A list of puns related to "Sudden cardiac death of athletes"
Provides some context for the observation that "a lot of sports people have been having cardiac issues lately", which could reflect confirmation bias but in fact represents a fivefold, and according to the article* ~8 sigma, increase, implying a vanishingly small (<< 1/100,000) probability under the previously observed distribution.
Cardiac death is the #1 cause of death on earth, above cancers.
> Beta-blockers reduce the risk of SCD by 31%, CVD by 29%, and all-cause mortality by 33% and therefore, this meta-analysis study confirms beta-blockersβ clinical benefits and should be recommended to all patients similar to those included in the trials.

The unknown to me is wether you need to take beta blockers chronically to see this revolutionnary reduced mortality or wether taking for the first time a beta blocker acutely, while having a sudden tachychardia have a similar rate of reduced mortality.
if so, then this is another classic example of the gatekeeping of drugs by the Federal Death Agency being more harmful than the World War II.
unrelated: what would be the best beta/alpha blocker for acutely stopping a methyl/amphetamine induced tachychardia? and how does it compare to benzos for this use, can/should they be combined? (I'm talking about exceptional acute use, not as a chronic way to tolerate higher stim doses)
