A list of puns related to "White croaker"
They arent very oily fish and dont have much else than vitamin D from what I see online. Could this count as white muscle meat?
I'm working on my first read-through of this series and I'm really enjoying it. I'm currently on Water Sleeps and I have a question.
Croaker and company seemed to learn Soulcatcher's true name near the end of "The White Rose" (One of the Senjak sisters).
So why didn't anyone try to use her true name against her when she showed up in the south?
I know I'm asking one of those, "Why didn't they just use the eagles to take the ring to Mt. Doom?" types of questions but I'm wondering if there is an in-universe reason that I've missed.
I loved the series, but I couldn't help but notice that the ending of Soldiers Lives makes almost all of their actions in the North, especially Croaker's, completely meaningless. In the first trilogy, it's all about defeating The Lady with the Dominator part also being important. The Lady is seen as evil and The White Rose with the help of The Black Company go on to defeat her and end her rule by stripping her of her powers. Yet at the end, Croaker just gives her her powers right back and it's stated she can go back and be the Lady if she chooses. So it essentially ends where it begins, with Lady being the most powerful being on the planet who is also immortal. If Croaker was going to do all that, what was the point of defeating her in the first place? The series essentially just ends where it started.
Hey, I just finished Soldiers live, maybe an hour ago or so. I wanted to drop off my general thoughts, sorry if it reads a bit chaotic. It's just to leave my impression on Cook's work here.
First of all, I enjoyed the series as a whole very much. I didn't read The Silver Spike yet. I am sorry, I know that it's supposed to be read after The White Rose. I will catch that up, as well as Port of Shadows.
Now, I thought that Cook's writing peaked in the Books of the South. Shadow Games and Dreams of Steel are IMO the best written books in the series, in terms of the quality of his prose.
I didn't love his style in the original trilogy, especially the first book, which was a very rough journal like book where lots of events barely got exposure apart from 'Then we marched to that city where we fought and won a major battle. Two thousand brothers died.' People will now argue that certain events don't need more exposure to move the story forward, and I get that, but it's just not the style I prefer in the books I read. This kinda came back with all the off screen deaths in Soldiers live. Willow, Doj, Thai Dei, Blade, Sleepy, Sahra (maybe), Murgen. Again, I get that it fits the tone of the books in a raw, nihilistic 'soldiers live and whonder why' sense, but I can't convince myself to like that. As much as I appreciate said nihilistic tone, I do like a little bit of drama in the right moments. Even Croaker knows how important showmanship is, right?
That's why I appreciate his more engaging, more detailed, often more emotional and intimate approach to writing that he adapted in the Books of the South. Makes me more engaged in the characters and that was something that I missed in the early trilogy (again, this was especially the first book).
On the finishing stretch, lets say second half of Soldiers live, I felt that Cook became clumsy. Lots of dialogues are misplaced and weird, the relationship between Croaker, Arkana and Shukrat was lukewarm and not developed enough. Lots of things happen too fast in the last few hundred pages. Like Cook rushed to get it finished.
Now, the plot absolutely peaked in the early trilogy. The story of Lady's empire is just the most concise and most fun to read. Juniper is still my favorite setting in the series. The Books of the South have a great story as well, especially the military campaigns of Croaker and Lady. I also loved Mogaba as a character and the way Cook set him up from new recruit, to stoical model soldie

We recommend feeding your African Dwarf Frogs a few (to several) different foods in rotation. This a good way to help them get their nutritional needs met. Some foods make a decent staple, like the frozen Mysis shrimp, packaged in the little cubes and found at many pet stores. Some are treat material, like frozen brine shrimp (found in the same type of cubed packaging at the pet store), and some provide the vitamins and minerals they might otherwise be missing in an all protein diet; like a pellet food formulated specifically for frogs.
Freeze-dried foods and Bloodworms:
These foods are not recommended. A quick google search will lead you down a rabbit hole of forum posts going back and forth, pro and against, these food items. The bottom line for us is that there is a possibility that these foods are commonly associated with internal damage and bloating, and with so many other options available, why chance it?
Frozen foods:
As mentioned above, you can usually locate a freezer in your local pet store that has a variety of frozen fish foods packaged in little cubes. You might be lucky enough to find these: Mysis shrimp, Brine shrimp, Daphnia, Blackworms, and Mosquito larvae. These are all decent staple foods, minus the Brine; which definitely has a bit of protein, but is reportedly missing some other things and therefore should be used as a treat of sorts, vs a staple. For example, I personally use it about every other evening when mine are sitting in the bowl and begging for another feed. In the morning I give my 10 ADFs one cube of thawed Mysis; and about every third day they get some crushed up pellets mixed in with either their Mysis or their Brine.
