A list of puns related to "Doctor Sleep (novel)"
Its been a while since I read it, but I remember really liking it. Recently I have seen some comments regarding the movie that go along the lines of "The book sucked but the movie was great", i liked the movie too but I dont feel like the movie was bad source material. What do you guys think? Was Doctor Sleep a worthy follow up or did it disappoint you? I might just read it again eventually but I want to hear your thoughts.
Doctor Sleep beat the Shining, in my opinion
It was along journey with Doctor Sleep. Something always I liked about King is his characterization of Kids. No one writes Kids better than King. Their feelings, their dailouges always are lively to me. Thb, This is why I like Kiing.
We started with Dan Torrence followed the same path of his Father with alcoholism. Dan is still hunted by his past, he moved to a new little town to help him recover from the addication.
Later, King introduces "True knot". A vampires cult who feed on something called The steam.
I enjoyed how highly imaginitive Stpehen King, memory boxes and drawers, contacting with each other in chalkboard and the fighting Scene in abra's head when Rose the hat entered her mind.
Something Also I liked is how the story told from the perspective of True Knot (Villains). I mean like along the novel, we draw some empathy for these villains. They kill, because if they don't, they will die (from perspectives).
Something I don't like about the novel when it turned out that Abra's mother Luci is Stone is(illeagal) Half-sister of Dan Torrence. I think this Arc is not necessary at all for the story line.
I think the ending of the movie version is way better than the novel.
All in all. I enjoyed reading Doctor sleep, not every part, but most of it. It was a unique experience. I think Doctor Sleep beat the Shining! Let me know youe thoughts on the comments :)
I haven't seen the movie yet. But I just finished the book and I was... disappointed, I guess. I dunno, maybe I was expecting too much but it just felt sort of blah to me as compared to how much I loved reading The Shining. Im not quite sure what it felt like it was missing but I just felt like I didn't end up getting nearly as invested in the story like when I was reading The Shining. Thoughts?
King is my all-time favorite author and there hasnβt been a book of his I havenβt liked. Hill scratches that same itch with his stories and itβs like Iβm reading the same voice. Whether or not Hill purposefully writes like his father, itβs exciting to catch small details referring to an already-established universe and I hope he continues to do it. Itβs almost like different authors writing Star Wars novels - they all have their different styles but continue to flesh out preexisting characters while creating new ones. Just thought Iβd share!
Excuse any typos, Iβm not proofreading this so I can continue to read. :)
*FYI NOS4A2 is only the second Hill book Iβve read, The Fireman being the first! If anyone has a suggestion for Hill or any other fantasy/horror/thriller authors, Iβd love to hear them!
I've already read it, I just can't remember.
I really really enjoyed the film, it had beautiful pacing that fit all the elements in the book and reworked them to fit even better. The cinematography was just immclaculate - the blending of Kubriks The Shining elements and the novel The Shining just felt right. Plus those scenes of the earth spinning just look immaculate. And surprising to say, I enjoyed it more than the book, particularly the ending.
tl;dr: I preferred the Doctor Sleep film to the novel
I'd love to hear everyone's thoughts?
Please don't ban me for this, lmao, but did anyone else think not only that Doctor Sleep was a formidable adaptation, but also that the ending was actually better than King's novel? That final showdown at the Overlook Hotel was just... chef's kiss
I do prefer the book ending because it's a lot more peaceful and >!Dan doesn't die!<, but the movie kept me on the edge of my seat for its entire run, and the ending makes for better storytelling, IMHO.
When I first read the book, I thought thereβs no way they could possibly do a movie adaptation that could stay true the original movie AND the book sequel at the same time - but somehow, my god did they pull it off.
First thing that impressed me was how well Ewan McGregor captured the spirit of Daniel, such as the need to speak to Tony when really distressed, and having inherited traits from his parents (the aggression and alcoholism of his father, and the good heart of his mother).
The second thing that impressed me was how well the new actors resembled the original actors from the shining (Wendy Torrance, Dick Hallorann, Jack Torrance, even the ghosts).
The third thing that impressed me was how they recreated the cold, desolate atmosphere of the original movie once they reach the overlook hotel. It was as if watching The Shining again.
The fourth thing I loved was the catharsis. You hate the villain so much, especially after the brutal murder of a little boy, that when she gets her comeuppance at the hands of the terrifying ghosts of the overlook, you canβt help but cheer.
The final thing that impressed me the most was how the ending was able to finally succeed where the original movie failed: a sense of warmth and genuine emotion. Danny finally finds redemption, and the overlook gets the fate it was supposed to get in the original movie. By the end, the spirits of the books and the movies were finally fused together as one.
