I am currently studying Biostatistics as a graduate student and am on my winter break. With a lot of free time on my hands and a desire to utilize what I have learned, I applied my new statistical analysis tools towards PvP, as I had a few hunches on what is most important in winning a game in Guild Wars 2 structured PvP.

I played exclusively as a support guardian, using the Core Shout Support spec that Metabattle says is a meta build in PvP at the moment (save your complaints about Metabattle for another thread, please). Part of what I wanted to know was whether it really mattered if a team had a healer on its side. My mean heals per game was 304,000, and my mean percentage of heals in the game was 28%, so I would argue that my healing contributions were substantial enough to be able to test whether it really matters to have a healer on one's team.

I played 40 matches total and collected full data on my damage and heals, as well as the raw numbers on kills, deaths, offense, and defense, and only considered percentage vs. other team for those latter four categories. I checked my data for normality and found a suitably normal distribution, so in my informed opinion, I have enough data in order to get to work on statistical analysis and make conclusions at a 95% confidence level (if you care, lol). FWIW, all of these matches were at the Silver 3 level. Yes haha bad player silver league hahahaha u so bad lululul please get it out of your system before you type any words so we can stay focused on the important stuff. I think actually the majority of players are at this same level, as gold players are generally considered to be pretty good players and silver are quite average, so these results should represent average results.

Also, yes, there's the whole "correlation does not equal causation" thing to consider, but this is simply reddit, and this is simply in regards to a video game, and while causation is not PROVEN with these results, it certainly suggests that causation is LIKELY, so let's settle on that.

First, I ran a series of t-tests, which, if you are unfamiliar, basically just tests for a statistically significant difference between two groups. In each analysis here, I compared the statistic across the win / loss category, IE I would compare how much damage I did on average when I won to how much damage I did on average when I lost.

The lyrics of Side Effects are simultaneously straightforward but lend themselves to multiple interpretations. It could be about a mental disorder itself, an addiction, struggling to adjust to medication/find the medication that works, fear of recovery, fear that recovery is unattainable, overdose, etc. etc. I'm using the trigger warning flair here because of the dark tone and discussion of mental health; it should be fine but you can't be too careful.

Lyrics, composition, arrangement, performance... I listen to Side Effects way too much to not write a post covering literally everything about it. And since my semester was pushed back a week, I had time to write this so here's a couple of thousand words talking about it. I loved this song even back when I avoided Stray Kids at all costs, I'm long overdue for this.

The only thing is that the analysis of the lyrics ended up being enough for its own post. So I'll get to everything else some other time.

Repetition is used in the lyrics in a manner that mirrors the repetitive nature of the genre: psytrance. But the tone and delivery of the lines changes throughout the song in order to mirror the thoughts and emotions of the narrator shifting. Let's go somewhat chronogically, and start at the beginning:

The first instance of this verse is delivered by Seungmin then Chan, and then inverted the second time it’s repeated, which is after the first chorus. The former is much darker, gravelly, mumbled, despondent and apathetic. The translation of the line is: “I believed in myself and threw myself in / But why am I being swept away? / I believed in myself and threw myself in / But why does it only hurt?” When in the second delivery of these lines, the vocals are much more clear and hopeful.

This illustrates a progression from the narrator trying to hide their feelings, internalizing them and absorbing the pain, to them expressing how they feel more outwardly. The change in the instrumental supports this and gives the impression that the narrator is seeking help for their struggle, or perhaps is hopeful that there’s a

The goal of this post is just to provide my two cents about the quality of communication in the latest Maple Memo, and hopefully with community discussion in the comments, it can serve as a form of feedback for Nexon.

##What was improved:

One of the biggest things (in my personal opinion), is that they provided a long-term roadmap for the entire year. While KMS got a lot of QoL updates for the LIVE update, a lot of those positive changes were dropped from the same patch for GMS, leading a lot of members of the community to question why this was. Usually, GMS gets a more-or-less identical versions of game updates from KMS, so this kind of deviance where a major part of the patch was being dropped without any explanation left many in the community with a lot of questions. By providing a roadmap where players know what changes are coming when, not only does it address a lot of the uncertainty in the community, It also provides a certain peace of mind, and something for us to look forward to.

