A list of puns related to "Slugging percentage"
If this mythical player got on base 100 percent of the time heβd be worth it, but at what point would it be no longer justified having him on the team?
Just a thought experiment I came up with while watching moneyball
Itβs odd how little power these guys are hitting for. The Yankees in general have had a massive fall in power this year. The dejuiced balls probably play a roll but this is still a massive fall that canβt be entirely explained by that.
Iβm not mad, but this is impressively bad hitting. Fortunately his fielding has been pretty good.

Welcome to r/baseball's Players of the Week feature! We have one Voter from each team, and we vote each week on the best hitting and pitching performances in both the American League and the National League. This week (May 10th through May 16th), we had 26 Votes.
Our Voters are charged with a simple question: Which MLB players had the best week?
All stats are from Baseball-Reference.com's excellent Daily Game Log Finder tool.

I was messing around with some statistical analysis software and discovered this dude because my program gouped all of the players that year into four groups, one of which was just him lol
He batted .429 and led the league in runs, hits, doubles, triples, walks, BA, OBP, SLG, OPS, and OPS+.
George Hall of the Athletics also had an OPS+ over 200, but the only thing he got to lead the league in was home runs. He was also born in London.
The Cubs dominated that season, going 52-14, and having not only the #1 player in OPS+, but also #3-6 and #8. They were never more that 0.5 games out of first place.
Slugging percentage is defined as the number of total bases divided by the number of at bats. Ruth had 5793 total bases divided by 8399 at bats, for a slugging percentage of 0.6897. Williams had 4884 total bases divided by 7709 at bats for a slugging percentage of 0.6335.
To figure out how many consecutive home runs Williams would need to match Ruth's slugging percentage, we can use the equation
>(4884 + 4x)/(7706 + x) = 0.6897.
Each home run will add four total bases, but it will also add one at bat. Multiplying the 7706 term to the other side gives us
>4884 + 4x = 5315.0206 + 0.6897x
(I used more than 4 decimal places in Ruth's slugging percentage for this calculation).
Subtracting the 4884 and the 0.6987x, we get
>3.3103x = 431.0206.
Finally, dividing by 3.3103 we get 130.206 home runs. Since rounding to 130 would put him fractions of a percent below Ruth, we would have to round up to 131 for Williams to pass him up.
Maybe Ted is still frozen for this very reason!
I know its a shortened season, and the Mets previous record of .613 is nothing special(Piazza, 2000) but I still feel that this is a noteworthy achievement for a guy who was a backup coming into the season. He should thank Cespedes for dipping after a week, and freeing up the playing time so that Dom could have the time to shine needed for an awesome season. Let's hope both him and Big Meat Pete stay together going forward and get to rake.
What a God. He won his second MVP that year, becoming only the 14th player to win back to back MVPs. (At the time, he was the 7th player to ever do it).
Max is at .313 and Davis at .232.
It's Alex Avila.
I don't think I've seen Avila's struggles mentioned much in this sub. He's been absolutely terrible. It seems like he always comes up during an important at-bat and completely kills the momentum by striking out. The silver lining is that he's still solid as a catcher.
Here are his stats, as well as several players with similarly embarrassing offensive lines. Just... yikes, all of them. It feels like we have an unusually high number of players this year who have just absolutely forgotten how to hit a baseball. Amazingly, Davis has some of the better stats in this table, but he has the lowest WAR because of poor defense and receiving more playing time.
Note: Headley was released in May, Calhoun is on the DL, and Davis has been benched indefinitely.
