I've just finished "Conquistador" by Buddy Levy.
I was educated in the Commonwealth, so we spent absolutely no time on the Spanish/Aztec conflict at school. Our history learning was quite narrowly confined and certainly told a rather one-sided version of that which we did cover. Things have moved on since I was at school, but that's the context.
"Conquistador" has been a good and engaging introduction to a plethora of wider issues about which I'll do much more specific reading. I don't regard it to be the most scholarly or academic account of what occurred, but it has certainly given me a foundational interest in the subject matters. It also drew on accounts from both sides of the conflict where feasible to highlight both where the narratives matched, and where they diverged (e.g., how Montezuma met his fate).
My wife was educated in continental Europe and has a deep understanding of the Borgias both through study and the context of the religion element, and again, the Commonwealth education system did not touch on them at all.
I immensely enjoyed Levy's storytelling, narrative prose style in covering the relevant three years in "Conquistador".
What if any text might historians, professional, amateur, or otherwise, suggest as a first step into the Borgias which is executed in a similar way to "Conquistador" by Buddy Levy?
Hello,
I know this might be a long shot but does anyone have a coin from the 1492 to the 1503 period from the Pope Alexander the VI era? Something like this
http://www.papalartifacts.com/portfolio-item/silver-coin-from-the-pontificate-of-alexander-vi/
I wanted to create a necklace using the coin as a pendent for my wife. She loves history and this is one of her favorite periods of history.
Thanks in advance.
I know that both families were prominent at around the same time, and both eventually had members of there families serve as pope. So, I was wondering if the two families ever interacted with one and other or if they both largely ignored each other.
Looking for a properly researched and nuanced but non-too-whitewashing account on Cesare Borgia, aka The Terror of Italy in the Renaissance. Anything to differentiate the man from the evil caricature; I'm open to any recommendations.

Extra, Extra! Read (or listen for your illiterate peasantry) all about it! The Lord-Duke is raising Troops for the Year of Our Lord 1505! May God protect us from the wickedness and snares of the devil!
Just finished Spartacus and it was outstanding. Searching for something with action, emotions and intrigue like in these: Vikings, GoT, Black Sails, The Musketeers, Turn Washington's Spies, The Last Kingdom, Boardwalk Empire. Thanks.

Psalm 127:3 Children are a gift from the Lord; they are a reward from him.
Rejoice and praise be! In the arms of a duchess cries a new soul brought into this world in the year of our Lord one-thousand five-hundred.
Swaddled in white, the baby girl was a star of light in a sea of red. The labor was long and arduous, and Duchess Charlotte dβAlbret Borgia encountered adversity and despair. But triumph she did; by Godβs grace and the womanβs mettle, this infant knew life. As its father waged war and wrought death in Italy, this corner of southwestern France embraced birth and life this spring season.
Her husband would be delighted at the news, and and a new calling of motherhood swept Charlotte like a torrentβher first child... Love which she never knew she had came pouring out.
There remained but the simple matter of a name. A name for the heiress of Valentinois, and should Cesareβs ambitions be fulfilled, a home in Italy. She had a suspicion of what her Lord Husband might desire...

βLouise. Her name shall be Louise,β the Duke announced to himself. Before him assembled an army of Italians, Spanish, Swiss, and of course Frenchmen. His patience had been wearing thin with this league of traitors, and his captains could detect his ire growing each day. But never before had he felt nerves. Cesare had always imposed his will confidently and without trepidation. Until now.
The birth of a legitimate child meant much more than just a baby girl. Cesare had been a Cardinal but two years ago. He had renounced an inheritance. Now, the fruit his wife bore suggested otherwise. He was a Duke. He had a child. He was a French Duke, with a French wife and a child who would be reared French.
It all crashed upon him now. He felt vulnerableβhuman, his confidence uprooted. As his army gathered against the Duke of Urbino, he retched. The bile spilled from his mouth, pooling at his feet in the Malatesta palace. In the coming days, he would command his first field battle. He could die, leave his wife and newborn alone, and perhaps worst of all, erase his legacy and the toils of his father.
The war drums sounded. A rumbling of hooves and boots drew his mind away. The French marched into the city, and with them King Louis, the namesake of his firstborn. Cesare Borgia wiped the spittle from his mouth. The mask came up. He was not human. He could not be human. No, I am Il Valentino, and I cannot be human.
**TLDR: Cesare Borgiaβs dau

Cesena
Having stopped in seemingly the only loyal Romagnan city to resupply his troops, Cesare waited. Cesena was a nice town. He greatly appreciated their loyalty to Godβs One, Holy, Catholic, and Apostolic church. Thatβs much more than he could say about other citiesβ¦ Oh well, theyβll learn. Cesare will be their teacher in the field of basic manners, as will:
2000 Condottieri
2000 Mercenary Pikemen
500 Mercenary Swordsmen
500 Mercenary Crossbow
200 Mercenary Cavalry
8 Field Artillery
8 Light Artillery
Together, these new men funded from the overflowing Papal coffers will ensure there is no tomfoolery about. Thanks Holy Father! However, as the year goes on and more land is accumulated under Cesareβs angelic wings, more troops will most likely be raised. Cesare usually has servants to do it for him, but this time, heβs the one taking out the chamberpot.
Rumors abound that the Malatesta boy in Rimini was whipping himself and fainting all over the place in the town square. Weird kink but if thatβs what youβre into, by all means dude. These petty lords have been playing kingdom and castle for far too long. Thereβs a new sheriff in town and he is a handsome and brilliant Valencian doing Godβs will on earth.
I'm currently in the sequence 6 of AC Brotherhood and I can't understand how Cesare don't know about the Borgia tower's destruction and the rebuilding of Roma.
We have attacked his castle, so he normally know that Ezio is in Roma by his "wife" but he did not seem to react to it etheir???
I don't think he needs an introduction, one of the most controversial popes in history has had a duality to his existence in history, on the one hand the church itself praised him for his strict doctrine but the masses hated that he was far from holy or a representative of god. Due to this duel nature as a servant he is two faced, both being a force for good and service to humanity, but also being a vile creature that looks out for his own interests.

I also heard that he wrote letters to her saying that he would return to power, but I never found the letters. Are those letters in game?