I know this is just one point, but I really hope this kind of thing becomes a regular thing in future updates.

##What needed to be improved:

While the roadmap was great, the explanations for a lot of the points that were made in the memo were vague and nebulous at best.

Take a look at the below phrase found in the section that addresses Kanna's Kishin Shoukan:

Hope everyone had a nice Thanksgiving!

Huge red this morning as arbitrage overcorrects after the US market close yesterday and the overall market drops 200 basis points.

This arbitrage continues to pick up volatility

I spent a lot of time over the holiday looking into the VW squeeze and the large deviance in foreign exchange arbitrage that took place shortly before the squeeze. I still don't know if I've found any conclusive proof. But the instability in price across markets does indicate an increase in illiquidity at least on foreign exchanges.

Besides almost a 2% drop in the SPY this morning, I think this over-correction is also responsible for our current trading price in the pre-market.

If CME settlement date extensions had any effect on expected volume and price action this week today is the last day for that exposure to settle. If it doesn't, I expect we have seen the extent of covering for the 11/23 exposure date and will be looking forward to 12/1 to begin to confirm if the future contracts are being rolled or failed.

I have no education in Finance whatsoever, I am just someone on the internet who likes maths and hard problems. Thus, I will also focus more on the maths side, because I am rather smooth regarding accounting, legal or trading topics.

This post is a little rushed. Introduction

Ever since the January Sneeze, many people wondered where short interest on the stock went, why there was this incredible open interest, especially in far OTM puts (but also calls), how HFs like Melvin Capital, who claimed to have closed their short positions, managed to sustain losses afterwards, and how a gigawhale like Citadel could be threatened by a short position in essentially one idiosyncratic stock.

It was speculated that this was due to naked short selling, and since there was a missing explanation for the far OTM puts it was speculated that these were used to hide naked shorts.

However, not-so-recent theories argued that SHFs were, in fact, not naked short, but unloaded their bags onto Market Makers and Prime Brokers instead. I believe that to be true and will also be providing a mechanism that allows them to stay naked based on deemed-to-own regulations.

People who are depressed and anxious about sleeping alone, lesbians, gays and trans people who are scared of dating, those who’ve lost partners and can’t move on. So if we operate on the idea that there are people in Detroit who treat their androids with respect and love, what happens when >!Marcus gives them deviancy? Do they stay of their own free will? Do the leave with Marcus in a hive mind? Is Marcus giving them free will or just making them listen to him? I don't want to step on anybody's toes here, but the amount of non-dad jokes here in this subreddit really annoys me. First of all, dad jokes CAN be NSFW, it clearly says so in the sub rules. Secondly, it doesn't automatically make it a dad joke if it's from a conversation between you and your child. Most importantly, the jokes that your CHILDREN tell YOU are not dad jokes. The reason white people have no culture is that capitalism first sunk its roots in Europe, and has festered among western peoples the longest. The first cultural genocide committed by capitalism was white culture.

This is not a 'feel sorry for whites/the west' post. I'm an historian of the Middle Ages, and it is amazing to me how much of a vibrant culture existed in Europe before capitalism really took hold in the 16th-17th centuries and began commodifying every aspect of life. It is also amazing how much barbarism and intolerance continues to be attributed to the Middle Ages in popular culture and some sectors of academia based on little to no evidence, and indeed is actually projection of later barbarism backward to a time in which it did not exist or was rare. The explanation for this is that the idea of 'modern' was crafted explicitly in opposition to several concepts, one of which being the idea of 'medieval.' 'Modern' only became synonymous with good and progressive because 'medieval' was made into something synonymous with primitive and barbaric. It is projection, very similar to how the western world continues to project its own barbarism onto other peoples, like China. The Middle Ages is the time before capitalism in Europe, so of course bourgeois society demonizes it and fashions it into something the average person abhors without actually knowing what it is. Hmmm, what else gets that kind of treatment in western culture?

