A list of puns related to "Lady of the Dunes"
This phenomenon is known as many paws
So I have recently begun my reading of Children of Dune, but itβs been a little while since I read Messiah so I may be hazy on certain plot points. It seems that at the outset of CoD Jessica and Alia have become enemies. What Iβm wondering is why, and how this came to be? I canβt remember if this was established in Messiah. Or maybe thereβs a line in CoD that answers this and I just missed it?
In any case I def thought it was interesting that Jessicaβs attitude toward her daughter had changed so much. She had initially (in the first book) defied the Bene Gesserit and embraced Aliaβs βdifferencesβ but by the start of CoD it seems like sheβs more or less in-line with the Bene Gesseritβs view of Alia as an βabomination.β I vaguely recall tension between them in Messiah but donβt really remember where we left off with that at the end of that book.
TL;DR prob should reread Messiah, but dammit Iβm already invested in the next book
More Angry Binaric screeching
Admittedly I only read Dune for the first time a couple of months ago(after hearing about the cast for the film), but any time I looked up something about Dune, so much of the iconography seemed to be attached to the Lynch film.
I've seen clips from the film over the years, and....I just don't like it. That was one of the reasons why it took me so long to read the first book. I think David Lynch is a great filmmaker, but it's kind of shame that the aesthetics of this series(at least in pop culture) is attached to his film. A lot of action figures, shirts, posters, fan art...a lot of it is bent off his film.
When I read the book, in my mind the characters and world looked completely different from what I've seen of Lynch's film.
So it's exciting that we are going to get an entirely new aesthetic. Something that will allow Dune as a pop culture artifact to detach itself from the Lynch film.
And if you like the Lynch film, nothing wrong with that! I'm just excited to see new versions of these characters!
I really liked the first one and the second a LOT. I still thought Children was good but had more trouble caring about the plots within plots within plots and also how Leto 2 was more subversive as a protagonist.
I thought GEoD was not good but I didn't think it was terrible.
Heretics I just am going to stop with. It's a little bit cringe inducing when every female characters breasts are described upon their introduction.
The sex stuff in it is a big no bueno and i think it's a wrap for me.