Pellet foods:
When choosing a pellet food, please consider the ingredients. Avoid any listing corn in the ingredients and/or any other vegetable matter. This can cause your frogs to have loose/runny bowel movements and nobody wants that, especially your frogs. You also want to avoid any listing copper and/or zinc high up in the ingredients list. If they are down toward the end of the list, they are minimal amounts and when used in rotation with other foods, shouldnβt be problematic. First of all, dad jokes CAN be NSFW, it clearly says so in the sub rules. Secondly, it doesn't automatically make it a dad joke if it's from a conversation between you and your child. Most importantly, the jokes that your CHILDREN tell YOU are not dad jokes. The point of a dad joke is that it's so cheesy only a dad who's trying to be funny would make such a joke. That's it. They are stupid plays on words, lame puns and so on. There has to be a clever pun or wordplay for it to be considered a dad joke.
Again, to all the fellow dads, I apologise if I'm sounding too harsh. But I just needed to get it off my chest.
I just saw episode 1 of the attrocity that Amazon has committed with Wheel Of Time; and I'm actually glad the proposed project is in development purgatory and less likely to happen. A simple fact is that they simply CAN'T not f*** it up. If they can screw up something as bland and tame as the first chapters of Eye of the World, imagine what they would do with a complex beginning as "Legate"?
First off, the grimdark edge will be sanded down before anyone reads a first draft of the script. Despite the whole point is that they are NOT the good guys, they'll look like the International Red Cross before they even leave Beryl. They won't be subtle about Soulcatcher being a woman at all. One-Eye and Goblin would be turned into a tribute to Vaudeville and there won't be any waiting for Shadow Games before Croaker and Lady get it on.
Again, going back to Amazon's WoT; they are screwing that up with a substantial budget.
Chances are, BC wouldn't get that kind of backing. First two books on a budget, pretty dicey but White Rose? Uh uh, windwhales on a shoestring would be a disaster.
Imagine Toadkiller Dog, and he looks like Gamork from Neverending Story...
Nah, best to let it stay in our minds from print than to commit it to digital pixels and proceed to let out of touch studio execs sodomize it.
Don't believe me?
The most sought after script of all time was called Nottingham. It was a deconstruction of Robin Hood, where the Sheriff is hunting a serial killer that the Prince claims in Robin, but the Sheriff knows better.
Sounds interesting? All of Hollywood thought so, bidding was intense. Finally it was sold, and they brought in famed director Ridley Scott. He said "what is this horseshit, we're doing Robin Hood" and they threw away the script they paid millions for and rehashed the same garbage that's been done since Errol Flynn, and bo one liked it.
So it's that easy to take grade A material, and flush it down the shitter.
GoT was a success because Martin was a screenwriter before he was an author, and knew people; and got himself a producer chair.
Cook wouldn't get that, and any adaptation without the property owner is always a shitshow.
Do your worst!
I'm surprised it hasn't decade.

HOW I GOT ONTO the platform Iβm unable to say. Perhaps the Canadian transferred me there. But I could breathe, I could inhale the life-giving sea air. Next to me my two companions were getting tipsy on the fresh oxygen particles. Poor souls who have suffered from long starvation mustnβt pounce heedlessly on the first food given them. We, on the other hand, didnβt have to practice such moderation: we could suck the atoms from the air by the lungful, and it was the breeze, the breeze itself, that poured into us this luxurious intoxication!
βAhhh!β Conseil was putting in. βWhat fine oxygen! Let master have no fears about breathing. Thereβs enough for everyone.β
As for Ned Land, he didnβt say a word, but his wide-open jaws would have scared off a shark. And what powerful inhalations! The Canadian βdrewβ like a furnace going full blast.
Our strength returned promptly, and when I looked around, I saw that we were alone on the platform. No crewmen. Not even Captain Nemo. Those strange seamen on the Nautilus were content with the oxygen circulating inside. Not one of them had come up to enjoy the open air.
The first words I pronounced were words of appreciation and gratitude to my two companions. Ned and Conseil had kept me alive during the final hours of our long death throes. But no expression of thanks could repay them fully for such devotion.
βGood lord, professor,β Ned Land answered me, βdonβt mention it! What did we do thatβs so praiseworthy? Not a thing. It was a question of simple arithmetic. Your life is worth more than ours. So we had to save it.β
βNo, Ned,β I replied, βit isnβt worth more. Nobody could be better than a kind and generous man like yourself!β
βAll right, all right!β the Canadian repeated in embarrassment.
βAnd you, my gallant Conseil, you suffered a great deal.β
βNot too much, to be candid with master. I was lacking a few throatfuls of air, but I would have gotten by. Besides, when I saw master fainting, it left me without the slightest desire to breathe. It took my breath away, in a manner of . . .β
Confounded by this lapse into banality, Conseil left his sentence hanging.
