ps: I know wizard cant have Healing Word my dm let me learn it because no one can heal in my party
I never see anyone talking about this but i just realised it while looking at possible multiclass options for my Arcana Cleric so i appologize if this is actually well known and i am late to the party. So the main problem i have been having with him in combat is mainly that we only have one other caster, our dm has been focusing more on multiple weak enemies, and almost all of my AOE damaging spells dont distinguish between friendlies. I thought maybe multiclass might hold the key and lo and behold, Evocation wizard might just do that. So now for the nitty gritty. Obviously we are dealing with Sculpt Spells Beginning at 2nd level, you can create pockets of relative safety within the effects of your evocation spells. When you cast an evocation spell that affects other creatures that you can see, you can choose a number of them equal to 1 + the spell's level. The chosen creatures automatically succeed on their saving throws against the spell, and they take no damage if they would normally take half damage on a successful save I never realised that it never specifies wizard spell, doesn't have a limit on its uses, the number of people protected is determined by the spell level and not intelligence or anything like that, and most importantly it doesn't have to be an INSTANTANEOUS spell. Imagine dropping a Blade Barrier in the middle of your enemies and party and now the party can walk through it with impunity while the enemies get shredded. Or dropping a Fire Storm and no longer needing to carefully weave around party members and possibly miss enemies, you can now carpet bomb the whole place and 8 of your allies are perfectly fine. Or, and this is my favorite so far, you can designate your party as being immune to Holy Weapon and essentially have a primed flash bang in the middle of your enemies while not having to worry about blinding your party members. I realise not everyone wants to dip from cleric but for a 2lvl dip this seems too good to pass up and i immediately felt the need to share with you all.
TLDR Cleric with evocation wizard can be incredibly broken for very minimal cost, read above for examples
Joining an Icewind Dale campaign in progress at Level 4. I have planned on playing an Evocation Wizard, but since my character is also a former blacksmith I thought a dip in Artificer would be fun flavor-wise plus the con save proficiency and the extra cantrips and spell list would be appreciated.
Only concern I have is that since I already have medium armor proficiency due to my race, would the dip be worth being a wizard level behind?
Any thoughts or comments are appreciated!
I did the evocation in the bedroom temple. Laptop open with sigil on the altar. Blackout curtain to the North. Various notes and other things also on the altar. Wearing black robes with two tea light candles lit on either side of laptop. It was a good setup for evocation if I do say so myself. The curtains to my South were also closed with just the candles and the salt lamp for light. I had the laptop screen brightness turned down to the minimum.
Each part of the ritual that required chanting for a few minutes I just did 3 times. That's what felt right. The Basic calling at the beginning was satisfying, and even the general opening before that was good as well.
As I progressed through the ritual, I was nervous but not scared. I was surprised that I didn't start playing out horror film scenarios in my head. It's almost like I was watching myself do the ritual, surprised at what I was seeing.
At some point towards the second half of the evocation proper, I heard bird wings flapping (like the sound of a dove being released) for just a split moment to the top left of me towards the ceiling. I reflexively looked up and saw nothing.
As the ritual proceeded, I became genuinely terrified at the possibility of actually seeing an angel manifest in front of me - to any degree. I don't think much longer after this I knew Raziel was present. I tried breathing the 3 qualities of evocation into the room as instructed while thinking Raziel's name, but I knew Raziel was already present. I was extremely intimidated at the thought of experiencing a fully visible manifestation. I'm not really sure why. It was a visceral animal fear. I think I didn't want to run out of the room should this happen and disrespect the angel.
I began to speak my request to Raziel. It felt very comfortable and natural. Like I was speaking to someone who was completely receptive to everything I was saying.
I finished the ritual by vibrating Raziel's name three times as a thank you. After completing the ritual, I had a pleasant sensation in the middle of the forehead. A kind of an enjoyable cool pressure, a little like having the ash cross done on your head on Ash Wednesday. I believe this happened before too, my last ritual, invoking Raziel. I believe I even described it in the same way.
I feel somewhat elated now. I have no doubt at all I successfully evoked Raziel. The moment of presence was obvious. I didn't see anything, but Iβm quite sure this could be accomplished in the future.
Just learned the hard way that if you play Evocation after Secret Passage and your hand is effectively full from the Evocation, it will not bring your cards back you had before playing Secret Passage and the Evocation cards still get dumped at turn end.
Guess the game tests hand size for returning cards before ending the Evocation effect.
I listened to the Glitch Bottle Podcast recently, where both the host and Frater Ashen Chassan agreed that you must have a room for only the purpose of magick. And further, that you must be able to construct all the tools and implements as diligently as from the grimoire they came from. Or else you will insult the spirits and may never be able to evoke ever again.
I wanted to get this communityβs opinion on this. Personally, it sounds like BS. Most of the content inside these grimoires were rewritten from other sources or were stitched together from many others. We all know the telephone game and how poorly that turns out.
Plus, spirit evocation has been performed well in other cultures without the use of any of these grimoires.
That being said, I donβt expect the process to be easy. Nor do I think you should be disrespectful toward the process or the spirits involved. I think dedication counts. But, this regimental thinking kind of throws me off course a little. And it smells of βbuy my product if you want to do it right and if you fail then itβs not my book you just werenβt detailed enough in your work.β
What do you think?

