[new listener] Most rock-oriented albums

Hi. As the title says, I'm quite new to the band and have only thoroughly listened the first album. Songs like The Trial, Passage in Time or Fortune seem to be quite rock-band oriented, but for the rest of DCD's albums -although I've shallowly listened- seemed to have less drums, distorted guitars or bass. They do seem to preserve this gothic and dark mood overall, though. So I was wondering if there are there other albums that contain songs like the mentioned before or has the band completely shifted to a more orchestral sound. Thank you!

Could TS7 be a rock-oriented album? [some tour spoilers]

My guess is: TOTALLY.

During the 1989 Tour she already started incorporating rock elements with the performances of IKYWT and WANEGBT, which were insane tbh.

Then reputation brought a very cool rock vibe with IDSB and DBM (also that industrial beat in RFI, which I really dig). Then tour started and it became very clear to me that she strived to incorporate and embrace the rock n' roll vibe of the first "part" of the album. The one that screams "I DON'T REALLY CARE ABOUT MY REPUTATION", namely:

  • RFI, with the DUM DUM beat during the second verse
  • IDSB holy lord
  • LWYMMD with the really cool guitar solo in the intro, and heavy guitars during pre-chorus
  • Don't Blame Me, with a DROP DEAP AMAZING guitar solo after that* high note
  • Bad Blood/Should've Said No, also awesome guitars and the classic rock beat, which was again repeated in
  • WANEGBT

Personally I would LOVE for Taylor to put out a more rock-influenced album. I love when she experiments with new sounds, and I am a huge fan of rock music.

The thing is, I think her albums usually reflect what she is going through in her life, and personally, I couldn't see her chanelling this angsty rock side on a new album considering that she appears to be the most "at peace" now and going through a really "soft" moment in her life. Which is awesome, don't get me wrong! It would just be really cool to see where she could go with this! Rock music could definitely use a pick me up at the moment.

AM7 being more rock oriented?

https://youtu.be/aOLH5cx87sI (around 17:35)

These guys are discussing the 2022 R&L lineup and when they get to AM one of them talks about how he knows from an inside source that AM didn’t play R&L in 2018 because TBHC wouldn’t fit the alt-rock R&L sound. Since they’re headlining this year would that mean a more guitar oriented sound? What do you guys think? I personally don’t see any reason why he would lie about this since tons of people want to see AM anyway so this isn’t him like promoting the band (one of the biggest rock bands in the world anyway,) but I’m an American who is not too familiar with the UK alt festival scene apart from the big ones like Glasto, and R&L.

Dreamcatcher are at their best when they are NOT making their Rock oriented sound.

[Repost cause I forgot to add a poll lmao my bad, I don't usually post stuff so I'm not 100% familiar with this lol]

Personally, my favorite Dreamcatcher songs are those where they experiment (Well, by K-Pop standards at least) with other sounds they don't usually do (Alldaylong, BOCA, Sleepwalking, Don't Light My Fire), because to me, a lot of their K-Pop + Rock oriented songs mostly sound like a watered down version of Alternative/Anti Idol groups from Japan, or just straight up J-Rock.

Of course there are some exceptions, "Odd Eye", "Sahara" and "BEcause" are all bangers, and I'm not saying the rest of their stuff is bad, it's just not as great or original as a lot of people think, at least for me.

I think this is unopular because a lot of people praise them for sounding "different" from their contemporaries and put them on a pedestal because of that, for some reason?

Possibly the best guitar-oriented album, imo: "Submarine" by Greg Bissonette. 11 songs. 11 guest guitar players: Vai, Satriani, Stevens, Robben Ford, Doug Bossi, Frank Gambale and more. Each song is a different musical style, from acid jazz to hard rock and everything in between.

Here's a taste, a sort of Latin/Cuban tune with an absolutely monstrous guitar solo. No Hay Parqueo

I'm (potentially) recording a rock/jazz/metal oriented Earthbound album, and would love this subreddit's input and ideas!

Hey r/Earthbound,

Perhaps a year ago and even recently I shared my Earthbound Medley with you guys, to great reception. I compiled a few tracks, the Title Screen/Demo, Twoson, the Store theme, Fourside, Summers, Dalaam, and Pokey Means Business.

