To what extent did the Jews expelled from England in 1290 retain a distinct identity, culture, or language in their new homes?

The expulsion from Spain in 1492 and the medieval migrations of Jews from the Rhineland to Eastern Europe both created communities with a strong identity (Sephardim and Ashkenazim), notable cultural traditions (e.g. bimuelos or dreydls), and of course languages (Ladino and Yiddish) that have survived to the present day. But I don't think I've ever heard of a similar situation with the English Jews.

Were there "English Jewish" communities in 14th century Europe that eventually assimilated into a local Jewish milieu? How long did they last? Or are there still some around today, and I just don't know where to look?

Isn't it about time to stop pretending that there are just two Jewish diasporal groups? (Hint: Not any Jew from Europe is Ashkenazi; while not any other Jew is Sephardic). Also, "Mizrahi" as a name for the latter Jews (anybody not from European countries/Yiddish speaker) didn't exist till the 1930s.

Since "Liturgy" is not synonymous to "Genetics", a thing that the Jews today sadly do not know, and because the Ashkenazi rite had took over Europe as a whole in the 16th Century (Yiddish replaced many smaller local Jewish languages) while Sephardic rites took over the Oriental World (sans Yemen, mostly); I find myself write this post for any Jews interested. I will mention each diasporal group by their demographic weight:

  1. Eastern European Jews - The Jews who sat from Russia in the East to the realms of the Polish Border are not stemmed mostly/only of the Ashkenazim who settled in Medieval Northern France and Germany. These Jews are recorded to have set all over these lands all along since the 2nd Century AD and have been around and kicking while Ashkenaz was still a functioning Jewish Culture. They are estimated by Cecil Roth in 1969 to be twice (if not more, by others) in size than the Ashkenazim by the year 1500. It may be that they're mostly descendants of Jews who fled from Turkey in the 7th Century and later from Iraq and Persia, where half of the Jews had settled in exile and were mostly found at till the 12th Century AD. There is a reason to suspect some may be of Khazar descent, as well as descendants of locals who married into the Jewish communities throughout the region (as in any Jewish diaspora). The reason why people today have German sounding surnames is that their ancestors have lived under the Austro-Hungarian Empire that forced all it's surnames-lacking residents to adopt names in the German language which the rulership used (the higher you paid, the better name you have got from the clerks; "Stine" and "Berg" were among the cheapest as far as I know, while flowers cost more..) between 1787 to 1831. These folks eventually migrated during the 17th Century and onwards westwards to the other part of Europe and their descendants became part of the newly established Jewish communities in Austria, Germany, France and beyond (Dutch Jews, for instance, were found to be genetically distant as heck from German Jews but closer to both EEJ and Dutch Non-Jews). There are 2 recorded clusters amongst European Jews, one is probably what was the one which stemmed from the historic Ashkenazic (sadly no Archaeogenetic study was conducted that I'm aware of..) and the other is from the Eastern European Jews who adopted the name "Ashkenazim" later on.
  2. Sephardim - The descendant of the Iberian Jews. They were estimated to have been at above 400,000 by

On jews and money in early NYC

So, this is bugging me and I'm just gonna rant about it here.

The article from today's episode about whites disowning whites is missing the class issues at play in Early 20th century American Jewry. The established German Jews were business and factory owners; the poor new Eastern European Jewish immigrants were all proletarian workers. Not to mention that after 1905 THEY WERE GODDAMNED REVOLUTIONARIES. There were thousands of Jewish socialists who came over after the 1905 revolution in Russia. Also, even the non revolutionary groups were radical unionists.

There also wasn't that much of a coreligiousness between them. The wealthy Jews were much more assimilated and reformist, the religious immigrants (many weren't religious but were actually avowed atheists) were much more traditionalists.

EDIT: While some of the German Jews were Sephardim, the vast majority who came after the 1840s were Ashkenazi. At present Im unsure of likelihood of them being Yiddish speaking versus German or English speaking. Also unsure of pronunciation similarities between German Ashkenazi Hebrew vs Eastern European Ashkenazi Hebrew. Anyway, kids, don't write historical posts while you're angry and away from reference documents or a computer.

Read this article: https://sites.temple.edu/womenushist/2016/02/15/the-girl-army-the-philadelphia-shirtwaist-strike-of-1909-1910-by-daniel-sidorick/

Also Jewish Currents has done a lot of reporting on this.

