A list of puns related to "Arkham Asylum"
The Batman mythos is weird to me. Parts of it are fascinating, and I once did my own personal AU story (which I've thought of revisiting) where I basically told the story in a way closer to my preferences.
So its like... I like some ideas, but I hate how other aspects have evolved over time.
A big problem I have is, in modern takes on Batman, the whole shebang seems kind of pointless.
A part of the problem is... Arkham Asylum.
While this post has the Comics flair, I actually first noticed this with the 1990s Animated Series. If you re-watch Mad Hatter's introductory episode, he's... not really evil, just a loser who let his conflicting emotions lead him down a bad path.
A few episodes later he's saying he would gladly have killed the girl he had a crush on. Which he clearly would not have.
To be honest, one issue I have with a lot of superhero media (whether cartoons, comics, etc.) is that no matter how much nuance or depth someone starts with or is implied to have, they'll always be reduced to a standard "mwahaha" type whose only motivation is wanting revenge on the superhero who ruined their plans. Something like this happens in Superman's Animated Series (the 1990s one) with The Parasite in his introductory episode: the whole reason he gets his powers is because he rescued someone... but then after that, he's pure evil. Then there's Metallo, who is introduced and by the end of his episode, specifically has a grudge against Lex Luthor... but in every subsequent appearance, he's just a guy who hates Superman, and his beef against Lex is never even mentioned again.
But okay, back to Batman:
what always annoys me is when fans say "but see, that makes perfect sense! They go to Arkham and that makes them even crazier!"
First of all, I find this explanation just too convenient. It's basically a written-in "get out of jail free" card on sloppy characterization. You might as well say "oh, the entrance to their cells has this magic laser beam which changes people's personalities when they walk through."
But second... just because something is explained, doesn't make it suddenly okay. The problem isn't the explanation, the problem is....
Third.... It's BORING. A lot of these characters could've been interesting, could've had depth or intrigue, but instead most of Batman's villains are basically the same guy just with a different gimmick.
And there's a fourth thing, because four is death:
Arkham Asylum is unfortunately one of those things

I gave up not too far after an hour or so in game, and didn't touch it for another year. Recently however, I decided to give it another shot, and good god am I glad I did.
You'll most likely have heard of that joke that Spiderman on PS4 makes you feel like Spiderman. Well, what that game did to Spidey, this game does to Bats.
The combat is smooth and flows like water, making you feel like a martial arts expert and a detective who can think on the spot and use the enemy's movements to his advantage. The use of detective mode to show you the biggest things such as breakable walls and hard-to-reach vents, as well as the small details such as an NPCs heartbeat and mental state (I loved that btw, it was such a small detail but it was hella immersive) was so well done. Mark Hamill's phenomenal performance as the Joker kept a smile on my face. The way the environment subtly hints at you where to go next and what path might be accessible without ever being too handhold-y was brilliant too. The atmosphere was spot on, grimy and murky and dark, and I felt dirty just looking at some of the visuals. The characters all look amazing as well, particularly Scarecrow who I think is visually my favourite character/villain in the game, and his fear gas stealth segments were both intense and fun as hell. >!(The fake crash sequence I knew was coming, but not when, tho it actually did catch me off guard, and was a nice 4th wall break and a poke at the player's worst fear in this case being losing all their progress)!<
Riddler himself deserves an entire paragraph of praise on his own; this was the most well thought out way of implementing a scavenger hunt/collectibles I have ever seen. The fact that there are so many different challenges such as thinking outside the box to photograph a specific object, checking in secret spots for the Arkham sigils, smashing all of the wind-up teeth, fiddling around with perspective to piece together the hidden question mark, was a delight and genuinely felt like I was participating in one of Riddler's deadly games. And finding out the patients' backstories and personalities through the interview tapes was a joy to both find and listen to.
His voice acting was amazing too, a fresh change of style and presentation, as a sophisticated gentleman who seems equa

Iโm finally getting into Batman comics, and Iโd like to know your opinions on this book particularly. I know itโs a good book according to my research and from what Iโve heard, but Iโd like to know your person opinion!
Ps. Iโve read most of the popular stuff and plenty of my own collection so I already have a decent introduction to Batman comics, so Iโd like to know your opinion on this book in general, not as a starter to Batman comics.
Should I 100 percent it before I move onto city?
The story so far is very exciting,
Batman and Catwoman's combat moves are the best that I've ever seen in a superhero video game,
A bigger map with more buildings to use for movement and more air time meaning more gliding,
I'm terribly thrilled and somewhat scared for the rest of the story...
[No spoilers please]
I've always felt that it had WAY too much to be rated teen ever since I played it when I was around 10 years old. But after finishing it now over 10 years later again I can safely say that THIS IS NOT A RATED TEEN GAME. The titan enemies have bones sticking out of them with The Joker being the absolute worst with his exposed ribcage and mutated spine.
Now you might say "Yeah whatever, it's still fine to be rated teen" and I might agree with you, but here's the thing: I'm now hunting Riddler stuff and I go to the Medical Facility. There are chopped off body parts in containers, including multiple DECAPITATED HEADS. Like how the actual f*** did they get away with a rated teen for this game???
I have a spare steam key for Arkham Asylum GotY edition available. Post a comment here with your favourite Batman villain and I will pick a random winner tomorrow morning (GMT).
Good luck all!
Edit - Draw closed and the winner has been PMโd the key.
I have just finished Arkham Origins and going to start Arkham Asylum, I played the first hour of Arkham Asylum but the start confused me when Batman was driving Joker to Arkham and also seeing Harley Quinn as Harley Quinn and not as Harleen Quinzel, so I am thinking something happened between Arkham Origins and Arkham Asylum
Insanity is a legal term meaning someone committed crime without knowing what theyโre doing is wrong. Joker knows heโs doing something wrong as do most Batman villains. Just having a vendetta or general hatred toward humanity or getting your kicks from hurting people doesnโt qualify you as insane. There are lots if criminals in jail like that. So why do these criminals go to Arkham Asylum?

Dude arkham knight is so good. Like SUCH A GOOD GAME. Top 10 for sure. Is IT worth to go back to The previous 2 to play them? Thanks.
Ok so I can afford only one, I've heard city is better but it's the sequel so it better that I buy Asylum instead? Can I play city without having played Asylum? I've heard great things about the Arkham games and I really wanna give them a shot but unfortunately I can only afford one.
Also keep in mind I've never played any of the games before so if one of them is particularly hard it's good to know. I also can't afford Arkham Knight so please don't suggest I just buy that. Thank you !
