Meninism=Feminism ๐Ÿคก

Haha, noย is the most sensible answer. Some guy I know:ย "THerE's a wOmeN's RIGhtS mOvEmeNT??? Why iS theRe nO MEn'S RiGHT'S MoveMENt fOr Me???" Me:ย facepalmx9000 zomg stahp It's pathetic. It's like having a house and seeing someone move in next door and then sayingย hang on, I want a house too!ย Why should they get a house and not me?

Feminism is the belief that women are human beings and deserve equal rights and opportunities as men. It was started over 100 years ago when women lacked basic rights, like bodily autonomy, property rights, the right to vote or hold political office, and more. They were one step above slaves. Since then, feminism has achieved many great things and its goals have shifted. In many secular and western nations, the goals have moved from legal rights, which are still lacking in many areas, to social opportunities and cultural sexism thatโ€™s embedded in our culture.

Meninism is not equal to feminism because it isnโ€™t a thing. It doesnโ€™t have goals, leaders, and has never accomplished anything. At best, itโ€™s feminism and wants the same thing (equality between genders), but just has a different name becauseโ€ฆ.I guess they donโ€™t like the name feminism? At worst, itโ€™s a sexist ideology where men, angry at losing their power and privilege over women, start a reactionary group where they try to put women down to get their โ€œrightsโ€ back. Neither one is a good look.

"Feminism is for the betterment of all humanity by promoting equality for women and on the other hand, meninism is men throwing a temper tantrum because theyโ€™re losing their powers and privileges".

[effort] The world of /r/france, chapter IX: Another combopost: islamophobia, gynophobia, victim blaming, and meninism.

/r/france being a french subreddit, you don't hear much about it on SRS. I thought I should effortpost about them every now and then, as I loathe how french people who arrive on reddit get greeted by the cesspool of hate that is this subreddit. Basically, I'm documenting their upvoted hateposts, so I can show people what I mean when I criticise the sub.

Got a mixed bag of a bit of everything this time. There's just too many shitlords in there, you can pick any hate related topic and you're pretty sure it's going to pop up in the sub with plenty of upvotes. Luckily there's a moderation team, right? That's what they're here for, riiiight?

Part one: A teenager went on an islamophobic rant online, now she doesn't feel safe going back to school [+220]

Important component to this story: The very day this was in the news, she made an apology video that looked very heartfelt, in which she said she simply didn't know about the lives and issues of muslims in France. It was well recieved, well relayed by the media, and kind of a feel good story overall. Guess which story /r/france liked the most though? The part where she got a few death threats online, of course. Who cares about the learning experience and the feel good ending.

Top comment [+255]

> She should request asylum in another country since France isn't capable of protecting her.

Migrant hate, here we go.

Second top comment [+153]

> [quoting the news article] "โ€ฆbefore calling out muslims "the Quran is full of hate, islam is shit"" - Learn what words mean, stupid journalists.

Clearly, when you're attacking islam, you're not attacking muslims. It's just a lil deluge of insult towards your holy scriptures, surely it can't be by extension an attack against your faith! It's ok! We good!

Third top comment [+138]

> "There is no issue with islam in France" sup /r/merdeinfrance

/r/merdeinfrance is a shitredditsays for french subreddits, but small and not well curated. This comment basically means "We hate muslims and we don't care about being quoted sayin

[effort] The world of /r/france, chapter VIII: Four in one combo - racism, meninism, classism, and misogyny.

/r/france being a french subreddit, you don't hear much about it on SRS. Basically, I'm documenting their upvoted hateposts, so I can show people what I mean when I criticise the sub.

It's been a year since my last one, and today is my 12th reddit cake day thing, so I thought it would be an appropriate time for a nice four in one combo post about how much the official french subreddit still is a shithole, and sadly still is the landing page for french people on Reddit. I'll try to keep it shorter than usual, by just translating the tpo comments of a few posts with no extra explanation. Straight to the point.

Part one: Do you think americans are obsessed with the concept of race? [+66].

Yep, that's the title of the thread. You can tell where this is going. Sadly the body got deleted, but there's a few comments left to get a feeling of what this is all about.

Top comment [+84]:

> The difference is that France is historically universalist. To us, equality is "erasing" our differences, considering that we are all equal, all the same regardless of our origins. We talk about being integrated in french culture, and "race" is just a secondary, cultural, trait, which should not be suppressed but does not define us as individuals. [...] In the USA, you are "African American", not just American [...]

Second top comment [+60]

> Oooooooh yes! But don't worry, sheep that we are, we have already started to imitate and it's working really really well: race but also gender, age, sex. All's good to divide people and sort them into a tiny box. Divisions and wars don't happen between people these days, but between each other. I think that society has become impossible to live in nowadays, but some seem to enjoy it.

Third top comment [+22]

> [...] Talking about Black Panther, remember when it came out and people in the USA loved

Do we need "Meninism"?

TL:DR ; Feminism and intersectionality have helped women a lot, why can't we have a male counterpart (that isn't just anti feminist) to talk about male exclusive issues?

Before you shoot, I don't mean the already existing version. I'm talking about a complete parallel of feminism in definition for males.

For clarity, I define feminism as "The pursuit of ending sexism from the female perspective". I feel having a male version would help bring about the end of sexism.

The main problem I see is that men don't wanna talk, we've been told to bottle stuff up and "be a man". This has resulted in male rape/sexual assault being a joke, the high suicide rate, and intersectionality and how toxic masculinity can be affected or even influenced by it.

I know feminist go into this explaining it with patriarchy but, with a lot of fear for what I'm about to say, that kinda sounds like women talking on issues they don't experience. Now I'm not saying women don't suffer because of it, but they wouldn't be able to experience it, as I'm not able to experience a women's POV.

What I'm trying to get at is I feel feminism is in a decent place right now and widely accepted, now can we try and address some male issues? I feel not having this is harmful because just having a banner can help us expand into intersectionality and see all caveats of men rather than seeing them as a monolith. How are we going to end sexism when we focus on one genders. So instead of having feminists and the current meninists (who I have trouble believing aren't just anti feminist), we have a group of people tackling issues such as the glorification of the revenge rape of males in pop cultures which mainly affect men whilst feminist table issues such as the blatant victim blaming of female victims.

The reason I was even thinking about this is because as a black male, they're are many issues exclusive to both my gender and race, but the combination brings in even more issues but I they are not mutually exclusive. All this combined and I receive little of to any male privelage.

An example of what I'm talking about. I was talking to someone who believed that women should be super cautious of all men (which is mostly true). But then I pointed out to them that their logic was harmful because as a black male, I can't walk around shop without being escorted, would they also be super cautious of me or would that be considered racist? This is where I feel a meninism would help clear up the confusion and poss

Women, think of the men in your life, do you feel the suppress their emotions, donโ€™t accept their emotions as much as you do, are afraid of expressing emotions?

Men, do you feel you donโ€™t discuss your emotions as much as you would like to, are you open to discussing your emotions, how often are you asked about your emotions?

Please tell me any information you would like! Open to all questions and discussion surrounding this topic! All discussion will remain anonymous and your name will not be used!

So about meninism I thought it was a spoof of men's right's activists and all the tumblr caliber feminists just didn't get the joke. But now I'm not sure. Is it actually just a terribly named pro men's movement? Or was it a parody men's rights movement that the MRA's didn't understand and just took over? Somebody explain this to me.
