A list of puns related to "Democratic Peace Theory"
Additionally, are there examples of countries which became mature liberal democracies, and never went to war since?
(Update: Thanks for all the in-depth responses! It adds some new angles to how I see DPT!)
Hugo and Josh discuss whether democracies really are peaceful with respect to one another, and if so, what the best explanation for it might be.

Democratic peace theory is the notion that world peace can be achieved if the entire world was governed by democracies. This is based on the (debatable) claim that fully democratic nations have never gone to war with each other. Is this theory plausible?
I used to believe in the democratic peace theory but then I found this list of wars between democracies on wikipedia: https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_wars_between_democracies. So how true is the democratic peace theory really?
I ask because its such an easy theory to believe, but the numerical evidence doesn't support this. I was just wondering the general attitude people have towards this.
There haven't been any threads on the subject, even though it gets mentioned occasionally. What do you think about it?
There's a theory that several democratic senators didn't like BBB with similar concerns to Joe Manchin, and were relived when it failed. Although Joe Manchin (and Kristen Sinema) were the only one to publicly oppose it because unlike most other senators, disagreeing with Democrats/Joe Biden helps rather than hurts him in West Virginia. So they let him take the punches. Is this a credible theory?
Could anyone point me towards any good democratic peace theory justifications?
Hey, so I've slowly been figuring out where exactly on the left I fall and for a while have been considering myself somewhere between a democratic socialist and a eurocommunist / demcom. Because i now have some labels i think apply to my position I was gonna get into reading some actual theory, but the sheer amount of books by Marx, Luxemburg and everyone else was kinda overwhelming.
So basically, I'd love a reading list or some suggestions :) Specifically I plan on reading some groundwork theory like Das Kapital and then some Rosa Luxemburg. But at that point i already don't know what her most important works are.
(I'm German so for Books from German authors I'd probably read the original and otherwise english translations)
thanks in advance!
The Eternal War(http://www.reddit.com/comments/uxpil/ive_been_playing_the_same_game_of_civilization_ii/) is a dystopian world where 3 totalitarian superpowers wage perpetual war against each other (Hello "1984"!). In my turn, I've created my own world(http://www.reddit.com/r/theeternalwar/comments/27mcxx/my_experiment_enternal_cold_war_and_arms_races/) based on the Eternal War and my interpretation of the democratic peace theory. (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Democratic_peace_theory)
There are 3 mutually hostile democratic superpowers that have signed a peace treaty with each other. Militarists are eager to begin war, but their power to declare war is severely restricted by the peace-loving Senate. In theory they can overthrow the Senate by force, then become a junta and strike the enemies first, but it will cause huge civil disorders all over the country. And surprise, surprise, a country that is weakened by civil war has almost no chances to defeat its enemies. Temporal alliance with another junta is a questionable solution because it can betray them in any moment. And by the way, even two juntas in fire of civil wars still have poor chances to defeat one good armed and healthy democratic superpower. And last but not least: this's post-petroleum world, thus nuclear plants are quite common and civil disorders can cause deadly nuclear meltdowns all over the country. So, as you can see, the aggressor(s) will have to take vulnerable position from the very beginning. But on the other hand, almost all information about size and equipment of the army is considered as top-secret, thus every country prefer to be pessimistic about power of the armies of its enemies and try its best to have as big and technically advanced the army as it only can affords. Cold war in eternity.
To be honestly, I didn't plan to create this world, it happened almost by accident when I was experimenting with The Eternal War. But when I think about it, it seems unusually realistic for me. Spreading of democracy is tendency, therefore this situation has good chance to happen in the future
P.S. I'm new on Reddit, thus if you believe my topic is inappropriate for this subreddit, then please give me advice for appropriate subreddit.
I'm only half joking.
Page 279 from the hard back "I remember your pimply face when you rode with a Conqueror. I remember how you act when Merlin cast you out" Conqueror is spelled with a capital C. So who might that be in history? And if she was cast out by Merlin does that mean she has some base in Morgana lefey? Just looking for some theories, ideas, and chat Oh this was said by corn btw
Hey, Iβm writing a large piece on the normative and structural links between trade interdependence and the democratic peace (ie: are more democratic states more likely to trade with each other, and does this effect peacefulness).
If anyone knows any articles around this topic that would be very helpful. I know a few scholars in this field, but maybe thereβs some obscure ones π
I've seen a lot of channels on Youtube dedicated to explaining Marxist and Anarchist theory and practice. They discuss revolutionary strategy and such from their perspective.
Social Democrats also need a strategy for our ends, and I was wondering if any Youtubers had covered that topic.
