A list of puns related to "Dieu Et Mon Droit"
So as in the title. I'm curious if these two mods are compatible with each other.
Pros? Cons? Favorites?
The date is March 18th, 1936. The time is 9:02 AM, and Prime Minister Mackenzie King stands desperately before the Canadian House of Commons, trying to save a government well on its way to dying. MPs shout at each other in barley coherent sentences, and several appear close to coming to blows. Trying to be heard over the noise, King shouts out.
"Silence! Order! ORDER I SAID!"
His words are drowned out, and those few that hear him hurl back insults and panic.
"Shut up, you fool! This is all your fault!"
"Canada is doomed!"
"You selfish bastards, you'll kill us all!"
Mackenzie's voice died in his throat, and the madness resumed unabated.
BANG BANG BANG
A knock at the door. Three knocks, with something heavy.
No... surely not even he would be so bold?
The door swings open, and there stands His Majesty King Edward VIII, dressed in his finest uniform. Silence rules the chamber. Edward takes a step forward. And then another. And then another.
A King has just entered the House of Commons for the first time since 1642.
King Edward walks forward to the centre of the room, and then, greeted still by shocked silence, speaks.
"Empowered by ancient decree I do, as King of Canada, use my Royal prerogative here to dissolve the Parliament at once."
The House explodes into uproar, and the shouting resumes. Unmoved, Edward waits. Once the shouting has died down, he speaks again.
"This noise demeans the very institution which you serve. Is this the space where public will is spoke and heard, or just a stand for juvenile and selfish squall? Through petty theft, and fighting here amongst yourselves, you've lost the population's trust. Now silence, all of you, and begone. The speaker knows it is within my right, to sack my ministers and call a fresh election. Prime Minister, you shall serve on as PM until next month, wherein a new election shall be held. Until that time, Parliament is closed."
With that, the King leaves. Finally, after a month of chaos, there is once again direction. Timely intervention has prevented the catastrophe of 1925 from taking hold again, and proper British democracy has been restored. Though disaster has been stopped and the streets no longer pulse with violence, the next month will be a hard one. The government will survive and the people will be reunited, but the soul of the nation will never be the same.
Greetings to France, our eternal ally and NATO friend.
The US is now making clear that they oppose a French military base within the North American continent. Following the decline of the US after the events of 2018, and the general chaotic nature of world affairs, the US has been unable to commit to national and international security commitments globally. With our withdrawal from most of the Middle East and the nuclear withdrawal from Italy, we would like our sphere of the world to remain in our hands.
While we continue to share geopolitical concerns through NATO and Article V, we cannot in good faith allow for foreign military bases in Quebec. Just as we have notified Canada that we are concerned with their stationing of British bases, the US envisions NATO in North America as being of sovereign countries managing their own defenses regardless of European provisions there.
We request that France withdraw their attempts to set up a base in Quebec. In return, the US is willing to consider the transfer of some overseas assets to France that we believe are no longer necessary for our strategic projection, for example, our base in Diego Garcia, or in Oman.
