Pierre Sprey, the man that argued the M48 Patton is superior to the M1 Abrams in nearly every way. Also stated a WW2 Japanese destroyer was more powerful than a Brooklyn-class cruiser due to the destroyer having torpedos and the cruiser not having them.

What do you think Atlanta or Brooklyn class light cruiser in 1.87?

There are guns mounted on the Brooklyn class in the game files but are those just the ones for the AI ships already in-game? I personally feel like the Atlanta would fit better into the game and also kinda the theme of the USN ships right now being AA monsters (besides the crap Omahas of course)

TIL Brooklyn class cruiser USS Savannah's scout planes started a new phase of warfare in 1942 by successfully bombing some tank columns with their depth charges, whose fuses had been set to detonate on impact.

The scout planes, maintaining about eight hours of flight time daily, struck at other shore targets, and they also kept up antisubmarine patrols. Savannah's warplanes located an enemy battery that had been firing on the destroyer Dallas, and eliminated the battery with two well-placed depth charges.

This action aided Dallas in winning the Presidential Unit Citation for safely landing a U.S. Army Raider Battalion on the obstacle-strewn Wadi Sebou, just off the airport near Port Lyautey.

Both turret_152mm_mk16 and turret_127mm_mk19 were found. The former was used on Brooklyn/St.Louis/Cleveland/Fargo classes and, the latter, being a mount version of the 5"/25 guns, only exists on Brooklyn-class light cruisers. Other ships carrying the 5"/25 are CAs, BBs, and SS, which imo won't come anytime soon.

Speculation Wednesday! November 4th, 2015. Brooklyn-Class Light Cruisers.

Ahoy fellow Captains!

Welcome back to this week's Speculation Wednesday! Today I want to focus on one of my favorite class ships of the US Navy, the Brooklyn-Class Light Cruiser. I don't see this ship being implemented until the introduction of separate CL and CA lines for the US Navy.

After the London Naval Treaty of 1930, there was a world wide limit on heavy cruisers (ships with gun calibers between 6.1" and 8"). This was something that was not a favored outcome for many US Naval strategists. Due to the vast area of their Pacific ocean territories, they would have rather build numerous quantities of 8" gun cruisers instead. So a compromise in design was made with these treaty cruisers that would still allow for a capable ship that was armed with 6" guns. Thus, the 5 turreted Brooklyn-Class Light Cruiser was born. I have a strong feeling that she was heavily influenced by the recently completed IJN Mogami armed in a similar fashion with 5x3 6" turrets which was also scaled down due to the London Naval Treaty. Her guns were capable of firing between 8-10 rounds per minute per barrel. You think the Cleveland is scary? This thing would pump out tons of dps if they gave her the accurate reload these guns are capable of.

Her hull design is quite special in the development of US Naval cruiser and carrier design throughout WWII. Her hull was the basis for the following classes. St. Louis-Class CL, Cleveland-Class CL, Fargo-Class CL, Baltimore-Class CA, Wichita-Class CA, Oregon City-Class CA, Des Monies-Class CA, Independence-Class CVL and Saipan-Class CVL just to name a few were all derived from the original Brooklyn-Class hull design.

Her secondary armament is light in her first design of only 8x5" guns and 8 50 cal's. She was planned to have a heavier AA suite installed with both dual and quad 40mm mounts, but they were not completely implemented. This is one possible hull refit I see for this ship, the other could technically by the St. Louis-Class design, which was just the same ship with updated machinery and the ubiquitous 4x2 5"/38cal AA gun layout (The St. Louis-Class was actually the first ship to be designed to have this specific gun) The USS Savannah (Brooklyn-Class) was actually rebuilt after being hit by a kamikaze attack to match the St. Louis-Class's layout of 4x2 5"/38cal. Her armor was typical of most light cruisers with 6" belt and a 2" deck armor. I suspect she will have a bigger citadel that the current Cleveland-Clas
