I found a cob and it's a Philip IV 8 reale (or so it's listed as). Not only does it look beautifully real, but it's from a reliable source, with guaranteed refunds. I need help with assayer marks though. It's an "R" and is said to be minted in Seville Spain. I've tried to Google quite a bit, anyone know something about the R?

My grandfather passed away in 2003. My grandmother passed in October, and it was up to my mother to go through her effects.

My grandfather's magnificent rolltop desk had to be disassembled for moving. In the many hidden pockets and drawers, my mother found lovely fountain and ballpoint pens, pins from various countries, and this pocket watch. Just the watch, no chain.

Since the desk was bought second hand (sometime in the seventies), it is entirely possible that he never knew the watch was there. The desk is approximately 100 years old.

The watch has been repaired and keeps perfect time now. The maker was C. Pierce in Bournemouth, UK, date unknown. There are precious stones inside to help lessen friction and maintain accuracy.

I'm not particularly concerned about what it might be worth on ebay or an antique auction site, as it's a family heirloom, but just a little more info on when it was made and how highly regarded it and its manufacturer were back in the day would be greatly appreciated. I think I'll just keep it close and call it My Precious for the rest of my life.

Fun fact: there is a watch shop presently occupying the former offices of C. Pierce in Bournemouth.

Merry Christmas all! I received a gold bar from my parents for Christmas.

It has logos of the following engraved on it: Argor Heraus SA, Meltzer Assayer, and Wang Ding R.O.C. It also has the following markings: Switzerland 5 taels 999.9. I weighed it on a coffee scale and comes out to around 188 grams.
