A list of puns related to "Public administration"
Hi! Lurker ape here, and like the title says I was curious if folks would be interested in a 'Masters in Public Administration 101' type post/masterpost? Just in case, the MPA is like an MBA for non-profit and government types, and it's what I graduated with. (Mods, I can send proof if you need it?) I think everyone's already up to really awesome ideas here, it's that I found the MPA coursework helped make my own efforts more effective even after working in non-profits for years, and at the very least could help folks look at non-profits with a bit more wrinkled brain.
(Like I saw this post by u/blueberry_404 and it covers a fair bit about getting started, but there's still a lot of stuff to cover, especially for once you're up and running.)
Topics I was thinking to cover:
If you’re starting/running a non-profit/non-government organization (NPO/NGO, US focused):
Working on on the ground change:
If there's anything you'd want me to add, I'm game! My personal background is in riparian and wetland remediation, so I'm not going to be as helpful for folks wanting to, say, find specific grants on rewinterization efforts, but I'm glad to help where I can.
(And yeah, wasn't sure what to flair this since it doesn't have resources. So, fluff it is!)
UPDATE: Since the answer is 'yes' I'm working on it! It's going to take me a while, because I hadn't written any summary work yet. (Wasn't really sure what folks might want and all that.) So give me at least a week or two since I want to evaluate
... keep reading on reddit ➡Like the title says. The City's administration will be tabling their report to council today. It's the first step in a process that could see our public golf courses being privatised. Our rec centres being privatised. Charges for things like parking at Ft. Edmonton or the Valley Zoo. The whole list is here.
If you're interested in following the debate, then feel free to pop in during the day.
Political science as an undergrad did not even exists on LinkedIn. Most of the alumni even put Public Administration on their profile. On its own, this field is gradually losing its mighty appeal during the 90s. You need to integrate coding and statistics in this field (undergrad) which require further studies to fulfill the role.
Please take this post with a grain of salt, I am ready to be stand corrected.
My take: Theory without implementation is deemed useless in this era of job market. I really admire burning passion of fellow students to excel and improve this field but sadly, micro always wins when macro becomes so convulsed in a grand manner where complex machinations and factors makes it improbable to predict the outcome in the future.
Nowadays, people always favor individuals who get the job done, in contrast with vague predictions of this Academia in regards to possible conjectures.
After all, the federal government of USA withdraw its funding in the academia of Political Science. For whatever reasons they have, I am sure they are displease with the hit or miss predictions of previous political scientists.
Still, this degree is only helpful when applying within the government. Provided that you passed the Civil Service and other hard prerequisites of different agencies/bureaus. Bottom-line is, it cannot stand on its own.
I still highly encourage to minor on this field (Political Science). At this moment, Everyone prefers to major on a professional, licensed degree that will help produce hard, technical skills. Minor will only help in soft skills.
Putain, et ce mec a failli devenir président de la République.
*business grad I can’t decide that’s why
Check out after minute 14. "Firefox is THE browser. Everything that has to work trough the web has to work on Firefox".
I notice the reason why many conservatives are against public administration of services (such as healthcare) is the general distrust that this model could be of high quality, efficient and innovative under an administration that does not have to pursue these qualities in order to stay in the market.
But do you know examples of good administration of such services, in and outside the US? What about examples of bad private administration of services of public interest, that despite being bad are very lucrative? What are they, and what do you think lead them to be that way?
Hello! I’m a recent graduate from the University of Texas A&M and I’m starting my MPA at the University of Texas at Arlington this fall. I’m considering doing a dual-master’s in City and Regional Planning.
I want to become a city manager in one of the major cities in the Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex. Will it benefit me achieve that goal?
Also, I’ve only taken intro-level college math and I don’t know the math involved in City planning, will I be fine? Also, I’m terrible at drawing anything, will I have to do any blue prints?
Last thing, what books, articles, video games/learning simulations, or podcasts can I look into that would help further my understanding in the field of Urban/City Planning?
