In the Renaissance the so called Five Good Emperors of the 2nd century Roman Empire is to have brought the Empire to its heights. They were depicted as brilliant and good. That depiction has stayed in the popular consciousness.
But what was the reputation of this dynasty during the Roman Empire itself?
Besides choosing a competent successor to Marcus Aurelius, what could have been done?

Now onto the current contest: To put it simply, anything about the "five good emperors" Nerva, Trajan, Hadrian, Antonius Pius and Marcus Aurelius.
The Nerva Antonine dynasty, or 5 "good" emperors is a dynasty and period in Roman history marked as the empire's "peak", in size, strength, economy and stability. Each emperor emperor is as well known for their relatively stable and long rule.

Examples of individuals who fulfilled a viceregal role, even if unofficially, would be interesting to know, if there were no positions that actually had this recognized authority.