However, I think that with enough work on my production value and with some strong rearrangement, I would love to hop on the rearranging train (similar to OC Remix of course) and bring this amazing niche game's soundtrack to light with a full, 15-20 track album. I'd aim to make the songs, especially town and battle themes, around 3-4 minutes, and I'd cross every genre I feel would fit. That includes rock, blues, jazz, heavy metal, acoustic, and everything in between. I would give half the album for free, and the full for the standard $10 (Loudr most likely). That way people who figure I'm selling mediocre music will have a chance to check it anyway.

My question to you all is: Would you download/buy an album, 15-20 tracks rearranged and given a contemporary rock treatment? Also, which tracks would you say HAVE to be on it, and what are your ideas? Your support is appreciated!

Looking for a Rock Oriented Open Mic/Jam

I'm a drummer and in St Louis, the choice of open mic seems limited to either blues, jazz, or singer-songwriter. What I would love is a rock oriented open mic where musicians could come to jam out. Like, I love the blues, but it would be fun to play some grunge or metal or classic rock without the pressure of an actual show.

Any one know of such a thing, or am I grasping at straws?

Any chance of their next album being more rock/guitar orientated?

I’ve noticed (and I think Ed may have mentioned it) that Radiohead tend to go through cycles of containing more or less guitar in their albums, for example:

  1. PH, The Bends, OK Computer = more guitar
  2. Kid A, Amnesiac = less guitar
  3. HTTT, In Rainbows = more guitar
  4. TKOL, AMSP = less guitar

Do you think it’s possible then that the next album will be more guitar focused? Because as much as I really love their last two albums, I’d love a return to a more rocky Radiohead. An album in a similar style to HTTT would be my dream.

Do you tell people AOR is Adult-oriented Rock or Album-oriented Rock?

I mean I think technically Adult is the genre while Album is the radio format, but I've always described AOR as Album-oriented. I think it describes it better: Artists focus on the whole album rather than just a few hits.
Adult just sounds like we are trying to create some exclusive club and you certainly don't have to be an adult to enjoy AOR. What do you guys think?

July balance wishlist: Addressing Graveyard's randomness and Rock-Paper-Scissors. Ladder-oriented reworks and more!

Heya! The second quarter of 2021 is closing in and we've had time to digest the meta. This is my wishlist for July. With quarterly balance changes, I included more and bolder suggestions. Sorry they aren't as easy to digest. I also wanted to point out improvements to some long-standing problems.

My most important points are in bold italic (as a sort of tl;dr). Please read my full reasoning before discussing a particular idea! I love these discussions and nowadays I have them far less often than before, so I hope they are good this time!

Here's a rundown of nerfs I considered but chose not to: Electro Giant, Heal Spirit, Miner, Mega Minion, Goblin Cage, Fisherman, Bomber, Fireball. Ask me in the comments.

Reworks

Graveyard RNG removed:

  • Initial spawn speed brought back to 2sec. 16 skeletons spawn in total (from 15)
  • The spawn locations are fixed at 4.5 distance from the center (from 4-5) and may only be displaced if a building occupies them
  • The order is also fixed but it flips based on which lane the spell is played on
  • Visualization I made

>What I believe to be the most important change in this wishlist. I really don't think I need to justify this one. These changes completely remove RNG and I find them chaotic enough to keep the old spirit of Graveyard. If it makes the card too strong or too weak, there are other stats that can be tinkered with, but I think only bumping up the skeleton count by one is fair.
>
>Graveyard RNG is relevant. Focus not on the bad placement here, but that a different RNG would have completely changed the outcome.

Wizard rework/buff:

  • Cost reduced to 4
  • Range reduced 5.5 > 5
  • Hitspeed slower 1.4sec > 1.7sec
  • Initial Attack slower 0.4sec > 0.7sec
  • Damage -6% (234 > 220)

>GC 3d stats over the last 2 months: Usage 2-4%, Win 15-24%
>
>5k ladder usage: 36% | 7k ladder usage: 2%
>
>Wizard should be buffed, but he is already the most used card in the game in some parts of ladder and a buff wouldn't help. I've suggested reworks like this many times already, but I think it's just so important. This is a medium-risk rework with an immensely high reward. The changes reduce
