A list of puns related to "Mestizo"
thoughts and opinions on this? i posted on a different sub about my heritage (i am ndee and black, but physically present as just native) and got a comment about how i look โmestizaโ.
as an indigenous woman, i hate being called mestiza, mexican, hispanic, spanish, etc. because it IS NOT me. i identify with my indigenousness stronger than anything else and was raised in an indigenous household, by an indigenous mother, with my heritage constantly surrounding me. i donโt want to culturally associate with the people that colonized my family.
can anyone else relate to this, or share their thoughts?
Does there exist a term for people have mixed ethnic ancestry? What is it called? Or is it term for specific ethnic mixes?
What's the connotation behind the word? Neutral? Or is it negative similar to like 'half-breed'?
I remember when mestizos used to have a lot of unassigned DNA. My DNA test results used to be 52% Native American, 33% European, 8% unassigned. But after the algorithm update, my results updated to 52% Native American, 40% European, and 1% unassigned.
How accurate is this DNA test for mestizos after the update? Iโm asking because I noticed that the European % always went up while the Native American % stayed about the same for mestizo people. I would have expected the European % of some mestizos to go up but not all of them. Also, thereโs not that many reference groups for native Americans as there are for Europeans.
I just think that some of that unassigned DNA got assigned incorrectly as European rather than Native American due to the reasons I just mentioned above. But Iโm not sure.
Note: Native American would be indigenous American. Back in the day, that group used to be labeled as Native American instead of indigenous American
It's something that I have been very interested in doing for a long time. Recently, I attended an ayahuasca ceremony in Ecuador and after talking a bit with the shaman, he highly suggested that I visit El Casa Del Yage in Colombia. He said that I could learn with them. Curious to hear if anyone has suggestions or an idea of what the experience would be like?
