Painting the mast on a mooring without taking it down. Wish me luck!

Helping a friend with his cruising boat, we are going to try to paint the mast in place, on a mooring. Should be comedy, if nothing else. It's Aluminum, paint has been slapped off by clanging halyards for 2 years while she was unattended.

We did a sample area at deck level, and learned 2 things. We have to sand first (duh) and even the tiniest breeze is an absolute disaster.

Currently the plan is to prep and mask first day, then paint top down very early before wind comes up. We made a cardboard collar (picture a cat's cone of shame) to catch drips, we will move it down every foot or so.

For anyone who is worried about our safety, we already replaced all the stays without lowering the mast, so by comparison this is a walk in the park haha

I'll post pics and keep updating as we go. Wish us luck!
