the ISO for the Panasonic Q DVD region service disc? Any leads would be greatly appreciated!
Hey ps3hacks,
I got a couple of DVDs from the library, and while all of the others can be played, including a Nat Geo documentary, all my criterion collection DVDs cannot be played. I have tried setting the region in multiman from default to Region 1, but it still won't play. The back of the boxes all clearly state the disks are region 1, so I'm not sure why it won't play. Thanks for the help!
Does anyone know where to get a Region 1 Goosebumps Complete DVD series?
