Why is Red Eagle, the legendary hero of Reachmen in Skyrim, a draugr in the game?

Makes no sense to me, aren't draugr exclusively Nords? Why does he also know how to shout as if he was a Nord? Where did he learn shouts, how did he learn them?

It was quite a disappointment to see this after reading the Legend of Red Eagle book. Expected something unique and interesting but nope, just another draugr deathlord to kill.

Draugrs - the caretakers of the ruins

Hi. There ain't much lore I've managed to dig up on this subject. Most of it actually comes from the book "Amongst the Draugrs" which you fin in skyrim.

I just wonder if anyone have additional facts about what are draugrs exactly doing in the tombs.

Anything is useful for me on this subject, so please share if you have something

EDIT 08.12.2021:

I did not expect this massive amount of feedback. Many thanks to all of you for giving input. The reason I actually post here is because I'm working on a mod that is going to give the draugrs more tasks to do and it is much more inspiring for me to know why I do it and that I'm as lorefriendly as I can be on this matter.

This is info I picked from all answers in the thread:

- they are sleeping in shifts and each shift is responsible for maintenance of the tomb where the at least the following tasks are included (this also means you can really never clear out a tomb because most draugrs will actually be sleeping, and to you, look like they're truly dead):

Interior tasks:

  • Lit and refill candles, fires and torches, urns, food, potions etc
  • Cleaning and repairing the tomb (I'm thinking this includes the major cleaning/repair parts such as keeping the hallways intact and free of obstacles and not general household level.
  • Guarding doors such as those sliding ones that only opens with dragonclaws
  • Guarding the ruins in general against bandits and adventurers that might venture in.
  • Worshipping at the dragon priest coffins to exchange their lifeforce back to their dragon priest. then go to their sleeping places to retain their lifeforce

Exterior tasks:

  • Resource patrols to gain lumbers, pelts, meat/fats and oils from animals for candle materials,
  • Controversial: Draugrs are able to launch attacks against outside enemies that are threatening their way of life. Such as bandits occupying ruins: Example: Volskygge in Skyrim. As a sidenote, I think I read somewhere that bandits in these places was leaving offerings for the draugs to avoid getting attacked by them, but I can't seem to find any reference on this.
  • Guard patrol in places where this seems like strategic good idea, example Labyrinthian in Skyrim. This already exist in the vanilla game in some places.
  • Worshipping trips: A trip to dragon lairs to pay respect or offerings to their true masters of their cult (dragon priests where only dedicated by the dragons themselves to lead the men)

These tasks helps define new rol

Draugr Question

Can draugr just leave their tombs? I know that in "Amongst the Draugr" that the common draugr are basically slaves/mindless automatons that clean, worship, and guard the tombs but can the unique draugr/dragon priests wander out and do their own things? Are they bound to their tombs like a vampire to their coffin (obviously a classic real world trope and not in tes lore)?

I tried to turn it off and back on while recording it, but it wouldn’t do it again. It’s only the first time it comes on, so If i remember I’ll record it next time. How many hours can one play Requiem and still enjoy fighting Bandits & Draugr?

In a single playthrough, I mean.

Basically I want to be able to screw around in Skyrim & replay the vanilla side quests (been a while), and then go explore Bruma (or vice versa) yet still find non-dragon-level encounters there fun (in other words, not yet be a god and thus ruin the experience or have to start a new playthrough).

But based on other posts:

  • around level 30 or so you pretty much become one punch man versus bandits/dragur (but idk how long it takes to get to that point)
  • also magic can be OP out the gate (I've seen Requiem for a Knave & Magic Redone recommended for that)
  • some people set exp gain to 50% in mcm

Obviously I could stick with vanilla and fight LA bandits forever, but I like realism of an unleveled world (was cool with MLU actually having to turn back from a drawvern ruin!) and Requiem sounds more fun for RP (fewer "gameplay" mods needed is also nice). So I thought I'd just ask.

tl;dr How many hours can you put in on a character before you can't play the normal adventurer anymore and have to focus on the endgame?

