A list of puns related to "Herpetology"
My secret Santa this year has some leopard geckos but I donβt know her very well. I donβt really know anything about herpetology and have come here for some advice from those in the know!
Can anyone suggest a really thoughtful gift that she might like? Budget about Β£30/40. TIA!
Dear all!
Currently I am doing my bachelors in Vienna in Biology with specification in Zoology which I will finish in June this year. Sadly it isn't possible to do a specification in Herpetology for the Bachelor degree. However, I really want to study Herpetology for my Masters. So my first question to you all is if someone knows if there is a University with a Herpetology Master program or something like that eg a Zoology Master with main focus on Herpetology. It doesn't where this master might be possible, as I would like to do my Masters somewhere outside of Austria. If somewhere, I'd prefer Australia.
This being said I want to mention that I am a huge fan of Australia. I have been dreaming of going there since I was in High school but never was able to do so. My big dream is to work in Australia after I finish my Masters. This brings me to the second question: does anyone know if it is possible to work in Australia without a postgraduate degree in the Herpetologic field, and if yes, are there recommendations where to ask, what to do and what to keep in mind.
I am fully aware that this post sounds like someone without any idea of working has written it, and it isn't that wrong. However, I really want to get things going. I searched for Universities, studying programs, jobs and a lot more but wasn't really able to find anything useful at all. Not to me at least. So I thought maybe Redditors can help since I made good experiences.
Hopefully this is also the right place to ask!
Looking forward to hearing from you,
sincerely E
Just wondering what people have pursued as a career choice relating to herpetology. I always see people asking what could they become, so instead Iβd like to ask what do you guys do. Thanks!
Iβm an aspiring herpetologist and Iβm very interested in a future in the study, Iβm just not sure where to start. Does anyone have pointers on where/how to learn more or seek a career or work in the field? Universities? Other programs? Iβm not sure how to ask this properly lol
I've paid for the Master Herpetology courses for January. After Christmas, will I be sent a login for the courses? I'm nervous and excited! Thanks for the help!
Let's look back at some memorable moments and interesting insights from last year.

Hope someone also has a heart for reptiles here in this subreddit! I'd like to attend with you so I can purchase Zoomed's most awaited product called reptisun UVB/LED and isopods and springtails for my LGs bioactive vivarium! Lets g!
Gonna pull an all-nighter and since my anxiety usually rises before exams and I canβt sleep, might as well do it. Also, is there a better way to memorize scientific names? Or is it just repetition?
My son is turning 13 and has been wanting to deepen his knowledge of herpetology, but lizards specifically. I am very much into Mycology and have an extensive library of books on fungi. He sees how i study mushrooms and wants to pursue herpetology in the same way. I would like to get him some good scientific resources for his birthday starting with the Audubon for reptiles and amphibians but can you all recommend some other good books for the understanding and identification of lizard species? I want to get three books, with the Audubon being the most basic. The only book we currently have is the golden guide to reptiles and amphibians 1987 edition and he keeps telling me how frustrating it is to constantly borrow my phone to learn the Latin names. Lol.
I am a Bachelor's in Technology Biotechnology graduate from India. I am interested in herpetology and wanted to pursue Masters in Ecology. Looking for suggestions for any good colleges offering Masters in Ecology courses. Thank you
Hello! I plan on starting a herpetology club at my high school, and I needed some possible great ideas for activities or events I could hold at this after school club. Any input or idea is helpful!
Hi everyone! I am a recent college graduate with a BS in Ecology and Evolutionary Biology and Iβm taking a gap year to pursue a Masterβs in a herpetology-minded lab. Iβm struggling to find employment in the meantime related to the subject, and I was hoping to get some advice. I have experience working with salamanders in a lab and some administrative/data entry work. Thanks in advance.
Hey yβall, just wondering if we have an established herpetological society at UIUC and/or any established groups of reptile/amphibian keepers in the area? Or anyone who would be interested in connecting! Iβm a graduate student, I keep and breed multiple reptile species and would love to connect with other reptile/amphibian folks in the area
My daughter (age 13) wants to be a herptologist and I donβt really know where she can study that in the UK. Or whether itβs better for her to study zoology to keep her options open. Any advice is greatly appreciated.
Herpetology isn't about herpes, I ain't looking for no coldsore club. It's the study of reptiles.
I just love reptiles: snakes, lizards, you name it, its cold blooded and scaley I'll probably adore it. I'm Darwin born, but I've never been able to locate a group of people who want to just go out into the bush and interact with reptiles.
I am a uni student, so as much as I wish I could do a zoology course and get out there that way, I can't.
Also, if I could be pointed to anyone who breeds and sells venomous snakes, that'd be a bonus.
Cheers in advance.
Iβm really trying my best to find a job involving the animals I love but none really have a strong supportive paycheck, how does herpetology hold up? Is it a solid career choice?
For the past year or so, I've been becoming more and more interested in reptiles. I love learning about native species, habitats, behaviours, characteristics, etc. I was pursuing a history major for some time, but am now reconsidering cause I barely passed a course and I absolutely hated it. So, I'm thinking that biology/herpetology would be nice. Maybe eventually teaching and demonstrating at a zoo or something.
The thing is, I know that chemistry and math have a place in biology and I'm terrible at both. Like, failing and getting Ds multiple times in high school, terrible.
Would I be setting myself up for failure if I went for a biology degree? The thought of working with reptiles and amphibians for the rest of my life sounds amazing, but thinking about having to take chemistry and math courses again is terrifying. For those of you who have done it, what should I expect?
This is just kind of a happy rant, but today my research meeting was moved to zoom because of the snow so we had our discussion and planning as usual just from our own homes.
Then the three of us starting showing all our various pet reptiles, talking about how we got them and care for them, plus joking around about their personalities. Itβs simply awesome to be with folks who love reptiles! So many people just take one look and move on, but we all took time out of our days to simply enjoy these creatures because we love the animals we research. I just absolutely love reptile folks!
I want to take a course to learn about reptiles, I live in Ontario and so far the only one I've found is a second semester course through Sheridan college vet assistant program. I kinda just want that one course though, does anyone know any programs I could take? Online certification would be okay even, esspecially if it's a legitimate course.
Could anyone steer me in the right direction??
