A list of puns related to "Congreve"
I filled out the housing application yesterday and I chose room 133 because it looked like the largest of the rest of the options left. How is it inside? Is it a spacious single, as in not too cramped?

I am fascinated by the true military/historical aspects of the long range bombardment of Fort McHenry. It has been mythologized into a magical defense of the fort, but from the history I can find, it seems like the long range bombardment on Fort McHenry was actually quite ineffective. I'm curious about how the British commanders actually perceived the events and why they ordered the bombardment to continue for 25 hours with minimal effect.
The British seem to have committed a fair amount of resources into retooling their ships into bombardment ships. My understanding is that the hulls had to be structurally reinforced and the ships redesigned. (Indeed, one of the bombardment ships at the Battle of Baltimore, The Terror, became famous during the Franklin Expedition. It was chosen because its reinforced hull could handle ice.) The rocket ships also seem to have been designed to mainly fire rockets, though I imagine the redesign was less expensive.
Was the bombardment ineffective because of the nature of Fort McHenry or because of deficiencies in British weapons?
Did the British actually believe they could silence enough of the cannons in the earthen fort enough for the ships to enter the harbor?
Thank you in advance!
