A list of puns related to "Frozen custard"
Anyone have any recommendations of where to find frozen custard in D.C.? I have already been to Goodieβs in Alexandria and loved it but looking for something closer to us in NW D.C.
Iβve already yelped and googled it myself. I ask because as a child I have a faint memory of getting frozen custard in DC and I canβt seem to find any places to get it in DC.
Molly moon's, salt and straw, and sweet alchemy are all fantastic, but sometimes I just want a nice frozen custard (or even soft serve) with a bunch of mix-ins. For those of you who have spent time in the Midwest, think of Culver Concrete Mixers. Does anyone have any suggestions for where to find something like this? Or are we stuck with Dairy Queen and McDonald's?
Edit: For reference
Genuinely curious as to what everyone's favorite place in town is for ice cream/custard?
hoping this doesn't start a flame war like when people asked about pizza
Where does one find such in Vancouver? Not gelato, not philadelphia style, not yogurt, not hard scoops and certainly not coconut/vegan/oat.
Sugar, eggs and dairy.
Hello everyone,
It isn't often that I get to try out a new restaurant, but I happened to get a chance to try Freddy's Frozen Custard & Steakburgers, which opened last week.
A quick note: This is the first time trying the restaurant. With a good restaurant, consistency in quality of the food is key. I remember T.J.'s being of excellent quality when they first opened, but that quality has certainly not been consistent.
So Jonesboro has another fast food chain restaurant. As a place awash in churches, banks, and fast food joints (especially burger places), I'll admit I was quite skeptical that we needed another one. To be honest, a really good burger is hard to find in Jonesboro, with most being mediocre. There are some great burgers here, including JTown's Grill (the best in my opinion) and Skinny J's, but I have longed for a quality fast food burger like In-N-Out, Shake Shack, or Whataburger - something a step above McDonalds or Burger King but still having the classic American fast food style burger.
The Five Guys here is overpriced and soggy. T.J.'s has an issue with consistency, ranging from excellent to subpar. Most fast food chains are also below par. Steak and Shake, which I had high hopes for when it came here a second time, has reduced its menu, raised its prices, and has seen a slight decline in the quality of its output. RedBeard's Burger Barn came and went like a flash in the pan.
So now we have Freddy's. Much in the style of Steak and Shake, Freddy's features smashed patty steakburgers and a Midwestern inspired menu. Freddy's burgers are smashed in a way that leaves a crusty beef skirt outside of the bun much as in manner of a Jersey burger. Accompanying the burgers are shoestring fries, cheese curds, chicken sandwiches, Chicago style hotdogs, and frozen custard deserts.
That being said, I arrived and pulled into the drive thru. It was a long line (being the new and shiny restaurant in town), and it took about thirty minutes just to reach the point to place my order. The drive thrus starts as you pull off Caraway and wraps around Freddy's parking lot. Longer than the drive thrus for the nearby Taco Bell or KFC, I can appreciate that this design reduces the chance of lunch or dinner crowds overflowing onto Caraway itself. As someone who have been stuck behind numerous people in drive thru queues blocking street traffic (looking at you Shadrach's) more times than I care for, I appreciate this design.
Ordering for myself and my wife,

This is the only thing that helps reduce urgency for me, despite being lactose intolerant AND allergic to eggs. It's hilarious to me, as no other dairy product helps - though milk tea/boba helps reduce pain a bit, but raises urgency since it's...tea. Plain milk? No, just pain, even lactose-free.
Anyone else got mysterious "help" foods?
I've seen people make ice cream and gelato by freezing the mixture for a tiny bit, mixing it real well, and repeating that process over and over. I know you end up with larger ice crystals, but does that matter if I'm just going to make milkshakes out of it?
Iβm an absolute custard connoisseur and just thought how much better it would be frozen. So if you know of any places that sell it , that would be much appreciated.
Iβm visiting and frozen custard is my favorite. Are there any local places I can try? And yes, it has to be frozen custard, not yogurt or ice cream.
Quick question for all yβall: WHY YALL COMING IN 20 DEGREE WEATHER?!? Donβt get me wrong, I love customers, but I have never been more curious. For anybody here who has come by recently: what were you thinking?
By the way, come by Sunday, 12 P.M-10 P.M, Monday-Thursday, 11 A.M-10 P.M, Friday 11 A.M-11 P.M and Saturday 10 A.M-11 P.M. 8075 Macon Road π¨
Ok ok, lets slow down a little bit here. My wife came home from the store yesterday and bought keto frozen custard from a brand call Mammoth Creameries. I had never heard of them. I have tried keto ice cream before from Rebel and a company called KETO. I did not like them. Tasted very artificial and had that KETO aftertaste that a lot of products have. So i just figured ice cream is not in my keto life. I was ok with that. Well well things have changed. Long story short we had an ice cream party last night. Four different flavors (ill rank them below). At first I was pretty skeptical and expectations were very low because of the past experience. The ingredients are pretty damn good, probably the best I have ever seen in frozen custard or ice cream (is custard and ice cream the same thing? Sorry if i am using the words incorrectly).
All the flavors were amazing, and it was so crazy because it really tasted like custard from an old school custard shop. I had a hard time wrapping my mind around that this product had so little ingredients. I am a type 1 diabetic so regardless of what products claims I ALWAYS verify via my blood sugar. I had no insulin in my system (basal only) when i tried the custard and my blood sugar was 103. I probably ate one full pint of ice cream (splitting between the four flavors). after 45 min my blood sugar went to 107 and stayed there for the rest of the night. I went to sleep without giving any additional insulin (bolus) and woke up with a blood sugar of 93.
Just wanted to share this with the group because it is so exciting to me!!! also i have never really posted anything about my keto life and this is pretty fun and after only a few days have learned so many new things.
