Is Erdogan trying to put Turkey back on a gold (or bimetallic) standard?

Reading news this morning that he refuses to raise interest rates and is thus tanking the Turkish lira my first thought was to look up their pm reserves. Couldn’t find anything on silver, but Turkeys gold reserve is the highest it’s be in recent history.

Erdogan has a history of strong arming his central bank, so you think it’s possible that his aim is to rid his country of central bank control like Egypt tried and failed and go back to a metallic standard for the lira.

Also Turkish imports of gold are on the uptick.

New bimetallic thermostat issues

Each room in our condo has thermostat control to an in-wall heater. Each tstat is the simple bimetallic kind. All seem to be working well besides the bedroom.

The one in the bedroom will not engage unless I set it way above the desired temp. For example, I'll have to dial it up to 80, then roll it back to 72.

If I keep the dial set to 72, it doesn't ever really seem to engage.

This is a relatively new tstat that was installed last summer.

I'm wondering if there is a simple fix I could do myself.

All Metal Hotend or Bimetallic Heat Break?

I'm looking to print higher temp materials with my CR6, and am trying to decide between going with the all metal hotend from Micro Swiss or just a bimetallic heat break like Slice Engineering's Copperhead

The cost difference isn't really a factor, I'm more interested in opinions on ease of install and overall performance of one solution vs the other.

Also, does anyone know which (if any) form factor of the Copperhead fits the CR6?

Flexibles in the BIQU H2 Extruder With the Bimetallic Heat Break

Anyone that regularly prints flexibles with their H2s, are you running the stock PTFE lined heat breaks?

I keep trying and failing to print even 95A shore hardness TPU in my H2 with a bimetallic heat break.

Then I moved the spool to my other printer, also running an H2, that has the stock PTFE lined heat break and have not had a single jam yet. I am running the BIQU made bimetallic heat break in the one that keeps jamming.

Does the all metal just have too much friction in the break? Is there another brand of heat break that will fit the H2 that performs better? I got mine directly from the BTT/BIQU website.

Integration of Bimetallic Electronic Synergy with Oxide Site Isolation Improves the Selective Hydrogenation of Acetylene

A Ga2O3 coating of Ag@Pd core–shell bimetallic nanoparticle catalyst improves the ethylene selectivity compared with a coated Pd monometallic catalyst. The intrinsic activity is preserved and is approximately 50 times higher than the benchmark Pd1Ag single-atom alloy catalysts.

Abstract

Semi-hydrogenation of acetylene to ethylene is an important process to purify ethylene streams in industry. However, among current approaches reported in the literature, high ethylene selectivity has been generally achieved at the expense of activity. Herein, we show that a Ga2O3 coating of Ag@Pd core–shell bimetallic nanoparticle catalysts, allows improvement of the ethylene selectivity to a much greater extent than the coating of monometallic Pd nanoparticles, while preserving a remarkable intrinsic activity, approximately 50 times higher than the benchmark catalyst of Pd1Ag single-atom alloys (SAAs). Importantly, the resulting catalyst also shows excellent long-term stability, by suppressing coke formation efficiently. Spectroscopic characterization reveals that weakened ethylene adsorption by bimetallic electronic synergy, and oxide site isolation are both essential for the high ethylene selectivity and high-coking resistance. H-D exchange measurements further show that the Ga2O3-coated Ag@Pd catalyst possesses a much higher activity of H2 activation than that of Pd1Ag SAAs, thus boosting the hydrogenation activity at the same time.

Total Structure of Bimetallic Coreshell [Au42Cd40(SR)52]2‐ Nanocluster and Its Implications

Bimetallic coreshell nanostructures hold great promise in elucidating the bimetallic synergism. However, it remains a challenge to construct atomically precise core-shell with high-valence active metals on the gold surface. In this work, we report the total structure of a [Au42Cd40(SR)52]2- coreshell nanocluster and multiple implications. Single crystal X-ray diffraction (SCXRD) reveals that the structure possesses a two-shelled Au6@Au36 core and a closed cadmium shell of Cd40, and the coreshell structure is then protected by 52 thiolate (-SR) ligands. The composition of the nanocluster is further confirmed by electrospray ionization mass spectrometry (ESI-MS). A catalytic test for styrene oxidation and a comparison with relevant nanoclusters reveal the surface effect on the catalytic activity and selectivity.

