Does anyone know if a wind ensemble arrangement for Mvt. 3 of the Weber Bassoon Concerto in F Major exists?
I have been searching for a while now for a wind ensemble arrangement of the third movement of the Weber Bassoon Concerto in F Major, and have yet to find one. The reason I'd need it is because every year, my high school does a senior concerto competition, and I was hoping to audition on the third movement. Unfortunately, my high school doesn't have an orchestra, only a band :/
Any feedback is very much appreciated!

βThe Expanded Bassoon Register" is now published by KOR Publications! This book (40 pages) got all the fingerings I know and use for the highest notes. Highest note: G8! But more importantly it explains how to actually play the notes. Itβs available here: www.kristianomaronnes.com/new-publication

I recently bought a Linton bassoon for $400 but im worried about what people are saying about it. Im 99% sure its wood and it sounded fine when I tested it. Im not all too worried about it being the best because im a beginner but is there anything i should be worried about?

Hi guys, just going over some bassoon maintenance and noticed this gap of wood at the bottom of my boot joint. Is this normal? Could this be a sign of moisture build up? I looked into the tube with a flashlight and didn't see anything that looked out of the ordinary. It's a fox 240.

Audition judges are still confused on what the bassoon is.
I was auditioning for my school district honor band and they gave me a trombone part to audition with. I was really confused but practiced it anyway. I showed up to the audition room and walked in and the first thing the judge says to me is βWait thatβs not a saxophone!β I am utterly disappointed.
Edit: I made second chair in the top band. :-)

How can people ever play the bassoon without the short reach plateau key?
The only bassoon I have ever played was a Fox Renard 41, for a couple of years. I'm out of the country and arranged some borrowed bassoons to play in the meantime.
First I thought the instruments - a cheap Chinese one and a Schreiber - were just worse than the one I am used to because the holes in the left hand have weird positions.
Then I went to look at the Renard 41 on Fox's website and realized I've been "cheating" all the time!
Thing is... I'm in my thirties. It's not like my hand is going to grow anymore... and to make the ring finger reach all the way down there with the middle one fully closing its hole is impossible to do for more than a few minutes.
How do you guys do it???
/rant
edit: do you guys curve your middle finger to attack the hole with the tip of your finger, or did you get the hang of fully covering the middle finger hole with your middle finger knuckle so the ring finger reaches further?

Need advice about the bassoon
I am arranging the Pathetique Sonata for a symphony orchestra. I have gotten to the second Grave section and the notes reach the very lowest register of the bassoon. Before I get too deep into the orchestration, I need some advice about the bassoon relating to dynamics in registers.
Can the bassoon play pianissimo in its lowest register? Because the last note of the Grave section that I would put in the bassoon part is a B natural below the bass staff and guess what, after a diminuendo in an octave figure, that B natural below the bass staff is pianissimo. I know the bassoon can be very mellow sounding but can B natural below the bass staff be played pianissimo? If not, then I will just have that note played by the double basses and notate it up an octave from where it is in the piano score to get the desired pitch(I would have these notes in the octave figure played by the double basses anyway).

How hard is the bassoon ?
Hello redditors !
So I was watching TwoSet Violin latest video on bassoon and I read in the comments that a lot of people agreed that bassoon was one of the hardest instrument to play, which confused me, because I always thought string instruments like the violin were considered the hardest. I play the violin and the piano, but I'm particularly interested in this for I would like to learn at least on woodwind instrument and one brass in my life !
Can any multi-instrumentalist out theree enlighten me on this question ? Thank you !

Are there any common mistakes you see composers or orchestrators make when writing for the bassoon?
Or that an orchestrator should be aware of? Iβm trying to add breaks for breathing, stay within range, and not have insane diminuendos, anything else?
Are there any orchestral pieces that you think are particularly good examples of orchestral bassoon?
