Old IRC (internet relay chat) DBZ game ?

I remember like 10-15 years ago using IRC and I saw some DBZ fighting animated game which could have been played via IRC. I didn't have the opportunity to try it but it was sprite based, with tiny pixelated DBZ characters. Maybe it was just a kind of generated animation, in a small separate window (I don't know). Anyone remembers it? What was it called? Where or when I could have seen it?

UT Austin Internet Relay Chat chatroom

Heya folks

Long time ago, I created an IRC chatroom for UT students and alumni, I thought I'd advertise it here in case anyone wants to hang out there -- it's #utaustin on freenode (irc.freenode.net)

If you don't know what IRC is, it's an old way to chat (usually used by computer programmers, kinda like Slack). If you don't have an IRC client configured, you can use this link to directly join the chatroom:

https://kiwiirc.com/client/irc.freenode.net/#utaustin

-- A.S., spent way too long at UT.

Yes that's still a thing ;) Here's a link to the chat in case you missed the announcement. (If you prefer to not keep the tab in your browser, Hexchat is a reliable lightweight client. If you use hexchat connect to irc.dal.net and then /join #skyrimmods).

I've seen a lot of you pop in, ask a question, and then leave before anyone can answer it! and it makes me sad :(

UESP says it best, as usual: "...when you ask a question please be patient. People in the room do not spend 100% of their time waiting for questions and may not notice that you have asked one for a while."

Please, join us! But please remember we don't sit there and stare at the chat, awaiting a newcomer.

And feel free to hang out and chatter, or help out other people! The more the merrier, and not all the talk has to be about Skyrim ;)

Pebble >= Internet Relay Chat.

For those of you that love the good ol' days of irc or AOL online. I just found out that IRCcloud will work with the pebble. For those that are not familiar with IRC... It's basically a place to chat, and you can register your name on an IRC server. IRCcloud will keep you logged in so your chat log doesn't disappear when you don't have internet.
It's perfect timing because I registered an IRC chat channel for my Java class, and now I can get watch notifications if someone needs help or just wants to branch out and be in that "dev brainstorm.". It's a learning curve if you have never learned IRC, but it's a great way to get directly in contact with other devs in many different languages.
Here is a link to IRCcloud... I can't wait for my pTimeSteel.Silver(); https://www.irccloud.com/

IRCcloud runs on android and iOS.

[CLASS] Internet Relay Chat (IRC) Microcourse

IRC or Multiplayer Notepad

This will be a short (one week) microcourse (or seminar?) on the popular IRC protocol. Internet Relay Chat is a protocol on the Internet to trasmit messages in which the naive will refer to as "chat rooms" but are really "channels". These aren't insipid sewers full of preteens and cybersexers, however, but places where long frienships are formed, where you can recieve support for many types of software, and where social movements online are coordinated. IRC channels are often populated by tech-savvy individuals, and aren't normally for children. I liken IRC to the undercurrent to the web, where the communities are and where the movements grow.

A simple protocol, learning it will teach you the fundamentals of the client/server model, will make you more comfortable with using the command line, and will make you a better communicator and faster typer. You will also learn how to use it to recieve support for software from the creators themselves. Primarily, it is the first step into integrating yourself with the tech community.

In this course I will teach you

How to connect to an IRC server and channel

How to choose the right client for you

Basic commands

DCC

How to use IRC services (Nickserv, Chanserv, Botserv, etc)

How to set modes (that is, how to configure your channel)

How to run a channel

Privacy and safety

The history of IRC

IRC culture (guidelines, expectations, bots, hierarchy, asking for advice, slang, etc)

After this course, you should be able to run a successful channel for anything. For your favorite band, for your group of friends, for your company, for your forum or subreddit. If you are like me, you'll be addicted to IRC for years to come.

This will be a very short, easy, and fun course, with high payoff.

Only if enough people show interest. Will be semi-live, I guess.. No video, but I will teach you in IRC channels, and will also use static webpages.

Any interest?

How would you visualize participating with existing IRC (internet relay chat), text chat during streams, and message board conversations while in virtual reality?

Today I was thinking about this old problem. You are in virtual reality (Virtual Desktop, VR Chat, Janus VR, Half Life VR the role playing game, what ever). The VR program you're in allows you to participate with things like commenting during Twitch streams, watching an Internet Chess event or reading a message board on Reddit. Most other users experience these on a 2D monitor as text on screen, maybe with a name and an image avatar displayed by the writing.

Aside from the easy answer of displaying a 2D screen on a virtual wall which we can already do, how do you imagine virtual reality making this a more engaging experience since you have the benefit of the virtual?

Internet Relay Chat - Experience with VR Chat and Janus VR suggests this should be straight forward. A server would be needed to translate the IRC into fake users in addition to relaying your text chat from VR back to the channel. The server can generate fake avatars and assign the avatars the nicknames on the chat server. The text chat they type will just appear above their heads. Fancier type of programming can have the avatars react to whoever is typing, move avatars closer that appear to be chatting with each other or use each other's name. Beyond that, treat it like VR Chat with environment or location settings for atmosphere.