Getting killed by draugr at level 3 and loving it

Just want to share my latest play through experience. I've assembled and tweaked a mod list focused on realism and immersion (withing game limits of course). Using Skyrim Unbound for start. Mostly using this play through for semi-tuning/testing purposes (waiting for some big mods,...). Still, I do play normally. Except for small skill in restoration, all other magic skills are 0. One handed/alchemy focus. Think Aragorn/Faramir if you wish.

So I walk into Hillgrund's Tomb with Goldir, facing up to 2-3 draugr at a time is doable. Then we get attacked by 5. They are min lvl 16 and Resist Piercing (-50% dmg by arrows/daggers) in my game. Impossible. So I decide to leave. Go outside, do some adventuring, earn money, able to hire Jenassa. Go back, able to get all the way to the end fight. Some draugr now cast spells. We get beaten and retreat. Without silver weapons and/or more members in the party, we cannot win. Seems fair to me. Just a beginner attacking the undead. My equipment is basic and unfitted to me. So now I am off to stock up on more stamina/health potions, and hire another merc.

From descriptions of Requiem (I've never tried it), it seems I am facing something similar, but I never wanted to 'copy' Requiem. I only wanted a game that make sense in some basic things, and provides a balanced sense of progression.

Ongoing gameplay Mod list here (updated in case I add/change something)

Hulking Draugr among the 500 Companions

Recently a post had me looking a bit into hulking draugr.

Note how they are red-brown/ruddy skinned, taller than regular draugr, and beside their spiked belts, they wear a particular style of armor similar to the dragon priests, yet the heads at the corners of their (letΒ΄s call it) are dissimilar, rather IMO evoking either the image of snakes or hawks totems rather than dragons.

In comparison, the Songs of the Return Volume 24, the First Tale of the Krilot Lok (meaning "valiant sky/rise/flight" in dovahzul), mention: "sinewy long folk from the [eastern] edge of Atmora. Their ruddy skin matched the dawn".

IMO this is yet more clear proof that the use of dovahzul was not restricted to the priests in the times before the Dragon War: indeed even the source of this notion only claims that the names "drag-khon" and "dov-rha" are forbidden to be used by anyone not a priest. Another indication IMO that the use of the Thuum predates the Dragon War, even if it made it more popular.

While this crew sailed all the way to Argonia, I only think it logical that some others of their ethnicity would also migrate to Skyrim in the following centuries.

The name of their ship also attests to them knowing some dovahzul at least and, IF the animal head on their armor represents a hawk (I would like your opinion on that), both taken together with the mythology behind their skin color: "Their ruddy skin matched the dawn and it was often said that morning herself learned [her glorious colors from] the first faces to meet her at the break of day." would imply some serious connections to the open sky and thus Kyne.

Names are given as: Roeth, Breff the Elder, Britte, Greyf. Which are all rather short and do not

For those interested, this is how you get dragon heart scales for the master level Alteration quest before completing Dragon Rising.

I ended up using Staff of Worms to raise a Draugr Deathlord. Then I went through the debate hall in Blackreach to get to a high enough level for my Deathlord's shout to hit the glowing orb, then punched him until he became hostile and positioned myself between him and the orb so his shout would hit it.

Looking for a Draugr replacer mod - Into something "not creepy"

Hey. My wife started another Skyrim playthrough after several years of not playing, and she's made a few minor complaints that the Draugr are not her favorite because of how they seemingly creep into melee range from thin air. She made an offhanded comment about how they would be much nicer if they "were like, Hello Kitty or something."

Are there any replacers that have completely non-threatening visuals and/or audio? Hello Kitty, Nyancat, whatever. I want to install the mod when she's not home and wait for the confusion.

Thanks in advance.

Draugr and Fulings out of nowhere

So we wanted to set up our base in some Meadows near the Elder. On our way, via ship, we had passed a swamp and encountered a camp of Fulings.
While clearing a place for our base, I hear the sound of a Draugr attacking a deer. And yes, two Draugr. In the meadows. Nowhere near the swamp, I think. They were easy to defeat, but five minutes later, a Fuling comes out of the water. This little bastard was tough. We managed to kill him, but it was a close call. Well, I guess the game is telling us to set up our base in another place, I guess?
I'm certain we didn't pull any enemies while sailing by. Anything like this happened to you, brothers?