βMy friends,β I replied, very moved, βweβre bound to each other forever, and Iβm deeply indebted to youββ
βWhich Iβll take advantage of,β the Canadian shot back.
βEh?β Conseil put in.
βYes,β Ned Land went on. βYou can repay your debt by coming with me when I leave this infernal Nautilus.β
βBy the way,β Conseil said, βare we going in a favorable direction?

It really does, I swear!
Because she wanted to see the task manager.
Heard they've been doing some shady business.
THIS DREADFUL SCENE on April 20 none of us will ever be able to forget. I wrote it up in a state of intense excitement. Later I reviewed my narrative. I read it to Conseil and the Canadian. They found it accurate in detail but deficient in impact. To convey such sights, it would take the pen of our most famous poet, Victor Hugo, author of The Toilers of the Sea.
As I said, Captain Nemo wept while staring at the waves. His grief was immense. This was the second companion he had lost since we had come aboard. And what a way to die! Smashed, strangled, crushed by the fearsome arms of a devilfish, ground between its iron mandibles, this friend would never rest with his companions in the placid waters of their coral cemetery!
As for me, what had harrowed my heart in the thick of this struggle was the despairing yell given by this unfortunate man. Forgetting his regulation language, this poor Frenchman had reverted to speaking his own mother tongue to fling out one supreme plea! Among the Nautilusβs crew, allied body and soul with Captain Nemo and likewise fleeing from human contact, I had found a fellow countryman! Was he the only representative of France in this mysterious alliance, obviously made up of individuals from different nationalities? This was just one more of those insoluble problems that kept welling up in my mind!
Captain Nemo reentered his stateroom, and I saw no more of him for a good while. But how sad, despairing, and irresolute he must have felt, to judge from this ship whose soul he was, which reflected his every mood! The Nautilus no longer kept to a fixed heading. It drifted back and forth, riding with the waves like a corpse. Its propeller had been disentangled but was barely put to use. It was navigating at random. It couldnβt tear itself away from the setting of this last struggle, from this sea that had devoured one of its own!
Ten days went by in this way. It was only on May 1 that the Nautilus openly resumed its northbound course, after raising the Bahamas at the mouth of Old Bahama Channel. We then went with the current of the seaβs greatest river, which has its own banks, fish, and temperature. I mean the Gulf Stream.
It is indeed a river that runs independently through the middle of the Atlantic, its waters never mixing with the oceanβs waters. Itβs a salty river, saltier than the sea surrounding it. Its average depth is 3,000 feet, its average width sixty miles. In certain localities its current moves at a speed of four kilo

... keep reading on reddit β‘Excuse me but I've got an idea on how I'd reboot Fillmore
STORY STRUCTURE
The story structure for the Fillmore reboot would have parallels but cleverly smartly parody cop shows, most notably cop shows of today like CBSβs Blue Bloods, NBCβs Chicago PD, and ABCβs The Rookie (and not the baseball Disney movie of the same name); however, it would also take inspiration from action films like John Wooβs Hard Boiled, and because of magic being in Fillmore and his friend could also go on exciting adventures outside of school as a Story Arc. Some plots would be ripped from the headlines and it would also tackle as well more serious issues with policing (police brutality, justice reform, etc)
Also in the reboot there would be a massive shootout once or twice per episode inspired by John Wooβs Hard Boiled shootouts. (with both sides using laser blasters and Airsoft as opposed to real guns after all it is a Disney show.) There will also be chase scenes as well (and sometimes a combination of the two)
Also, some seasons would have a 9-13 episode story arc and a central Big Bad in each of those arcs and a TV movie saga based on Marvel Studiosβ Infinity Saga.
HOW LONG THE SERIES WOULD LAST
It would last around 3 seasons with more should the fans want more with each season being 26 episodes each
DISTRIBUTION
It would be a Disney+ exclusive and only shown in the US and US allied countries. China will have no export.
CROSSOVERS WITH OTHER DISNEY SHOWS
The shows that Fillmore would crossover with would be Wander Over Yonder, Milo Murphyβs Law, Phineas and Ferb, The 7D, Star Vs The Forces of Evil, Mighty Ducks: The Animated Series, The Owl House, Big City Greens Lilo & Stitch, Amphibia, Gravity Falls, Teamo Supremo, The Ghost and Molly McGee, Future-Worm and DuckTales (2017) as a shared universe (Think of the MCU). Elements from other Disney properties (Like K.C Undercoverβs The Other Side) would be used as well.
THE RATING
The rating would be in the TV-Y7 FV range, with lots of Airsoft/blaster gunfights and instances of brutality of students inflicted by Safety Patrollers, especially by Sasha. Language would be limited to insults (like grop, florp, etc)
THE ART STYLE
I would go for a blend of Amphibia and Ducktales 2017 art and animation style for all characters.