Synopsis
Veronica Crowe mightβve been the Chosen One seventeen years ago, but now she definitely isnβt. Day-drunk and selling stories of the war against the Shadowlord, she hardly remembers she was once a sorcerer. When the consequences of her own poor temper catch up to her, her former commanding officer, Lucien, offers her a lifeline: Teach remedial evocation at Banecroft Academy, the selfsame school for sorcerers she attended as a child when it was little more than a crumbling barrack.
Returning to Banecroft isn't easy. Climbing out of the bottle, even more so. Determined to finally make something of herself-- to not live, mired in the past and the war and the loss of her arm and leg-- Veronica vows to live up to his memory. To be the teacher who sets the exception to the rule for her students, whether they're the spoiled children of highborn nobility, or hopeless lonely orphans-- like she was.
But there are shadows in Banecroft, and things aren't as they seem. Enemies lurk unseen in the banal halls of academia. Unmasking her hidden enemy and keeping her students safe might require the Crowe who killed the Shadowlord, and not the Mistress Veronica who's gotten good at giving lectures.
Content Warnings
Violence. Death. Gore. Amputation. Suicide. War. Childhood trauma. Animal abuse. Racism. Alcoholism. Sexual situations. Lots of cussing. Veronica lives with CPTSD, and the deuteragonist, Tom, suffers from flashbacks and panic attacks. That being said, this is not a grimdark novel about mud, blood, and tank treads, but about hope, loneliness, and the struggle to live up to your better nature.
Feedback Requested
I'm looking for commentary on the story more than I am line editing. Character, theme, and authenticity are what I am looking for the most. Flow, and the quality of prose, is my second most pressing question. Relentless ego-padding is, of course, a distant third.
Feedback Swap
I'm more than willing to extend the same courtesy to anyone up to 15k words above my own piece. Or below. I don't quite care about a timeline (two months would be nice but so would a year's free ice cream sandwiches), but if we swap, I'll endeavor to match your preferred pace.

I've read that a Scrying Mirror is needed for evocation if you are not a medium, but I would need to develop my senses using the mirror before trying to evoke otherwise I would need someone able to scry while I evoke.. Or I just use a pendulum?
Soon im gonna start a new campaing with some friends and I REALLY want to play a blaster wizard, so here we go. But, in terms of roleplay and background, I barely have nothing.
I like the idea of a cute little gnome believing she is dark and powerful, but I need more than that.
Basically I need inspiration for her backstory and roleplay aspects, I was thinking about her working with a secret organization of wizards or something like that, or she carrying a powerful magic item with the objetive of destroying it.
The campaing is homebrew with levels 1-20 btw, is our annual tradition.
Also this is my very first post on reddit!! Sorry if I messed up something!
My elevator pitch is "Bojack Horseman, but instead of 90s TV star, he's Harry Potter (and a woman)."
This is my second go at writing a query, and the first I've shared. Feedback is very much appreciated.

Dear [Agent],
Veronica Crowe mightβve been the Chosen One seventeen years ago, but now she definitely isnβt. Day-drunk and selling stories of killing the Shadowlord to the nobility, she hardly remembers she was once a sorcerer.
When her highborn patron insults her lost comrades, Veronicaβs vulgar reprisal lands her in a jail cell. Her former commanding officer, Lucien, offers her a lifeline: return to Banecroft and take up his torch teaching remedial evocation, or resign herself to debtorβs prison.
Lucienβs unexpected passing gives her no way out.
Veronica sets aside the bottle, rolls up her sleeves, and tries to make it work. Despite the nightmares of the war, or the other faculty members, who consider her a washed-up drunken embarrassment, or the headmaster, Lord Winterbourne, whose disdain for her is palpable, even though she used to consider him her brother. Not to mention Tom Lockwood, the first-year sorcerer without sorcery, sent from the same orphanage Veronica grew up in and star-struck by her former glories.
As Veronica finally balances navigating the ghosts of her painful past with managing a classroom of troubled teenage sorcerers-in-training, she learns that Lucienβs death wasnβt as accidental as it appears.
That the Shadowlord never truly died.
And if the world ends? Nobody gets to walk for their diploma.
REMEDIAL EVOCATION (109,000 words) is the first of a planned low-fantasy quadrology, and will appeal to fans of [comp] and [comp].
[~28-word biography]. This would be my first published work.
Thank you for your time and consideration.

