A list of puns related to "Airfield Traffic Pattern"
I've been practicing my pattern landings and I'm looking for suggestions on some new airports to fly to help keep things interesting.
I'd like to find some small-medium-sized regional non-commercial airports that come with default FSX (no addons for now) that have a picture of the flight pattern available if possible, for example from a website, so I can see what the pattern should look like as compared to real world landmarks, roads etc. At least, I'd like to find real world GA airports where it's easy to find landmarks to help gauge on google maps when I'm e.g. 1/2 mile out, 1 mile out, etc..
For example, the airport for the Oshkosh air show has a diagram of holding patterns https://www.eaa.org/en/airventure/eaa-fly-in-flying-to-oshkosh/oshkosh-air-traffic-control/visual-flight-rules-hints-and-tips/~/link.aspx?_id=CADEFE4FB61546549520D90A5F9E8366&_z=z but I haven't found a diagram for an actual airfield traffic pattern.
http://www.airnav.com/airport/kosh doesn't really have any diagrams like that either, it just says "left traffic" for the pattern
Are there any non-commercial real world airports, that also exist in FSX by default, that you know of that have diagrams for their actual airfield traffic pattern that I can look at such as on their website? So far I havent't found any.
Bonus points for:
Also, worthy mention if you want to just shout out your favorite or local GA airport.
Anyone else finding the left turns from Dessau and Immanuel onto Pecan St. hella confusing borderline dangerous? Is it even completed????
Edit: itβs not Immanuel onto pecan itβs the HEB center (between Dessau and Immanuel) onto pecan street
Has anyone else had a fucking terrible time getting to PNC this season? I'm coming from Chapel Hill, so west of the arena. Pretty much every game has looked like this for me:
1.leave at 6PM for 7pm game
traffic is moving at a pretty OK clip until you get to Wade Avenue
Make it onto Wade Avenue and get to the Trinity exit ~6:45PM
For some fucking reason, every single time, the cops shut down Trinity. They don't post a single message board. They just block the road with 2 cop cars. As a result, every single person trying to get to the game sits in the exit lane for like 15 minutes before realizing they CANNOT exit and going up to Blue Ridge.
Up at blue ridge.. complete lack of signage resulting in absolute mayhem.
SOMETIMES they are using two turn lanes to funnel people from Blue Ridge onto whatever that service road that runs to the arena; sometimes they are only using one.
Again, complete and utter lack of signage; apparently permitted cars are supposed to be in the right lane and unpermitted cars in the left, to park out by the wolfpack football facility. But again.. no signage, so what really happens is there is one big ass line that is getting hand-filtered by guys with scanners
Legitimately the only way I am able to get my butt in my seat by game time is to aim to be at the arena a full hour early, because the traffic pattern for parking is just such a clusterfuck. The last game I went to it took a full 40 minutes from the time I passed Trinity to get to my seat.
Is there some alternate route into the arena or something? This just complete lack of organization makes trying to use the usual routes, that used to be pretty well maintained, an absolute fucking nightmare. I just cannot comprehend why they keep shutting Trinity down...
I am trying to do this paper about how shitty traffic patterns are here and I was trying to get some more ideas to build off of.
Some time ago there was a post about what the rationale was regarding the change to the traffic pattern at E.3rd & Swain by campus, as well as whether or not it was permanent.
This article addresses those questions and includes comment from the city engineer.
Key takeaways: it is planned as a permanent change to the traffic pattern, not a pilot program or work zone change. The main focus was reducing accidents/wrong way drivers coming from Swain.

I mod r/UnearthedArcana, and a lot of people have been reaching out to me noticing that we don't have as many posts going as high in votes as they used to over the last 6 weeks or so.
I did some digging into the traffic stats, and we were averaging about 4k unique viewers a day on Mobile Web a day, with about 10k pageview total from them for a good long while. Then over the course of 9 days from Nov 1st, to Nov 9th, it just tanks to under 1.5k average Mobile Web users, and under 5k a day pageviews from Mobile Web, and it has stayed that way, with no corresponding increase in Mobile App/Desktop users, but our average pageviews seems to still be in the range it was before that. Like they all got logged out of the Mobile Web browser or something.
I saw a few other threads posting concerns about this same thing in several other subs at the exact same time, but not much was done or known.
Thoughts? I know I am not the only one that has noticed this.
context: Previously it's left lane left only, right lane forward and right turn.
Ever since they changed it to left lane left and forward, right lane right turn only, every time I going forward from left lane, some car on right lane will get in my way, angrily.
I don't blame them, their right lane aims perfectly towards that lane we're going to.
At this point I don't even know if I should follow the sign, or follow the people. This stupid new sign will probably sooner or later cause some minor accident, and for sure will ruin some good mood every day.
Box breathing: close your mouth throughout, breathe in through your nose for a 4 count, hold for 4, breathe out for 4. Repeat for at least a few minutes.
4 7 8: close your mouth throughout, breathe in through your nose for a 4 count, hold for 7, breathe out for 8. Repeat at least four times.
Another option is to focus on areas of your body that you carry stress like your shoulders or lower back and consciously relax those muscles. You can tense the muscles for 5 seconds and then release, if needed.