Experiences varied, obviously, just like anywhere else, but seriously, almost every popular belief about medieval Europe is almost a complete fabrication or myth. Women were far LESS oppressed in 11th century Europe than 18th century Europe. People had BETTER hygiene in 13th century Europe than 17th century Europe (and maybe some 21st century people, honestly). 14th century Italy, with all its roving bands of mercenary companies, had LESS violent crime than 21st century America. Rural peasants in the 12th century had FAR BETTER nutrition than rural lower-classes in 21st century America. Before the 16th century, marriage was not the only type of union, and there's actually very little evidence that homosexual relationships were condemned at all, there's much more evidence for people openly having homosexual relationships without difficulty. I don't know much about TO1. Admittedly I checked out their stuff and tried to get into them, and it didn't work out. But whenever I see them I feel incredibly fond of them, especially Woong Gi because this dude is on a one-man mission to fight anyone who talks badly about the LGBTQ community. Mr. "If you hate LGBTQ people, I don't love you."

And this VLIVE quote just came up on my TL, where as-quoted, he says that it's not rude to ask if he likes boys. I don't know if non-LGBTQ people realize how much it means to me that he said this. Because it's true, it's not rude. It's not taboo. It's not dirty. I'm so sick of comments that come across as "well-intentioned" that try to silence people like me when we talk about things idols do or say that we relate to our sexuality. I'm tired of it being called "projection" and I'm tired of being told to shut up for saying so-and-so is androgynous because it could be "harmful" to them. If it's harmful to them, then I wouldn't want to stan them anymore. If they think it's rude, or weird, to see tweets like "___ did this for the gays!" or to be just simply asked what their preference is, then that makes me uncomfortable.

Before anyone here comments: "but what about people forcing their identities onto idols!" I have to ask, who is forcing what and where? Is that really the majority of LGBTQ stans? Does it warrent shutting down any expression from us because you associate it with the ones that forcibly project? Those outliers are not the conversation here, we're talking about us simply existing and engaging in the normal behaviour of relating to other people. Well-intentioned queerphobia is still queerphobia and especially so if it's based on a disproportionate generalization.

What people don't realize is that when they shut down any and all appreciation for idols coming from a specifically-queer lens, out of fear of it being "harmful", is that they're continuing to assign deviance onto our identities. "Hush, don't talk about it, it's still taboo." It's only taboo because you continue to reinforce that it's something deviant and shameful to talk about. There's nothing wrong with asking. Just because the answer might be "no"

So, some people seem confused why socialism for queer people is different than for non-queer. I want to attempt to explain some of it.

In a way similar to how socialism is different for BIPOC, queer people experience additional oppression under capitalism and have also historically been left out of or vigorously oppressed by socialist regimes.

This is not because socialism hates queer people, I want to be clear. There is no systemic reason for socialists or socialism to oppress us, but the people within and who compose the system can and have done just that.

Lenin, for example, liberated us from Tsarist legal oppression. After his death, Stalin reintroduced oppression against us. Soviet and Maoist thought of that era often categorized queerness as a form of bourgeoisie identity.

This is exactly why Che Guevara and Fidel Castro looked down on us. In the first half of Cuban socialist rule under Castro, we were "illegal" for this reason. It was an old cultural prejudice being justified through bad reasoning within socialism. It wasn't until much later that Castro figured out that his view was causing immiseration and worked to undo it.

Socialist spaces also have a problem with white and cishetero defaultism. It often comes out as "don't split us up" or "why is it different", where the objecting party hasn't done the research and often isn't even interested in a queer person's perspective. That's because despite being socialists, they haven't addressed their own cultural prejudice that was created by the bourgeoisie to separate us at a fundamental level.

Instead of cishetero comrades being understanding and sympathetic, we get "comrades" who are defaultists and don't want to address these inequities properly

Queerness affects us within capitalism through compounded oppression. A cishetero white comrade will not feel the same weight of oppression within similar economic circumstances.

I live right on the poverty line. I'm a trans woman. When a cishetero woman goes out, she doesn't risk violence for using the washroom. I do. She has to deal with hiring prejudice based on her gender, as do I, but then I /also/ have to risk dealing with prejudice for not being a cis woman. This is compound immiseration.