I have made a grave mistake. I caused a human to invoke HIM, I will be dead before I am found by them. I know they will chase me into the afterlife, And they will survive it until they are done.

Report of Humans and The Evocation
If a Human invokes Him remove EVERYONE except the target. and keep key cards passcodes and biometric data (Preferably not the actual person) where it is achievable to collect and then evacuate. NO EXCEPTIONS, Failure to do so will result in Mass Loss of Life
Humans know the Evocation instinctually, we do not know how.
This File is to be sealed.

... keep reading on reddit β‘Hello! Lame title, I know, but but wasn't sure what else to title this without being needlessly verbose. I'm having some trouble finding a post about Lucifer and Ceremonial Magic. I don't plan to ever use that kind of magic, but it was an extremely interesting read and now it seems to have been swallowed by the depths of the internet!
For context, a few years ago (three or more), I was browsing about and came across the blog of a solomonic/ceremonial magician (I am a demonolater/theistic satanist so I was really only there out of curiosity), and found a very interesting post on an evocation he did of Lucifer. It was extremely detailed and beautifully written, and I'd forgotten about it until a friend asked about evoking Lucifer theoretically, and so I went looking, only to be unable to find it!
Details about the blog post: ghee was used. The practitioner had asked a number of questions to Lucifer about his interpersonal relationships, especially related to Michael, and was told that they are not enemies, though they don't see eye to eye. He had an absolutely wild, borderline-trippy first couple minutes(?) to the evocation and the presence was absolutely overwhelming. If I remember correctly, he also used gold Beeswax candles and may have been located somewhere in Asia -- I'm thinking India, but I could be mixing up my memories due to it having been so long ago and having read so much on the topics since then.
I hope this wasn't too disjointed and rambly, I'm just really interested in finding his post if anyone knows of it! It was pretty small, and there weren't a lot of comments at the time, but I would love to find it again. Thank you for the help in advance! If this isn't the place to post this, please let me know where I could! Sorry if it isn't!
came up in a game i lead, an enemy cast charm person on my player who then wanted to throw a fireball but exclude them from the effect with the sculpt spell feature. some arguments that ensued:
1 it wouldn't harm the charmer, so it should be allowed
2 a sorcerer couldn't do it with careful spell because it's still half damage on a successful save
3 it might be okay for a sorcerer to do with careful spell if it's known that the charmer has evasion (or some equivalent feature)
how should i rule this?
I recently discovered this card, [[Wild Evocation]]. It's a six-mana red enchantment that reads: "At the beginning of each player's upkeep, that player reveals a card at random from their hand. If it's a land card, the player puts it onto the battlefield."
This seems like a fun card! I'm not too big on random, "chaos" cards myself, but this is a pretty unusual effect (it's one of the few ways to force someone to cast something), and I started wondering, how best to break parity on this?
I'd had similar thoughts with [[Knowledge Pool]], another six-mana do-nothing (or so it seemed) but Reddit got me going with some fun ideas for that (i.e. not just the "you can't cast spells" combos) and now I play that in a ton of decks. This feels pretty similar. (By the way, Wild Evocation + Knowledge Pool seems like it would be... interesting)
The most obvious way to break parity on this is probably just to have more big, high-mana haymakers. People trying to hold up instant-speed interaction risk getting screwed over by this, whilst you have a much higher chance of dropping an Eldrazi or something. That still seems pretty unreliable to me, though, and what will your plays look like if you can't get this out?
My first thought was to try to empty everyone's hands. If you have nothing in hand, you can't cast anything, so only I will be getting the free spell per turn! However it feels like at that point, you've probably won anyway. Getting a random free spell per turn is a great bonus but you've already sorta staxxed everyone out. I can see you using, say, [[Omen Machine]] and this for lots of randomness, and probably a lot of put-into-hand spells rather than draw spells, but... eh. Also it's not likely to be considered very fun for everyone else - people are still playing cards if you do use OM, but they're playing Snakes and Ladders whilst you actually get decisions.
So it occurred to me that maybe the opposite is the right thing to do - symmetrical draw effects. My current sketch deck for this is [[Nekusar]] with a few "everyone draws" cards, and lots of discard outlets. It has, weirdly, started to turn into Spellshaper tribal, which I think can only be the most awesome thing ever, though it needs some work to say the least. The idea is, everyone has lots of cards in hand, but in your upkeep you throw away everything that isn't a 10 cmc Eldrazi or whatever.
The other thing that sprung to mind was [[Head Games]]. The reasons should be

The basic idea is similar to the Destruction Warlock from Pre-MOP WoW, a lot of fire and negative energy and debuffs going out and Animate Dead to take advantage of cleared enemies. I'm thinking Arcanist might work but the arcane reservoir system confuses me a good deal.