There are gifs available online that can visually assist these quick practices. You can do these anytime you are waiting, showering, or have a moment to focus.
They will lower your stress/anxiety levels, making you more likely to have a better experience afterwards. You are also less likely to take out your frustration on those around you (road rage, berating CS employees, etc), thus creating a much broader positive impact.
These techniques (and others) have been/are studied and used by Navy SEALs, medical doctors, psychologists, meditation practitioners, and others.
Hello I am interested in starting the route to obtain my PPL and have been doing some calculations on airport traffic patterns. I wanted to know if I was calculating this right. For my test calculation I used Airport SUS and Runway 26R. The conditions are as followed: Airport Elevation:463.2ft, Runway Elevation:836ft =1300ft for traffic pattern. And for the airplanes conditions itβs traveling at 100knots at 6,000ft, and will descent at a rate of 500ft per min. With these conditions I got the calculation of it taking approx. 9.4mins @ 100knots to to reach the traffic pattern and you will need approx 15.9 or 16 nautical miles to descend 500 miles per min at 6000ft to get to the traffic patter height of 1300ft?
Iβll wait for someone to prove me wrong ;)
I know this is a loaded and naive question, but I am hoping someone will be willing to help me out. We are only going to be able to visit one time before we move and are hoping to be able to use that trip to focus on specific areas and secure housing.
My partner and I are trying to figure out how far away would be reasonable to live, if one of us works near the LB Airport. Hoping to keep the average daily commute around (or less) than 30mins. Is Redondo Beach too far? Is San Pedro too far? Is Los Altos? We were looking at the geography and wondering if we should try and stay between the LA River and the 605?? Neither of us work in entertainment and are not concerned being near any of those hotspots.
Specifically I am wondering:
Is the main traffic rush to/from DTLA and Hollywood OR is it just lots of traffic, everywhere, at all times?
Is there any place that would provide a "reverse-commute" to LB if we live somewhere else?
We would also welcome any general advice about living near Long Beach if there are any 'must-do'/ 'try-to-avoid' things you'd be interested in mentioning. Thank you so much!
I recently uploaded a new trailer for my channel. It is me explaining what I do, nothing awesome and not optimised for search. For the last couple of days this video is crashing it! Traffic is coming from google search, but I don't know on what keywords people get directed to this video [the name of the video is "Greek food by ioannis" which is as broad a term as it can be] . Very strange. Any thoughts on what is causing this?
So - I made what I thought was a rather unusual radio call the other day. I was in a busy class D airspace and had just departed the x-wind runway. I had traffic following behind me as advised by tower. Flying along I spotted a cluster of about a half dozen mylar helium balloons traveling north to south as I was flying south to north. It was pretty sizable and if someone hit it, it "could" be a bad day for them. There is heavy jet traffic in this airspace as well as regular GA.
Knowing full well there wasn't a damn thing tower could do about the FOD much less advise anyone where it was at, I still felt compelled to reach out to tower to alert them of the situation given the level of traffic and the aircraft following me. I basically said "tower there is a grouping of mylar helium balloons traveling through the airspace north to south, my altitude and rough position." They confirmed and went on their way (again super busy airspace)
I have no problem with my decision to bring this to their attention, but I thought it was kind of amusing to have to report FOD in the air vs. the ground.
Any thoughts on what you would have done or done differently?
PITTSBURGH, PA (July 28, 2021) β The Department of Public Safety, in coordination with the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT), is announcing adjustments to traffic patterns in the busy South Side business corridor on weekend evenings.
As pandemic restrictions have eased, the increased volume of visitors to East Carson Street has created serious concerns such as increased gun violence, overcrowded sidewalks and streets, traffic safety obstacles, and noise complaints.
In response, the City of Pittsburgh Public Safety is implementing the following changes as a pilot project:
Between the hours of 7 p.m. until 4 a.m. on Fridays and Saturdays, vehicle traffic will be allowed OUTBOUND ONLY on E. Carson Street between S.10th and S.18th Streets.
Side streets from S.11th to S.17th inclusive will be closed to traffic. Vehicles will be diverted around those streets via either Muriel Street or Sarah Street. Only valid residential permit holders will be allowed to enter these areas
Only emergency vehicles and Port Authority buses will be allowed to travel in both directions on E. Carson
Ride-sharing services such as Uber and Lyft will not be permitted on East Carson Street between S.10th and S.18th Streets. Passengers must arrange pick-up and drop-off points in advance, utilizing one of the open side streets
Parking and deliveries will be prohibited on either side of E. Carson Street between 7 p.m. and 4 a.m.
Pittsburgh Bureau of Police officers will be posted in key areas to ensure the safe flow of traffic
During this pilot period, PennDOT is working closely with the City of Pittsburgh to halt overnight work in connection with its East Carson Street Improvement Project
These changes will be in place for the foreseeable future in an effort to mitigate gridlock, allow for a dedicated emergency vehicle corridor, and create a safer, more pleasant experience for residents and visitors to the South Side.
βPublic Safety recognizes that these traffic shifts will be an adjustment to those who live in or frequent the South Side. Our personnel will be working closely with businesses and community groups to ensure a seamless transition. We appreciate everyoneβs cooperation and patience during this time,β said Public Safety Director, Wendell Hissrich.
