A list of puns related to "Caleb Carr (governor)"
I recently listened to The Alienist written by Caleb Carr and narrated by George Guidall.
An alienist, at the turn of the 19th century at least, is what we might think of as a psychologist today. Dr Kreizler, a well known Alienist, and Mr Moore, both friends of Theodore Roosevelt, are secretly commissioned by Roosevelt to form a secret police unit that will be the first to engage in forensic psychology in order to capture a disturbed individual that's been murdering children, mostly male children who are prostitutes dressed as girls, throughout New York city.
Narration: George Guidall does an excellent job with the text, however, I think it helps that the text is written from the perspective of Mr. Moore who is a bit of the so called 'everyman' in the story. He pairs nicely George Guidall's down to earth narration style.
Conclusion: This is a really interesting historical mystery with strong psychological undertones. The book is both well researched and well written and really captures the emotions of the characters as well as the tenor of New York city at that time. It's an excellent choice for those who want a period crime novel in the city that never sleeps.

Title says it all really. Having just finished the alienest I'm looking for similar reads about the victorian period In all countries.
Happy Holidays to everyone!
I recently stumbled on Caleb Carr's 'Broken' which seems to be a historical fantasy (I've only read the first couple of pages). Previously, I'd only thought of this author in the context of historical fiction ('The Alienist', etc); he seems to do that rather well. Based on reading a grand total of 5 pages of Broken, Carr also seems to do fantasy well with a literary touch. Thoughts on this work from the group - assuming you've even heard of it?
Buzzfeed Unsolved True Crime has just premiered for season 5 and I am, once again, sucked into the world of serial killers and puzzling mysteries.
I would prefer fictional books about/set in the timeframe of infamous killers, such as Jack the Ripper, etc. I have no preference on who writes the novel, as long as the plot is compelling to keep up with and the prose is written well.
Please suggest novels written/translated into English, as it is the language I can read fluently. I have very little French prowess, unfortunately.
I just wanted to come here and rave about this book. I know Iβm a little late to the party on this one.
Iβm about halfway through and it has completely engrossed me. I find Carrβs writing to be thrilling. From the first chapter I knew this was going to be a wild ride. Unfortunately life has gotten in the way so it will probably take me a few more days to finish, but I wanted to know everyone elseβs thoughts on the book!
I absolutely loved it. Iβm also a huge fan of Devil in the White City by Erik Larson. Any other books along these lines you can suggest?
I really didn't like other books by this author though. But I liked the detective aspect of it.
Good evening, my fellow readers! I am currently seeking to acquire a few certain books that I am wanting to read, some of which I have been for quite a while. If any of my friends here on this subreddit own any of these titles and would be willing to exchange for other reading material from my own collection, I would appreciate it greatly!
The books that I am presently looking for are:
As for these requests, I do know that some of these titles and subject matters are pretty specific and unique, but if any one out there has any of these that you would be willing to trade, I would love to do an exchange! If the opportunity presents itself to us to be able to participate in a swapping of books, please simply let me know what particular authors, genres, etc. you enjoy, and I will be more than happy to go through my huge collection, which contains a plethora of books on all different natures and subject matters, and will most likely be able to find something suitable to your liking to offer in return.
Thank you in advance, my friends, with best wishes and the upmost regards to you all.

I just read The Alienist by Caleb Carr and loved it! I was wondering if you guys have any other ideas for books focusing on serial killers/crimes/investigations with a historical context. I've also read The Devil in the White City and quite enjoyed that as well.
I really enjoyed The Alienist. If you did as well, what other books like it have you read?
