A list of puns related to "Amerindian"
I say this because the last Charrua family was sent to a human zoo in France image
I've been reading a lot of Amazonian and Andean ethnography recently and entheogens like ayahuasca and San Pedro are ubiquitous. I'm wondering if areas further south than the those in which these and other entheogens one frequently encounters in the literature also saw traditional use of entheogens by local populations. If so, what were they and how were they used? Would non-local entheogens like the aforementioned be available in areas where they didn't grow through long-distance trade? Did shamans control their use and administer them as medicine or aids to magic as in the Amazonian and Andean contexts, or did their ritual use differ? How did colonial authorities respond to their use? Are any entheogens in use by Indigenous people in these areas today?
I know some in the black community feel Asian Americans were living off them and not putting money back in the community which started the Anti-Asian American racism thing. The killling of Latasha Harlins contributed to it and it was most definitely murder, as confirmed by two witnesses and security camera footage of the incident. But for anyone that thinks Asian Americans are wrong for not putting money back in the black community that is flat out wrong. Asian american businesses in black neighborhoods increase the economic activity of the area and therefore are good for that area. The businesses Asian Americans set up provide value and increase the value of the nearby area. Also having been a supporter of Black Lives Matter in the early days Asian Americans I'd say were overrepresented among our supporters.
Asian Americans are helping, not hurting, the black community.
Did they bury their dead close to the river? If they did why?
This thought came to me as I was reading John Robert McNeill's Mosquito Empires: Ecology and War in the Greater Caribbean, 1620-1914. Despite having a population of between 40 and 70 million people, with a few notable densely populated urban centers, there doesn't seem to be any standout diseases which hindered European colonization efforts. The disease transfer seems to be largely one-way, with smallpox and whooping cough devastating the local population and paving the way for European settlement.
Compare this to large portions of Africa, which were largely protected from colonization until measures against malaria were developed in the late 19th century. Malaria and yellow fever were of course important in the Americas, but these were imports from Africa. Where are the native diseases?
I have seen references to this. This is not Peoples Temple, but something else circa late 1800s/early 1900s but I am not able to find any details online.
Hello guys, I always fall in love with the dedication Civ players have to create mods that add Native American civs to the Civ series games, but it always seems boring to me that almost all of them are from North American nations, and obviously disregarding the Mesoamerica and the Andes, the spotlight of native nations always seems to be there. Of course, I am not saying that representing the nations there without having is that of other places is "wrong", far from it they deserve to appear, they have their own trajectories and dramas like any other nation in the world, and I also do not blame not having these unrepresented South American (non-Andean) peoples, the way Civ needs leadership to have a civ leaves any inclusion of a native South American nation difficult to be "historically true".
But... in Humankind things are different, and faction creation does not depend on having a strong leader figure, this greater flexibility allows adding them without any problem.
Anyway, as you will see in the thread title, my intention here is to explore what types of cultures from the Brazilian territory could be implemented in the game, I just do not extend the area to the rest of South America because in relation to the cultures I will comment on here, I am not a person who is an expert on the subject, how much more I would say about that of other countries that I do not know the history perfectly. Well, I could end up talking nonsense but I will leave my opinions of what could be done to include them, because I want to know your opinion on this subject, so let's start:
The Tupis together with the Guarani (which I will talk about next) are probably the most well-known Amerindian cultures in Brazil, having part of their vocabulary and names still existing in Brazilian Portuguese today, they existed throughout the Brazilian coast at the time of discovery from Brazil, in a curious way even with all this geographic area, they all spoke the same language (the "Lingua Geral" which was a lingua franca in Brazil even with the Portuguese colonizing for a long time), it is credited that they dominated the region traveling from the north coast to the south in different sequences of migration generating some curious situations in which Tupi tribes tens of kilometers away used the same word with the same meaning to refer to themselves (as the name Tupina

Bonus: some LDS believers will believe that this settlement is one of cities mentioned in the Book of Mormon, while some others will view as a lost Roman, Carthaginian, etc cities. Of course, some of the ancient astronomer theorists will say "it's aliens."

I am a mixed-race person who has Native American/Native Mexican ancestry (from an an interracial marriage; yes I'm talking about the only kind of interracial marriage the TSCC doesn't discourage). For years I believed I was part Israeli because of the "natives are lamanites" bullshit doctrine I was taught. I really LOATHE how the TSCC basically hijacked my race's history to make it all about them.
