Turkey urged Greece not to increase its territorial waters from six to twelve nautical miles in the Aegean sea, an elongated embayment of the Mediterranean Sea between Europe and Asia.
Turkeyโs defence minister Hulusi Akar warned Greece on Saturday. The minister said to resolve all differences through peaceful dialogue. He said, โI hope they (Greece) wonโt make a mistake and think of extending the territorial waters to 12 miles.โ He further added, โLet the two sides benefit from the riches, let both the Turkish people and the Greek people live happily and prosperously.โ
The defence minister of Turkey on Greece
The defence minister of Turkey said that if Greece imposes 12-mile territorial waters in the Aegean Sea, Turkey will have to take permission from the government of Greece to sail towards the international waters. The minister said that Turkey will be unable to do anything without taking the consent of the Greek government.
The minister further complained that although Greece expanded its territories more than four times since its foundation, it is still blaming Turkey for colonialist policies. He also said that Greece is creating new alliances with some NATO (North Atlantic Treaty Organisation) countries.
Turkey-Greece relation
Both countries have several pending problems originating from the Aegean Sea. Earlier, Turkey asked Greece not to extend the territorial waters from 6 to 12 miles. However, Greece claimed that it has a right to extend its territorial waters from the current 6 to 12 miles in line with the U.N. Convention on the Law of the Sea.
Reportedly, in 2021, the Greek parliament voted to extend its waters along its western coastline, on the other side of the country, to 12 miles. Greece recently called on Turkey to repeal the decision to consider an extension of the territorial waters as a cause for war if it wants to normalise ties.
Hi everybody, I am copying this over from the slack channel we have to discuss here on Reddit. I have a question when it comes to Seasteading, what is a good distance or surrounding waters around a Seastead that would be considered 'Territorial Waters'? The only reason that I brought up surrounding waters in terms of property rights, is because of some questions that I have about the homesteading principle and other ideas from the Austrian School of economics. If someone builds a house on unused property then they should have the right to live there right? But if someone builds a house a few feet from my house, and I think that they could be a physical danger to me, can I not tell them to leave? I get that the idea of property rights we are working with says that they get to stay from an ancap perspective, but would that extend to homeless people putting up shacks on someone's lawn? And when it comes to seasteading, how close can a boat full of pirates come to an inhabited structure before you can tell them to leave? Do they have to actually board it or just get close enough to be a threat? I am not saying you can plant a flag somewhere and that territory becomes yours, but but should some kind of safety buffer zone exist?
Press release, 08.06.2044
(AIKYAMPURA) - The Ministry of Defence has ordered snap mobilization drills across the Persekutuan in light of the Alfheim Imperial Navy's transit through Nusantaran territorial waters.
The Nusantara League continues to recognize the right of innocent passage through our archipelagic and territorial waters, and recognizes the importance of the Straits of Malacca and Sunda to international maritime traffic.
As part of these mobilization drills, all Regional Territorial Commands across the Nusantara League have been temporarily federalized and placed on alert. Additionally, all available Angkatan Udara combat and combat support squadrons have been ordered to disperse to one of multiple pre-determined rough fields or roadway strips as previously practiced in resilience drills, and all available Angkatan Laut warships have been ordered to sortie from harbour to conduct pre-assigned duties in ensuring the sovereignty of this Persekutuan.
Regional maritime security assets have been detailed to enforce the restrictions and conditions associated with the right of innocent passage, and to ensure that the security of this Persekutuan is not threatened.
A total of 1.36 million personnel are to be mobilized under these exercises, supplemented by another 550,000 paramilitary personnel.
The Angkatan Bersenjata Nusantara and the Ministry of Defence remain committed to the total national defence of the Nusantara League, and with this snap mobilization exercise will demonstrate to every Nusantaran citizen the utmost dedication that must be shown to the defence of this archipelago.
Are there any good, general neg plans for territorial water affs? It seems like an interesting (and as far as I know, unique) range of possible affs and Iโm interested in hearing what yโall think.
Anything from fishing within our territorial waters to oil spills within that range count as possible affs