Ashkenazim of Sephardic Origin? Free Sunday meeting with Sephardic World

Many Ashkenazi families have traditions of Sephardic ancestry. Are they true and, if not, what is their origin? David Mendoza and Ton Tielen explore why some Ashkenazi families have the belief of Sephardic origins, and review the claims. What do the archives tell us about Sephardim living amongst Ashkenazim in central and eastern Europe? What about DNA and stories passed down to families? We review the evidence.

https://preview.redd.it/qewr0xq6y4z71.jpg?width=995&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=08f0a4d468d57c35817a4bbda39966b64523bbe3

Several Hassidic dynasties claim Sephardic ancestors. Is the SLONIK family descended from King David, via ABARBANEL? What about the claims of ordinary families? How about the MENDELEVITCH family from Poland which has a tradition of MENDOZA ancestry? Is the TALALAY surname in Belarus of Slavic origin or imported from Catalonia? Are claims of Sephardic ancestry true, fabricated, or misremembered? Join us for an entertaining discussion.

David Mendoza and Ton Tielen are administrators of The Sephardic Diaspora group and the Sephardic Genealogy page on Facebook. They host the weekly Sephardic World talks and are founders of the Sephardic Genealogical Society.

The meaning of Mizrahi and its evolution.

IMHO there are quite a few terms as confusing as Mizrahi, due to its various definitions depending on each context. As it doesnΒ΄t define any actual jewish group/subethnicity, being a word that only gained popularity after israeli independence (i.e), the significant rise of its usage as a defining label in Israel and elsewhere indicates the major impact it has had on newer jewish generations. However, no one used to identify themselves like that - be it ethnically or liturgically -, so its meaning can get blurred fast. HereΒ΄s a couple definitions IΒ΄ve heard of:

  1. The most common of them all: Any kind of MENA jew and their culture (specially food and music). It's also used in socio-political enviroments to specifically mean the many MENA jews who migrated to Israel after its dependence, their trajectory and hardships in the new country - as opposed to old yishuv sephardim -.

  2. A term used to represent MENA jews who werenΒ΄t directly influenced by the gerush sepharad (e.g Temanim, some Toshabim and Amazigh Jews, Mustarabim, Assyrian Jews, Baghdadi Jews, Parsim), as a way to oppose the Sephardi/Ashkenazi dichotomy (even though these groups don't necessarily have something in common besides this fact).

  3. A more literal interpretation, in which "Eastern" means "East of Eretz Israel" (specially those that don't descend from Roman Exile), encompassing Iraqi communities, Temanim, Parsim, Bukhari Jews, Caucasian communities, Indian communities, etc.

My question is, is there any kind of study in the usage and/or evolution of this term? How do people perceive all this?

Ch. 22 The Managers

When Jewish direction of the world-revolution became discernible by the middle of the last century it was direction by the Ashkenazic (Eastern, or Slavic) Jews. The Sephardic (Western, or Iberian) Jews were in the mass strongly opposed to it. It was directed against them as much as against Christendom, for emancipation in Europe had led to a substantial measure of assimilation in their case; they were slipping from the grasp of the ruling elders of Judaism, who were faced with the loss of their power through Jewish integration in mankind. Segregation was vital to Talmudic Judaism, and integration was lethal.

At that point they threw the β€œEastern Jews” into the contest, whose emergence as a separate body of Jews coincided with the start of the world-revolution. Before then the West knew only β€œJews”, and these were the Sephardic Jews. Alluding to the period when Disraeli began to speak of Jewish leadership of the revolution, Dr. Kastein says, β€œFrom this time onwards it is possible to speak of Western and Eastern Jews”. In fact the separate breeds had existed for about a thousand years; what Dr. Kastein means is that the Eastern Jews at that moment emerged as a distinct body, mobilized by the rabbinical government for action against the emancipated Sephardic Jews of the West and against the West itself.

Up to that time the Western Jews had only been dimly aware of these Eastern Jews, and to the Christian West they were unknown. Their cohesion as a mass, and the energy which had been stored up in them by many centuries of rabbinical absolutism in the ghettoes, was to make of them, when they entered the West, the most powerful of all the forces which shaped the events of the 20th Century. They were good material for the purpose to which they were put. Racially of barbaric Asiatic origins, for centuries they had received a Talmudic training in a regimentation as strict as that of any ancient Oriental despotism.