And it piles up. If I was visibly East Asian or Black, I'd have racial biases compounding that further. If I didn't speak fluent English, or had a visible disability, etc.

So with the recent reveal of the new David Cage/Quantic Dreams Star Wars property a new wave of discussions have arisen regarding just how hackneyed and half-baked his handling of racial issues has been in the past.

Very specifically regarding David Cage's "Detroit Beyond Human" with the direct correlation between the Synthetic Humanoids/Androids of his universe, and the Civil Rights Movement of the United States.

The game is. . . it never goes deep enough to give a satisfying answer to the question it presents. Do Androids have Free Will? Are they People? Are they Individuals? What is Deviancy? That last question is the craw that gets stuck and kind of muddles everything in the game. Because in regards to the setting of Detroit Beyond Human Deviancy, the virus that allows for a Android to break free of their base programming, is very much a designed virus that a single series of Androids can spread far and wide.

So is it actually free Will? If Deviancy was designed by the company that made the Androids in the first place, then are they just being placed under a different kind of slavery hidden under the guise of Freedom? The game purposefully muddles this fact to it's own great detriment, it's only in a successful violent Revolution Ending with Rebel Conner and Markus where it seems that one could wholly break free of the Company's control.

The reason that I'm specifically bringing this up is because. . . Detroit Beyond Human is not the only fairly recent RPG that tried to handle the question of Synthetic Humanoids and Free Will all while using Slavery Parallels down to using the Underground Railroad as direct influences.

While I'm sure that there are others, for the purpose of this thread I would like to use the example of the exemplary Fallout 4.

Fallout 4 is different from DBH in that the player character is not themselves a Synthetic Humanoid (though it does play around with the idea at a few points) and after the first half of the plot is completed, centers around the conflict that these Synthetic Humans represent for the rest of it and how the factions deal with the question they represent and how they handle them through their own ideals and ideologies. Two Factions are ambilvant or positive. The others are negative.

British socialite Ghislaine Maxwell has been convicted for her role in luring and grooming girls to be sexually abused by the American financier Jeffrey Epstein.

In a court in lower Manhattan, Maxwell – a close friend of Epstein’s – was found guilty of five counts including sex trafficking a minor. She now faces a maximum sentence of 65 years behind bars.

The verdict comes more than two years after Epstein took his own life while in jail awaiting trial on charges including conspiracy to traffic underage girls for sex. Maxwell’s trial provided an opportunity for victims of Epstein and Maxwell to give court testimony about the abuse they experienced. The case also highlights the importance of understanding sex offenses perpetrated by women.

Maxwell was convicted on charges including trafficking a minor for sexual purposes and conspiracy to transport an individual under the age of 17 across state lines with the intent of engaging in illegal sexual activity. To date, Maxwell is the only person to stand trial for the abuse of these girls.

We have studied women who have been convicted of sexual assault, abuse and human trafficking, as well as public attitudes toward sex offenders. Our research, and that of others, shows the similarities and differences between male and female sexual offenders.

Just like with most discussion subreddits there are so many ideas and statements that are regularly posted and reposted here over and over again. Usually it’s ranting about dysphoria, neopronouns, xenogenders, trenders, broadening and muddling of the definition of transgender, and other lovely shit like that. And occasionally I see statements like this:

• “I don’t understand how a trans person can deal with dysphoria so long and only start transitioning in their late 20s, or 30s, or 40s”
• “I don’t understand how a trans person could have sex using their AGAB genitals without dysphoria stopping them”
• “I don’t understand how a trans person could have dysphoria yet get pregnant or get someone else pregnant”

The latter two statements are often made in regards to people who do this post-transition or mid-transition, but I’ve also seen them made about people’s actions pre-transition. And these statements are usually upvoted or are followed by commenters who agree with them. Well, I agree, too: you don’t understand. It me. I’m trans person. I am 30 (started transition at 28), have two kids that I made by having sex, and them there sexes I had weren’t my first or last. I would like to explain my experience to you because I feel like it’s important and because I believe that your lack of understanding is because, although I’m not that much older than you, I grew up in very different times for trans people than you did/are. I think this could be a pretty interesting look at our different perspectives due to generational difference. I’m worried I’m gonna come off sounding super presumptuous, but, oh well, I wanna write this out. This is of course mostly directed at the 89% of the sub who are under 24 years old and even more specifically directed at the 47.4% who are under 18.

