A list of puns related to "Zog (children's book)"
Dr. Zeus
Took down an old bookshelf when I was pregnant and packed away a ton of books. Recently realized I accidentally donated ALL of my children's classics, so I'm starting baby's library over from virtually nothing. What are your must read children's books? Nothing is off limits; new, old, classic, modern...we read a lot with our kids, and now that big brother wants to read to baby I need to do a massive restock of everything I donated and add some new favorites as well!
ETA: thank you so much for all the suggestions, the wholesome award, and upvotes!! I did not expect to get so much response, and while there's no way I could possibly respond to everyone, I've been reading and adding books to my list all day!

Hello all, and welcome to the 2021 Holiday MegaSale brought to you by Wraithmarked Creative, Mountaindale Press, Aethon Books, Shadow Alley Press, and Portal Books!
If you didn't know, this year we've turned the sale into a charity event to support St. Jude Children's Research Hospital!

AND:
That means every book you buy/pick up for free net's St. Jude at least $0.05 in donations! If we only do as well as last year, we are likely to raise over $10,000 USD for the Hospital!
For those of you who aren't familiar with the organization, St. Jude's mission statement reads as follows:
The mission ofΒ St. JudeΒ Childrenβs Research HospitalΒ is to advance cures, and means of prevention, for pediatric catastrophic diseasesΒ through research and treatment. Consistent with the vision of our founder Danny Thomas, no child is denied treatment based on race, religion or a family's ability to pay.
So, every book you pick up helps further R&D of pediatric disease prevention and treatment!
(If you'd like to donate directly, check it out here!)
Nothing excessive here, just a bit of information!
The Giver is an excellent book and yes, while I was introduced to it as a child and its perfectly acceptable book for kids to read, the messages and lessons in the book go far beyond that of a child or teenager will understand.
Looking back it is a profound book that should be read and understood as an adult.
It gives a much better way to question your reality and society and I find it to be much more thought provoking than major works such as 1984 or Animal Farm with regards to potentially dystopian societies.
I'm embarrassed to admit it's been so long since I've read a book right through front to back, but I did it and I'm so glad to have found this book.
I've recently been doing some work with childhood/intergenerational trauma, so I thought it was fantastic. So many light bulb moments.
If you have a strained relationship with your parents, and struggle with relationships and self esteem, I think this book offers some good insight.
I did find it initially a little discouraging seeing some of the traits the author discusses in myself, but it's given me alot to work with to better myself, as well as other relationships in my life.
I get it, you're the producer for the One Show and you need a cheap second guest because you can't just talk to Bill Oddie about woodpeckers all evening.
Well here's a perfect solution, David Walliams has written some kids book about a grandma on a motorbike or some shit... And he's willing to come on your show for FREE.
Fantastic! That should fill 5 minutes. He might even make a double entendre about Bill Oddie's pecker. It's rude, but just about acceptable for daytime TV.
But wait... there's a stipulation.
His agent says you have to repeatedly say that this book makes him the greatest British author of all time. Dickens, Shakespeare, and now welcome David Walliams to that list. "It's the greatest book ever David" lies Jermaine Jenas through gritted teeth.
Then David Walliams gives a smug smile, the same one he makes when he smells his own farts, and continues to believe he's the greatest author ever.
Ok so itβs βWhy am I afraid to tell you who I am and why am I afraid to loveβ by John Powellβ¦ and part of me wishes I never read this because what he says is very true and insightfulβ¦ but then how can I trust his judgement if THAT happened.. he later admitted after getting called out that he did it.. plus the school that he was doing it at protected him.
What are your thoughts? Has this ever happened to you before and what did you do about it ?
Hi.
I just finished: Roald Dahl - the witches Roald Dahl - Charlie and the chocolate factory Neil Gaiman - fortunately the milk
I love these books, and I love that they were illustrated.
What should i read next? I know that Roald has many other books.
TW: It describes stories from her patients that are like they're taken straight from this sub! Could be hard for some to read but really recommend it
I started reading this book and everything clicked. Why my parents/family act like they do; they're emotionally immature and have the emotional development / awareness of a child.
They think they are the main character and everyone else is supporting roles to help them achieve their goals & happiness. They're not the slightest concerned or want to understand how you feel because they think emotional labour is too much hard work and let everyone else do that work for them. They except their children to be understanding and parent them but won't do the same for their children because it's hard work and uncomfortable.
I saw some of these tendencies in myself aswell and now that I do I will make sure to not continue this intergenerational trauma. I don't have to forgive them but I understand that they don't know any better because they only understand physical need and not emotional. This understanding makes it hurt less. People have told me this before but I was so fixated on my parents being evil uncaring monsters and not extremly flawed humans, it doesn't excuse anything but it is an explanation. But do go NC & leave if their presence in your life is more hard work and heart ache, you don't owe them anything. You only owe yourself to live your best life
I really recommend everyone reading this if you resonate with anything I've said above. It took me 5 years from leaving my situation to realise this so if it helps anyone speed up that process I'm happy
Stay safe! You deserve happiness
I guess my title was vague so here we go again..
I read this book back in the 90s when I was 9ish and can only vaguely remember this book. It was about several siblings who traveled through time or through a magic portal. It was set in England or Australia. No, it wasnt Narnia. But it was similar. I believe it was published before the 70s.
ETA..the Phoenix and the carpet sounds the most similar in theme. Iβm reading it to see if itβs the one but Iβm not sure it is.
It is not: A wrinkle in time, The Phoenix and the carpet, Story of the amulet, 5 children and it, Magic treehouse, half magic, children of the lamp, drift house, dark is rising, bedknobs and broomsticks, the muselings, the secret of droon, elidor, the children of green knowe, secret world of og, in the keep of time, the secret country, whangdoodles, time warp trio, ship that flew, a stitch in time
I did not expect such abuse and cruelty to be written out so plainly. Even the death of Aunt Spiker and Aunt Sponge by literally crushing them was not on course with my expectations.
"There was a crunch. And then there was silence. The peach rolled on. And behind it, Aunt Sponge and Aunt Spiker lay ironed out upon the grass as flat and lifeless as a couple of paper dolls cut out of a picture book."
I'm thoroughly enjoying the book because of how unexpected each page is.
I love the Quilt maker's Gift, Stellaluna, Verdi, Officer Arbuckle and Gloria, Egg Drop, Dr. Seuss, etc.
Example: (This comes from a real book I have. I had to shake my head at the brainwashing. )
βWhen God Washed the Earthβ
Found in Genesis 6 when God said βI will destroy man whom I have created from the face of the earth, both man and beast, creeping thing and birds of the air, for I am sorry that I have made them.β ββGenesisβ¬ β6