Chess, Card, and other game servers While it's been a decade I remember fondly playing Go and Chess on these servers. Some programs offered graphical interfaces which made me think about VR interfaces in similar ways. An extension of what the IRC translating server does, but this needs to take account of displaying the game elements as well. An arena with large displays on the wall while the audience text chats amongst itself should make for a fun experience.

Live Video Streams These would be like the board games, though it's a small matter of displaying video stream in multiple viewable locations. If the player's faces are in a consistent location of the screen, the server translator could place that video portion on Avatars representing the player(s).

Video Chat Think Skype and some other types of streams. Like above with game streams, putting the user's video feed on the face of an avatar makes for an interesting interaction. For conferences, this allows you in the virtual world to put the users around the table or circle for you. They see people on a screen, you see a group conversation.

Message Boards YouTube, Reddit, Facebook, etc. (

IRC for Jeepers - Internet Relay Chat

Hey there guys and gals ... some of you know but it looks like a lot don't. There is an IRC channel that is being hosted for /r/jeep that is pretty quiet right now. I have talked with /u/kiriesh about inviting the other subs /r/jeepcj, /r/civilianjeep, and /r/classicjeep and he has approved the invite.

For those of you that don't know what IRC is ... in it's most basic definition it is just another chat room. Thanks to modern technology it can be much more but it isn't necessary.

/u/kiriesh has a good sidebar post with info and links that you might want to look at to be able to access the room. In his post there is a link to the web based client but for a more robust experience I recommend using an actual client like AdiIRC.

The service that the room is on isn't one of the more well known servers out there so if you use a client you will have to add all of the information to get connected. The servername is irc.mibbit.net and it is recommended that you use your Reddit username and your IRC nickname ... that way everyone has an idea of who they are talking to.

Right now there are only a few of us in the room but we stay connected nearly 24/7 and sit idle. If you need help connecting feel free to comment on this post or shoot me a message.

Hope to see more of you there soon :)

Is it possible to get an irc(Internet Relay Chat) channel for this subreddit?

Having the subreddit is cool but having a place where people could chat live would be an added bonus. Plus there are websites where you can connect to IRC through your browser, so you won't even need to install a program. You can even access IRC through your mobile.

I have no idea about how one would go about getting a channel on IRC though. There is an IRC subreddit and some other subreddits do have an IRC presence.

ADDENDUM:-

Although I (sort of) made an exmuslim channel on the freenode network, GINGster suggestion of using the CEMB(Council of Ex-Muslims Britain) IRC room makes more sense.

This is the link to the room (''Note: The chat is usually most active during night time in Europe'')

Their server is irc.mibbit.com and channel is exmuslim.

Firefox users can install an addon- Chatzilla to log on to IRC from their browsers.

Apparently Opera has an integrated IRC client.

You can also log into IRC outside of your browsers by using programs like:-

MIRC- Trialware

IceChat IRC Client- free

Or through many other IRC clients listed here

For those who surf the web using their mobiles, check out this link

Here are some basic IRC commands one should know. It's easier than it looks.

Does anyone know of any active Christian IRC (Internet Relay Chat) channels?

Hello!

First off, I'm posting this here because I've found r/reformed to be far more theologically-conservative and spot on with doctrine and biblical faithfulness than r/Christianity.

Anyways, for those that don't know, IRC is Internet Relay Chat, a network of chatrooms located in a number of various servers. IRC can be accessed through a particular server's web interface (like a 'chat' section on a server's website) or through a client (such as mIRC). I'd like to ask if anyone knows of any active Christian IRC channels? I ask because I'm a big IRCer, but the most active servers/channels I've found are quite hostile to biblically faithful Christianity. I've been mocked and derided more times than I can count, and even run out of a channel at one point, for refusing to back down from being steadfast and loyal to my faith. Things are okay 90% of the time, but it would be great if I could find an online community of Christians to interact and commune with. I know, there's this sub-reddit, but lots of the time I'm reluctant to post because whenever I do post here, I want it to be a very substantive and constructive post. Basically I want to do this sub-reddit justice. Anyways, with regard to Christian IRC, I've tried google, but most of the channels I've found there are dead and not active at all - you go in, say 'hello', and two hours later someone responds with 'oh hi'.

Hope this isn't a stupid question, but I'm hoping you guys can help out :)

Reminder about the /r/polyamory Internet Relay Chat

Come visit us at #reddit-poly on Freenode IRC.

Freenode has a webchat IRC client you can use to get on channel from your browser, but you'll have a better time getting a real IRC client (an IRC app, in other words). For example, Colloquy for Macs, iPads, and iPhones, or Android IRC for Android, or irssi for Unix/Linux.

Connect to irc.freenode.net and join #reddit-poly

Don't just say hi and leave right away if there isn't a conversation going on right then! A bunch of us are on the channel all the time, but not always at our computer or looking at that window. If you say hi and it's quiet, leave yourself on channel for a while and check back; someone will probably notice and answer, and once a couple of people start talking, others will join in.