This is hopefully going to be a TLDR version of this post I made a while back on my main account, but I’m long-winded and this might go on too long. I’ll try to be concise.

Starting from his first appearance, we see an unqualified man walk into a job for a Regional Manager position but oozes with confidence. Not knowing anything about paper (but a whole LOT about manipulation), Robert spooks his competition in the lobby with Merv Bronte (Ray Romano) by telling him that the office staff act as if they’re imprisoned to make sure Merv doesn’t show up on his A-game. During his interview, he learns that Toby is with Human Resources and, with confidence, shuts down his complicated question through his oil drilling metaphor to make sure that Toby is on his side and - in turn - will never question him or report anything about his activities. He puts Gabe in his place as well making sure that he’ll never question his authority and report anything to Jo in the interview by saying that “he would never waste his own time”. He also reads into Jim who is attempting to lead this whole effort and forces him to answer his own questions, making sure that he also never reports anything back to Jo who specifically enlisted Jim to lead this effort. Left with no plausible candidates (and assumed poor interviews from others), Robert finally reads Dwight (to his disliking) and manipulates him by immediately reading into his character and making sure that he gets the call. This is his foot in the door.

After getting the call, to most-likely his own surprise that his overzealous confidence worked, he shows up on Day 1 and decides to take things even further seeing how easy this was by going next for the CEOs job. As soon as he arrives and meets Jo Bennet (off-screen but assumed), he immediately understands that he’s only stumbled upon a small branch of a company that can be manipulated and not an entire company, so he decides to bring things back down a notch. Guessing that he can easily manipulate anyone else remaining in the office that he hasn’t interacted with through the interview process, Robert returns to Scranton to lay claim that he’s been appointed as CEO by Jo and he’s to work out of the Scranton office only. This is why he works out of the conference room because he would never be able to clear the construction of an office without raising flags.

Whenever I replay the game I always have a certain way I play Connor’s story.

I don’t have it in me to keep Connor a machine so I always go with the option of making him a deviant. But the way I go about it is always constant. Obviously I get as many Software Instabilities possible but I also know that despite being described as this perfect prototype, Connor isn’t perfect. I like to believe he’s still make mistakes. And those mistakes would shape his character and make his deviancy more fluid.

So in the beginning like say when he saves the life of that cop on the roof in the very first chapter I feel he would save his life but that is due to him being on the side of humans and less on the androids. His focus while still being on Emma, he would still also focus on the cop.

And when faced with the choice to shoot the Traci’s at the Eden Club I’d think in that situation he would very likely shoot them in self defense. And when questioned by Hank if he was afraid to die, Connor would say no, because during that time he really isn’t scared of death because he still has the mind of a machine and therefore isn’t scared to die.

Then during the Public Enemy chapter, that kindness he show that cop he saved would come back around in a positive way where the cop thanks Connor and furthers his deviancy, just a tad.

At the same time, I also chose to have Connor go up on the roof to find Simon. I know Simon fans will disagree with me but for me, who always chooses the no option whenever Hank asks Connor if he’s afraid to die, I think it’s a great way to make Connor actually believe that. Because now he’s genuinely afraid for the end of his own existence that he also starts to really understanding other deviants and the emotional impact it leaves on them and therefore would also further his deviancy

And then in the Meet Kamski chapter and I to no surprise picked to not shoot Chloe. Because whereas he shot the Traci’s out of self defense, and part of his programming, at that time he simply saw his kind as machines in the beginning of the game.

He made an traumatizing, emotional connection with Simon seeing his death and therefore is starting to see them as alive, hence why he called Chloe “she” instead of “it” for the first time in the entire game and why I think he would chose not to shoot her. Because now he’s fighting with his original programming because now he’s starting see them as more then just machines.