I truly take my hat off to the people who made this movie. Pure genius.
I canβt recommend this movie enough to fans of The Shining. In fact I truly believe it to be a superior movie to its predecessor.
So I told my doctors about my episodes with SP and having hallucinations. He diagnosed me with Schizophrenia. Is he correct? Iβve been getting SP and Hallucinations. I basically see a female (Which I canβt recall what she look like). Every time I get SP, she touches me on my hips which makes me really uncomfortable and the pressure slowly goes near my groins. I then sometimes feel grips on both my feet and I felt like I was going to get dragged beneath my bed anytime! In some other cases, I always fall into a very deep dark well in my dreams when I get SP and a really loud gorilla screams beside my ears.
So then my doctor told me that he would prescribe me something that would make me fall asleep faster and better so I donβt have to deal with nightmares. I donβt remember the name of the medication but when I googled it, it was for schizophrenia and not insomnia (the medication does have side effects of falling asleep faster hut it is not used ti treat insomnia).
I am very frustrated with how I was dealt with. I felt like I was treated as a person with mental illnessπ‘π€¬π - P.S. I didnβt take them.
I do want some opinions from redditors and other people who had experienced with SP and hallucinations. Have guys gotten diagnosed with Schizophrenia for having such experience?
I was able to stop this by religious stuff, prayers and it involved spiritual healers. To make this post not too long Iβll probably write it on another post or in the comments if anyone is interested to know. I also hope to not get any judgements and this was very hard for me to share whether itβs anonymous or notβ¦
Edit: Thank you for all the comments. Bless everyone! I also remember the prescription: It was Quetiapine!
I finally got around to reading Doctor Sleep so I decided to rewatch the movie. I have to say that Mike Flanagan was given a difficult task and I think he knocked it out of the park. To make that story work as a sequel to the original movie (which is very different from the source material) in a way that is satisfying to fans and doesn't piss off the man himself is pretty impressive. Top 5 favorite SK movie adaptations.
Just watched Stephen Kingβs 2019 film Doctor Sleep last night not a huge fan of psychological horror films but I said what the heck gave a chance and I was not disappointed. This is basically a sequel to Steven kings 1980 film the shinning. This film had parts that really stuck with me no spoilers but it was really fascinating I highly recommend this film for those who like horror suspense psychological thrillers.
Please let me kno any opinions Or thoughts you may have this film
When I was 15 I was diagnosed with sleep apnea but very mild. I stopped breathing 30 times a night in the 6 hours of sleep I got. I was told to lose weight. I lost 15 pounds.
Now after five years of depression and anxiety meds, an adhd diagnosed and starting vyvanse and fibromyalgia at the age of 22, my doctor sent me again.
And now I stop breathing 12 times an hour. The sleep doctor said that itβs only mild and since I have mental health issues I should see a sleep psychiatrist over CPaP. Except my brain waves were normal. I fell asleep normally. And thereβs evidence now that sleep apnea can actually cause depression, anxiety and fibro. He even told me the issue is my breathing, so it is obstructive apnea.
Has anyone else had this experience? It was quite frustrating to see my mental illness following me around and getting in the way of proper treatment. I donβt need a benzo to cure obstructive apnea
Has anyone tried CPaP with mild apnea? Literally Iβm tired all the time, feel moody, and my head hurts as I write this because I had the audacity to wake up. Was asleep from 11-8.
I have my mild OSA. I've been on CPAP for a while but I still don't feel refreshed in the morning.
My sleep doctor has prescribed Xanax to see if it's caused by anxiety.
I got a prescription for 250mcg but I plan on just taking half.
I've been reading that Xanax is discouraged for sleep apnea because it might make the apnea worse.
Doctor said that this is just temporary just narrow down the cause.
Anyone else had to take xanax or similar drugs with regards to OSA?
Thanks.
Doctor Sleep was added to Netflix in Canada this week and since I missed it in theatres I finally caught up with it! I was super impressed with how it adapted the novel while at the same time serving as a sequel to Kubrick's film. This was definitely one of the better Stephen King adaptations I've seen in a long time.
And only then will I find peace

... keep reading on reddit β‘I'm pretty new to King's books. I just read The Shining, and I'm halfway through 'It' but I absolutely fell in love with his writing. The thing is that I thought The Shining had a perfect ending and it didn't need a continuation. So well, what do you think? Did you enjoy it? Does it... Do justice to The Shining? (I you don't mind, no spoilers please) Edit: thank you for all your answers :)
