A list of puns related to "Tris"
Well, I finally finished IMTX 70.3, after a year of anticipation! I did my first triathlon (sprint) a little over a year ago and have completed 3 sprints and 1 oly since! To say Iβm hooked would be an understatement! This sport has the most amazing, generous and thoughtful athletes one could ask for in a sport. This subreddit has given me tons of advice over the year and I thought Iβd pay it back by giving yaβll a full report on my very first half.
About the race: IMTX 70.3 is in Galveston, TX and is a relatively easy race. The swim is shaped like a triangle, the bike is an out and back and the run takes you around Moody Gardens, with lots of turns. Many people complained about the run, saying that it was hard to get into a good pace with so many turns and that two of the aid stations were too far apart. I agree with the aid stations, but the many turns broke up the run into smaller sections for me and it helped make the run feel faster. The one thing you have to be wary of is the winds on the bike portion. They are chaotic and can change at the drop of a hat. Youβll often get crosswinds and headwinds both ways. Thankfully, the winds were kind to me on race day and were between 15-17mph. Nothing terrible.
Pre-Swim: The day started off a bit chaotic. I should have woken up much earlier in the morning to give myself plenty of time. Iβm not a fast mover in the morning. I woke up about 4:30, exactly 1 hr before I wanted to head to transition, which opened at 5 and closed at 6:45. That still wasnβt enough time. Like I said, Iβm very slow in the mornings. I like to slowly wake up, eat my breakfast while watching TV and not rush. Thatβs exactly what didnβt happen. It took a while to get my kit on, numbers on, eat breakfast and finish packing whatever items needed to be packed. I ended up leaving the room around 4:50, which stressed me out. Not exactly how I want to feel the morning before my first 70.3. I got to transition around 5 and started laying out my gear. Once I laid everything out, I calmed down. Before I knew it, transition was closing and I needed to head to the swim start. Waiting for our wave to line up, I began getting into my zone and tried to keep calm, which wasnβt easy! I had butterflies in my stomach and just wanted to get going.
Swim (0:54): As soon as I got in the water I was calmed down immediately. I love ows so I donβt panic easily on the swim. Additionally, the temperature felt good (although that might have been the pe