A Bimetallic Metal–Organic Framework Encapsulated with DNAzyme for Intracellular Drug Synthesis and Self‐Sufficient Gene Therapy

A synergetic therapy nanoplatform was developed by encapsulating the therapeutic DNAzyme into Cu/Zn bimetallic MOF for intracellular drug synthesis and self‐sufficient gene therapy. This design can not only ably avoids the side effects of traditional chemotherapy, but also effectively inhibit tumor metastasis by cleaving the oncogene substrate.

Abstract

Although chemotherapy is one of the most widely used cancer treatments, there are serious side effects, drug resistance, and secondary metastasis. To address these problems, herein we designed a bimetallic metal–organic framework (MOF) encapsulated with DNAzyme for co‐triggered in situ cancer drug synthesis and DNAzyme‐based gene therapy. Once in cancer cells, MOFs would disassemble and liberate copper ions, zinc ions, and DNAzyme under the acidic environment of lysosomes. Copper ions can catalyze the synthesis of the chemotherapeutic drug through copper‐catalyzed azide–alkyne cycloaddition (CuAAC) reaction after being reduced to CuI; zinc ions act as the cofactor to activate the cleavage activity of DNAzyme. The anticancer drug is synthesized intracellularly and can kill cancer cells on site to minimize side effects to normal organisms. The activated DNAzyme starts gene therapy to inhibit tumor proliferation and metastasis by targeting and cleaving oncogene substrates.

Engineering Bi‐Sn Interface in Bimetallic Aerogel with 3D Porous Structure for Highly Selective Electrocatalytic CO2 Reduction to HCOOH

Electrochemical reduction of CO 2 (CO 2 RR) into valuable hydrocarbons is appealing in alleviating the excessive CO 2 level. Herein, we present the very first utilization of metallic Bi‐Sn aerogel for CO 2 RR with selective HCOOH production. Non‐precious bimetallic aerogel of BiSn is readily prepared at ambient temperature which exhibits 3D morphology with interconnected channels, abundant interfaces and hydrophilic surface. Superior to Bi and Sn, the BiSn aerogel exposes more active sites and favorable mass transfer property and then endowing its high value of FE HCOOH with 93.9%. Moreover, the BiSn aerogel achieves FE HCOOH around 90% and maintained well for 10 h in a flow battery, indicating its potential applications in practical surrounding. In‐situ ATR‐FTIR measurement confirmed the formation of *HCOO is the rate‐determining step toward formic acid generation. As a further evidence, DFT demonstrated the coexistence of Bi and Sn optimized the energy barrier for the production of HCOOH, and then yielding the improved catalytic activity.

Rhodium‐electrocatalyzed C−H oxygenations of amides and ketones proved viable under mild conditions via bimetallic electrocatalysis. Mechanistic studies revealed a high‐valent dimeric rhodium electrocatalysis.

Abstract

Rhodium‐electrocatalyzed arene C−H oxygenation by weakly O‐coordinating amides and ketones have been established by bimetallic electrocatalysis. Likewise, diverse dihydrooxazinones were selectively accessed by the judicious choice of current, enabling twofold C−H functionalization. Detailed mechanistic studies by experiment, mass spectroscopy and cyclovoltammetric analysis provided support for an unprecedented electrooxidation‐induced C−H activation by a bimetallic rhodium catalysis manifold.

Engineering Bismuth–Tin Interface in Bimetallic Aerogel with a 3D Porous Structure for Highly Selective Electrocatalytic CO2 Reduction to HCOOH

Bismuth–Tin aerogel was prepared at ambient temperature, resulting in a three‐dimensional porous nanostructure with abundant pores. The material presents excellent electrocatalytic activity and stability for formic acid generation with a high Faradaic efficiency (93.9 %) and partial current density of 9.3 mA cm−2 at −1.0 V vs. RHE.
