A list of puns related to "Caleb Carr"
I recently listened to The Alienist written by Caleb Carr and narrated by George Guidall.
An alienist, at the turn of the 19th century at least, is what we might think of as a psychologist today. Dr Kreizler, a well known Alienist, and Mr Moore, both friends of Theodore Roosevelt, are secretly commissioned by Roosevelt to form a secret police unit that will be the first to engage in forensic psychology in order to capture a disturbed individual that's been murdering children, mostly male children who are prostitutes dressed as girls, throughout New York city.
Narration: George Guidall does an excellent job with the text, however, I think it helps that the text is written from the perspective of Mr. Moore who is a bit of the so called 'everyman' in the story. He pairs nicely George Guidall's down to earth narration style.
Conclusion: This is a really interesting historical mystery with strong psychological undertones. The book is both well researched and well written and really captures the emotions of the characters as well as the tenor of New York city at that time. It's an excellent choice for those who want a period crime novel in the city that never sleeps.

Title says it all really. Having just finished the alienest I'm looking for similar reads about the victorian period In all countries.
Happy Holidays to everyone!
I recently stumbled on Caleb Carr's 'Broken' which seems to be a historical fantasy (I've only read the first couple of pages). Previously, I'd only thought of this author in the context of historical fiction ('The Alienist', etc); he seems to do that rather well. Based on reading a grand total of 5 pages of Broken, Carr also seems to do fantasy well with a literary touch. Thoughts on this work from the group - assuming you've even heard of it?
Buzzfeed Unsolved True Crime has just premiered for season 5 and I am, once again, sucked into the world of serial killers and puzzling mysteries.
I would prefer fictional books about/set in the timeframe of infamous killers, such as Jack the Ripper, etc. I have no preference on who writes the novel, as long as the plot is compelling to keep up with and the prose is written well.
Please suggest novels written/translated into English, as it is the language I can read fluently. I have very little French prowess, unfortunately.
I just wanted to come here and rave about this book. I know Iβm a little late to the party on this one.
Iβm about halfway through and it has completely engrossed me. I find Carrβs writing to be thrilling. From the first chapter I knew this was going to be a wild ride. Unfortunately life has gotten in the way so it will probably take me a few more days to finish, but I wanted to know everyone elseβs thoughts on the book!
I absolutely loved it. Iβm also a huge fan of Devil in the White City by Erik Larson. Any other books along these lines you can suggest?
I really didn't like other books by this author though. But I liked the detective aspect of it.
Good evening, my fellow readers! I am currently seeking to acquire a few certain books that I am wanting to read, some of which I have been for quite a while. If any of my friends here on this subreddit own any of these titles and would be willing to exchange for other reading material from my own collection, I would appreciate it greatly!
The books that I am presently looking for are:
As for these requests, I do know that some of these titles and subject matters are pretty specific and unique, but if any one out there has any of these that you would be willing to trade, I would love to do an exchange! If the opportunity presents itself to us to be able to participate in a swapping of books, please simply let me know what particular authors, genres, etc. you enjoy, and I will be more than happy to go through my huge collection, which contains a plethora of books on all different natures and subject matters, and will most likely be able to find something suitable to your liking to offer in return.
Thank you in advance, my friends, with best wishes and the upmost regards to you all.

I just read The Alienist by Caleb Carr and loved it! I was wondering if you guys have any other ideas for books focusing on serial killers/crimes/investigations with a historical context. I've also read The Devil in the White City and quite enjoyed that as well.
It's been a while since I read it, but "Jonathan Strange and Mr Norrell" had a real history book feel that I surprisingly hadn't encountered in other historical fiction, especially early on. Wondering whether there were any other books that feel similar.
Books like the "Ology" series of fictional encyclopaedia are not really what I'm looking for but welcome too. Not looking for books about mythical creatures or anything like that.
Thank you!

I'm looking for a compelling villain, someone you love to hate. They don't need to have a back story that justifies their actions, they can just be awful.
Do your worst!
I'm surprised it hasn't decade.
For context I'm a Refuse Driver (Garbage man) & today I was on food waste. After I'd tipped I was checking the wagon for any defects when I spotted a lone pea balanced on the lifts.

Before round one comes around, Fremantleβs Caleb Serong would have celebrated his 21st birthday.
For most, the milestone marks a coming of age moment. But the midfielder is already going about his business with a sense of calm and a composure far beyond his years.
Over a seven-game stretch to end season 2021, Serong was one of just six players across the AFL to average at least 25 disposals, 15 uncontested possessions, six clearances and six score involvements, according to Champion Data.
The other names on that list? 2021βs Brownlow medallist Ollie Wines, Norm Smith medallist Christian Petracca, Gary Ayres Award winner Jack Macrae and club champions Jack Steele (St Kilda) and Rory Laird (Adelaide).
From round 17 onwards, Serong recorded a 32 per cent increase in disposals, a 31 per cent rise in score involvements and almost doubled his clearance output (up by 45 per cent).
No wonder most expect him to be amongst the most-improved players in the competition in 2022.
Serong announced his arrival as a dangerous midfielder in his own right after he was given the opportunity to break the shackles that had seen him handed a run-with role early in his career.
But there was method to what, in hindsight, appeared to be madness from those moving the magnets at Fremantle.
Midfield coach Josh Carr said from the moment Serong walked into the club, he was asking questions. The boy from country Victoria wanted to get learn and get better. The sponge, as Carr described him, met the deep end early.
βWe thought it was really beneficial for him and his development as a player to learn from some of the best in the competition, keep him around the ball and improve his game,β Carr said.
Serong was used to nullifying the influence of the oppositionβs stoppage superstars - most of whom had more years of footy on him than he had studs on his boots.
After a productive first year and another pre-season under his belt, Serong was often used as a solid tag against βclass playersβ in 2021, pinching blocks from his opponentβs games as he looked to build his own.
βI learnt a lot ... but it was different things from each player,β Serong told The West Australian. βFor example, (Essendonβs Zach Merrett) always stayed involved in the game ... mentally being able to stay switched on a lot was something I lear

If it needs a NSFW tag it's not a dad joke. There should just be a NSFW puns subreddit for that.
