A list of puns related to "Uhthoff's phenomenon"
I've just stumble on this paper :
https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/19473682/
In it they state: " These four patients presented transient neurological symptoms induced by intensive sporting activity for 1 to 6 years before diagnosis of multiple sclerosis.". Has any of you experienced something similar? Having heat sensitivity long before diagnosis?
I had an MRI in July and was surprised with the news that I likely have MS. After bloodwork and a lumbar puncture, itβs starting to appear as that I do. Iβm special, like all MS cases, in that I donβt have physical symptoms of MS, or they are cleverly hidden as almost the same chronic headaches and migraines Iβve had since 13. (Important/fun side note, the MRI 4 years ago had 1 lesion.) in the last few years I have noticed that I do not do well in the heat. I had been blaming that on being on Topiramate, but Iβve learned recently it could also be a symptom of MS. For those of you who also struggle with heat, is it an all the time issue or just during a relapse(for those with relapsing ms)? Iβd ask my doctor, but thanks to a mess up by the scheduling department, what started as a not far off appointment was set with the wrong doctor and now my next appointment isnβt for another 6 weeks. Thank you in advance for any insight. New to this and not ready to give up running/biking/existing in Indiana summers.
Background: I had Optic Neuritis about 30 days ago, and have been on prednisone ever since. After the initial mega dose, have tapered down to 60mg, and will taper in the next few weeks. I regained 20:20 vision in the affected eye, but I have noticed that when I am working out, my vision and accuity definitely decreases precipitously. Doesn't seem to work for me in the shower though.
My question for you all, is how Uhtoff's (when a symptom from de-myelination comes out on raising body temperature) develop, or how has it developed for you? Is there a gradual re-myelination or something where the Uhtoffs phenomenon goes away over weeks/months/years, or is this level of decreased acuity upon overheating set at this level permanently? Somewhere in between?
Not looking for medical advice, just personal stories.
My 3.5 y/o is "only" 12 kgs (26.4 lbs) and about 100 cm (39.4 in). At the start of the year, her pediatrician told us to make an appointment with endocrinology. In April, just before the date, she got EDIT: chickenpox, so we couldn't come. We were supposed to come this week, but a lot of stuff came up. So I emailed them and asked for a change and they got kinda mad that we keep moving it. I'm supposed to email them at the end of the summer.
The problem is, I'm scared to take an hour-long trip to the endo office by public transport. My husband is out of town and I need his help when we visit the kid's doctors. I have MS and the heat we experience causes me a lot of problems - trouble walking and even thinking. I prefer short trips. Unfortunately, I would do a lot for my kid, but I'm not risking putting her in danger if I fall in the middle of the road cuz my legs shut off. I need my husband to help, I mean it. But even he is mad now that I moved the appointment. And I told him I have trouble going outside for longer whether it's too hot or too cold (Uhthoff's phenomenon).
And the last thing: Am I wrong for thinking my kid is fine? Even before she was born, doctors were afraid she is too small. But now she is growing according to the curve, a bit below it but follows it. All tests so far have come out fine.
Yeah, she is skinny and short. I wish she ate more. She runs a lot and is very active. We tried the "when she's hungry she'll eat" way, but she ate almost nothing and ran around, so we switched to "you need to eat some of your food before you run away to play". If you have better ideas do let me know. I don't think I cook that badly.
And if someone has experience with small kids and growth hormone therapy, please share.
Sorry for the rant, I hope you understand.
I've hit the one year anniversary since the ER Neuro said it was probably MS. At the end of June I started to lose my eyesight in my right eye, two days later (July 1st) it had gone completely "grey." Ophthalmologist said eyeball was healthy and sent me to the ER. I was in the hospital for a few days, landing across the 4th--with Covid well underway, no visitors--heck I wasn't even allowed off the floor.
I remember watching fireworks on TV and the Internet with my wife on the other end of my cell phone. I really thought the 1yr anniversary was going to hit me emotionally, but it's been OK. Probably b/c the Houston fireworks were kind of funny--getting lost in the smoke since there was no wind to clear it out.
My MS Neuro suggested Kesimpta to me--i'd probably been dealing with MS since 2016, when I'd had a bogus Gullian-Barre diagnosis so he wanted to start me on an pretty effect DMT. Plus since Kesimpta is self-administered, no need to be around people, and possibly exposing myself to Covid.
A year later, no relapses. Some minor balance, heat-based sensitivity, particularly since Summer has hit (Uhthoff's phenomenon) Lots of therapy. Lots of anxiety, but getting better. Now, waiting for my 1yr MRIs later this month to really measure any progress of this disease.
I even got a new job (same employer, so no disruption to insurance.) My therapist had given the initial label of a mild adjustment disorder (you know...massive DX, global pandemic, current job becoming something I didn't like) so being able to make a cogent informed decision to change jobs was actually a pretty good sign.
Anyways, I just wanted to write this all down. Thank you for being my support group. Everyone here is so supportive, and helpful. Particularly during the initial DX, and not knowing what the hell was going on with my nervous system.
Again, THANK YOU.

For context I'm a Refuse Driver (Garbage man) & today I was on food waste. After I'd tipped I was checking the wagon for any defects when I spotted a lone pea balanced on the lifts.

This sub is mostly just NSFW puns now.
If it needs a NSFW tag it's not a dad joke. There should just be a NSFW puns subreddit for that.
Edit* I'm not replying any longer and turning off notifications but to all those that say "no one cares", there sure are a lot of you arguing about it. Maybe I'm wrong but you people don't need to be rude about it. If you really don't care, don't comment.

Hello everyone,
Was diagnosed last year after having issues with my vision. A couple MRI's and several Dr. Visits later, I was diagnosed and started ocrevus! I still seem to have problems with my vision when I get active (hot) or eat a big meal. Anyone else experience this, and have any suggestions? I can still see, but it's like looking through a fog at night (hard to explain).
Thanks in advance
Bob