In the grand strategy which unfolded during the 19th Century they were employed for a double purpose, and with skill were used to achieve ends, so contradictory, that their simultaneous accomplishment must have been held impossible, before it came about, by any rational observer. In Russia itself they were used, as a mass, to wreck emancipation (for there would have been no hope of reclaiming the emancipated Jews of Western Europe if these had seen that the Eastern Jews, too, were becoming emancipated). To the outer world they were simultaneously depic

Ch. 21 The Warnings of Disraeli

Benjamin Disraeli, later Lord Beaconsfield, repeatedly warned Christendom against the world-revolution. Like de Luchet, Alexander Hamilton and Edmund Burke fifty years before, he saw "the design" behind it; unlike Lord Acton, who fifty years later spoke only of anonymous "managers," Disraeli identified these organizers as Jews. The century that has passed since he uttered the plainest of these warnings has justified him; whatever its origins, the organized world-revolution was under Judaist leadership by the middle of the 19th Century and continued under Judaist leadership at least until the 1920’s (in the present writer’s opinion the condition continued after that and prevails today).

Why the Talmudic sect took over the leadership of the revolutionary organization established by Weishaupt, or whether it instigated the original revolutionary undertaking, are two questions which cannot be answered today.

If the ambition of Judaic world domination, instilled through the centuries by the Talmud and even more by the Cabala,[1] is ever to be realized the enslavement of "the heathen" to the Holy Nation will have to be accomplished through some destructive organization like that set up by Weishaupt; the fact that Weishaupt founded his Illuminati at the very moment when the Jewish "centre" in Poland sank from sight, after an unbroken life of more than two thousand years, might be more than a coincidence. On the other hand, it is equally possible that the dominant sect for the purpose of Talmudic fulfilment, took over control of a destructive organization already set up by non-Jews for a different end.

Disraeli’s two most significant warnings preceded and followed the revolutionary outbreaks which occurred in many parts of Europe in 1848. Based on the experience gained in France a half-century before, these represented the second of the "eruptions, concocted as occasion shall permit," and "the periodical explosions" which (as de Luchet and Alexander Hamilton had foretold) the world-revolutionary organization was to bring about. They failed everywhere, possibly because the memory of the French revolution was recent enough for governments and peoples to deal resolutely with them. Their suppression left Disraeli in no illusion about the future. He had described what would happen before it occurred; after it, he foretold the continuance of the conspiracy and the recurrence of

In response to "Ashkenazi are closer to italians than they are to middle eastern people"

On another thread I posted my uncle's uploaded 23andme autosomal results with ancient samples from www.yourdnaportal.com which clearly showed half of his autosomal admixture to be of middle east west asian ancestry.

Someone responded with a few K13 models using singular distance option on Vahaduo Calculators, showing Ashkenazi jews to be similar to ancient italics and Romans. However, those "italic and roman samples" which were ancient samples, were closest to Maltese, not generalized "italians" as the person was trying to claim that Ashkenazim did not stem from Middle Eastern Ancestry.

Mediterranean Islanders would have around half of their DNA from west asia, and half of their DNA from sardinian like proxies as well as germanic and celtic / steppe populations. This is why they are somwhat close to ashkenazim.

The reason they are similar, but not the same, is because ashkenazim originated as Authentic Judean Israelites, who were brought from the holy land to Rome under the Empire, and they intermarried with Italian and Greco-Roman woman and converted them, and had children with them. This is why the paternal haplogroups of Ashkeanzi are overwhelmingly J - as well as G (specificaly GM377, the same G that encompasses mizrachim, sephardim, and palestinians, syrians) while the Maternal haplogroup are european in origin (however some are also of middle eastern origin) - and due to the endogamy of ashkenazim, they did not convert much further outside of this initial wave, thus preserving half of the DNA from their roots in the Middle East.

For southern europeans, specifically southern italians, maltese, sicilians, and non-mainland greeks (cretens) - much of their middle eastern DNA comes from various locations -2nd wave of Neolithic Anatolians (not northwest Barcin, but the eastern shifted Anatolian Farmers close to the fertile crescent), Bronze Age Anatolian migrations, Antiquity Phoenician settlements, Arab influences of the middle ages, as well as close proximity to North Africans and Egyptians.

So to contexualize ashkenazim as "being close to italians rather than middle eastern people" heavily ignores that fact that ADMIXTURE and single distances are not the same, and that ADMIXTURE breakdown is just as important, and that population relatedness of ashkenazim to "italians" is really to Mediterranean islanders and southern italians, NOT generalized "italians" which is a broad term and a ignorant argu
