A list of puns related to "Radiation pressure"
Honestly, this is working out a lot better than the me-flavoured broth I've been trying to sell.
So I'm trying to get an intuitive understanding of radiation pressure, but nothing I've found really explains it in a way that fundamentally makes sense (as opposed to making mathematical sense). How does a photon have any momentum when it's mass is zero? I've heard explanations stating that since light is a wave, and waves have momentum, light must have momentum, but that still leaves me with another question. Mass is caused by interactions with the Higgs field, which is separate from the electromagnetic field, so how would any momentum from the electromagnetic field be transferred to the Higgs field (but I would think that would have to be the case, since radiation pressure exists). I think i have just enough understanding of these subjects "to be dangerous", but not enough to fully grasp them, so that probably just makes things worse. Any explanation would be appreciated, or suggestions for books/articles i should read.
With no way to return to safety and only four hours of oxygen left until you die, would you rather be stuck suspended underwater in the semi-dark ocean or spin slowly away from safety in outer space?
"Radiation pressure is the mechanical pressure exerted upon any surface due to the exchange of momentum between the object and the electromagnetic field."
Given that matter above 0K emits electromagnetic energy through blackbody radiation, how much of the universe's expansion can be attributed to radiation pressure?
I assume the rate of expansion generated by radiation pressure would drop over time as the universe cools and expands.
if this effect is possible then i deserve a noble prize for the first real warp drive design XD
Does the Compton formula for photon momentum lead to classical macroscopic radiation pressure in the correspondence limit?
If yes, a laser emitting spacecraft is pushed in the opposite direction?
If no, if I attach a laser emitting tool to a solar sail, can I generate a net push of the two body system?
Both answers seem to violate some physics law. So I'm probably missing some important point.
Why CIG making accent only on temperature and humidity? Space β very dangerous place. We fly on ships that can be threat itself. More then year they keep silence about depressurization and ships pipes/energy system. I think would be cool remember not only about planets, especially if we speak about gear and spacesuits.
I know the radiation pressure is apposite the force of gravity at all parts of the orbit. Since radiation pressure falls off with the 4th power of distance and gravity the 2nd power, I would imagine the radiation pressure would be greatest at the aphelion and slowly over time push the aphelion away from the sun.
