I am back, another lurker who is just wanting some insight.
I have been flying for the last year and a half and have about 150 hours, but it has all been in a training environment. I am working to become a commercial pilot. Used to have dreams of the airlines but now I dont know. I love to fly. I was thinking of the guard/reserve lifestyle and have networked with some people at an aviation unit in St. Pete, Florida.
If any of you were flying GA before you started a career as a rotary pilot, do you feel like the training/flying you have experienced really made you a better pilot? Obviously more training makes you better, but I mean it in the sense of "I was Jerry, but now I'm a stud"

I'm just watching the Aviator again after many years and I'm flabberghasted by how Blanchett simply transforms into this different human being.
What is more impressive for me is that there's no "moment" in her portrayal. No great monologue exploding with anger or sadness or joy that you see in so many of the "Great Portrayals" that usually get noticed by the Oscars. There's just Katherine Hepburn. Happy, sad, quirky, angry, playfull Katherine Hepburn and her many interactions with Howard Hughes.
DiCaprio performance is of course fantastic, especially when we talk about expressing powerfull emotion, but when it comes to subtely embodying a character, making you forget that's an a person acting, Blanchett is just out of the world in the role.
Are my eyes just being opened to her? Is she like this in all her roles and I just never noticed?
