The vet had recently diagnosed him with silly yak disease.
Well, my dad asked me to mow the field in front of the house. So I went to the garage to get the lawn mower, and checked the fuel. It was nearly empty, so I took the jerry can at the corner of the garage and filled it up. Then, I went to mow the field, but noticed that the engine was very hard to start, had no power and sometimes stalled. I was in a hurry, so I just ignored it and kept going. After I had finished, something clicked in my head! We have two jerry cans in the garage, one with diesel and one with petrol. I suddenly realised why the mower was running like garbage and freaked out. I knew that my dad would be angry if I ruined his mower. So I went out, drained the tank, and filled the tank with petrol, while praying that I didn't break it. After that, I cranked it like 20 times, but nothing happened. I was getting really scared. I kept on cranking it, and it started to sputter, while making clouds of smoke. I cranked it a few more times and it started, but still with a lot of smoke. I kept it running for a few more minutes, and the smoke started to go away. It ran smoother and the power was back. It seemed to be back to normal, and I was relieved. So, in the end it was fine.
I would like to thank Briggs and Stratton for making lawn mower engines that run on the wrong type of fuel...
I guess it didn't break because it's a very simple, one cylinder, air cooled carburetted engine. If it had been some kind of more advanced, fuel injected engine with tighter tolerances, I doubt it would have survived...
TL;DR I put diesel in my dad's mower. It ran like garbage, but, in the end, I put petrol in it and it survived.
