I was looking at one image of the mural behind Compuware and noticed the beams sticking out of the roof. Did the original designs include a taller tower but it never worked out b/c of the economy, etc? I'm guessing similar to the garage next to the Book Cadillac - which was engineered to have a later structure added on top at a later date? (edit) which is currently happening right now. If this is the case, curious if and when anything will happen with that tower before any of Gilbert's Capital Park or other developments start off. see [here] (http://cdn.cstatic.net/images/gridfs/555f5d60f92ea12a58007823/muralcomplete.jpg)
No sources other than guess work. but just curious.
Were you guys there? I have some footage of it but nothing worthy of posting.
A minute before midnight, cars encircled the entire campus, every car seemed to be hitting their horn. People hanging out of car windows filming and screaming. People on the rink getting to the side to pull their phones out or get close to their loved ones. It became a positive-riot of sound, glee and cheer. It was like a mini NYC for a couple minutes. Then the countdown starting from 10, it was harmonious and not like I expected. Then it was 2020 and all the horns were laid on continuously, people screaming from cheer, cars revving engines, people on the rooftops and windows shouting out. I had goosebumps from the community that welcomes the New Year.
Cheers Detroit, it was the best New Years I ever spent. I used to live in new center and I frequented downtown. My gf and I decided to go downtown for the evening and walked around the town. It was super nice, cold but nice. We also saw a bunch of people risking warmth for fashion instead of function. Just wear a jacket people!
Where were you at in the city when the clock struck 12?
Hey all. Any idea if the shops near Campus Martius are open tomorrow (Monday)? I think they are called. Downtown Detroit Market.
Edit: added Monday
I plan on heading down this evening for dinner and the tree lighting in campus martius. Anyone know if there is a good bar or restaurant that overlooks the park so we can watch comfortably? I've never been for this event, any helpful tips or tricks from years past?
