In 2022, the CSTO celebrates two anniversaries - the 30th anniversary of the signing of the Collective Security Treaty and the 20th anniversary of the creation of the organization itself. Armenia has the honor to preside over this period. This status was transferred from Tajikistan in September last year.
Against the background of the rapidly changing situation in Kazakhstan, the Prime Minister of Armenia designated the CSTO priority to strengthen crisis response mechanisms.
The participating countries are concerned about the continuation of the tense situation in Afghanistan, where the internal armed confrontation is expected to intensify. It also noted the intensification of the activities of terrorist organizations, the expansion of drug trafficking, and the increase in uncontrolled migration.

In general, taking into account the existing challenges, the Armenian authorities have approved the priority of their chairmanship to increase the effectiveness of the Collective Security Treaty Organization, in particular, the development of the military component of the organization, as well as countering biological threats. The main goals are traditional: strengthening the joint activities of states to counter terrorism, extremism, drug trafficking, and migration security. Armenia's chairmanship of the CSTO has a beneficial effect on the development of the republic's cooperation with the UN, Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO), CIS and OSCE.
Armenia has the opportunity to use the chairmanship of the organization to achieve its own goals. The leadership of the republic has repeatedly stated about the violation of the border, but has not made an official request for assistance to the CSTO. The first step necessary for Armenia's demands to the CSTO to have more grounds is the delimitation and demarcation of the border with Azerbaijan. This is the most important issue, its implementation will remove a lot of problems.
