What are some "hidden curriculum" topics you wish your school or workplace would share with you?

I'm a people leader, and I've been learning more about accommodating neurodivergent and/or disabled employees. I'd like to help new-hires feel more welcome on my team by making sure we've covered topics they may struggle with. Things like "It's ok to wear headphones all day if you're feeling overstimulated - how would you prefer your teammates and I approach you with needs?" or "It's not something that we ever made a formal rule about, but in general, this team naturally gravitates towards business casual attire. HR policy is that you can wear "casual" attire, but you might stick out on this team if you lean casual."

I'd prefer to make this training curriculum applicable to all employees, so that no one feels like they need to disclose their neurodiversity or disability to me first. I'd like to hear from y'all - what are some things a leader could discuss up front to help you be more successful, and help you navigate a new environment more comfortably?

The Hidden Curriculum in The Field of Attitude and Values - A Case Study

The Hidden Curriculum in The Field of Attitude and Values - A Case Study

Abstract: The hidden curriculum is that set of implicit messages relating to knowledge, values, norms of behavior, and attitudes that learners experience in and through educational processes. This study is administered to find out what kind of hidden curriculum Police Education in Turkey has except for the official curriculum.

The hidden curriculum is a complex term thus, not easy to study. Both qualitative and quantitative methods are conducted in this research and designed as a case study. The population was selected as follows: attitude questionnaires on school, profession, and branch were conducted to 574 cadets. A purposive sample was selected according to the values of questionnaires. As a third purposive sample, lecturers were selected. Data collection tools include Likert-scale type questionnaires which were developed by the researchers about the school, profession, and branch, letters written by cadets, and interview papers for cadets and lecturers. Mean, standard deviation, and correlation analysis was utilized to analyze the quantitative data and content analysis was utilized to analyze the qualitative data.

According to the findings of the study, lecturers share experiences and attach importance to self-expression. Findings gathered from cadets are consistent with their lecturers. The outcome of the all findings of this research, it is possible to say that these findings are more consistent with the functionalist perspective comparing with others.

Key Words: Hidden Curriculum, Official Curriculum, Value, Police Education, Police Training

"Hidden Curriculum"

So, this is going to be a rough exploration of something I've been contemplating throughout my adult life and some conclusions I've come to. I'm going to get right to the point and then meander a little and come round about to my conclusion. (EDIT: I failed at getting right to the point)

I have a Leftist / progressive family, and I as a post-left / green-anarchist have found myself arguing with them more than ever since the beginning of Covid-19. Sadly it reminds me of how my father and his brother argue, the one who generally watches Left wing media, the other who generally watches Right. With my father and his brother I've always felt they are being manipulated against each other. I try to be the mediator and basically say, "you're both being lied to, the truth is more complicated than your sources of news will ever tell you, so love each other and stop arguing". Now with my arguments with my brother and sister, and the little slights and accusations that come with those arguments, I've had to question my own priorities in politics vs. relationships.

First of all, I want to explain my first and foremost priority as a post-left anarchist. I don't exactly adopt that label as an all encompassing label, just as the Tao explain that the Tao is nameless, it could be named by the feeling you get from passing clouds or the adorable movement of a caterpillar or the stoicism of a buck, it's just there and will always be there for all those who walk the earth, not just human. This is why I tend to be anti-academic. My favorite allies tend to be non-human. "The animals are rebels" I like to say. Basically the most important tool we have to fight is spirit (on that note I think this forum could use more poetry). "We are the mountains".

But on a personal level during Covid-19, my courage and my faith in spirit is failing me. I feel constricted, and under attack. All of a sudden I have more in common with Right wing people than Left (I nearly moved to Idaho). I have been asking myself constantly, What the actual fuck? How do I combat this? My thoughts have become more Stirneresque than ever before: The state is a spook, the media is a spook, the restrictions are spooks, the debates are spook contests, history is a hodgepodge of spooks, idealism in the future is a spook........................... ? More than ever, I am aware of the lies coming from mainstream media and social media and then parroted by people around me. More than ever, the loud siren of narrative is

Education Game: Teaching Hidden Curriculum and Structural Functionalism

Hello, I was graduated from Sociaology (BA) in last June. I am, now, preparing for MA applications. I need a game that is played to gradeschoolers and teens in the school. The game should include and teach the structural functionalism and hidden curriculum from the perspective of Marxist view. It can be an online or a face-to-face game, I need your help when creating this game, any advice is accepted.

I can define structural functionalism and hidden curriculum briefly.

"Structural funclionalism sees society as a structure with interrelated parts designed to meet the biological and social needs of the individuals in that society."

"Hidden curriculum refers to the unwritten, unofficial, and often unintended lessons, values, and perspectives that students learn in school."
