A list of puns related to "Dirk Pitt"
I'm new around here. Just wanted to briefly mention that, for those who are not aware, Dirk Pitt and Clive Cussler's watch brand of choice, Doxa, has had a bit of a resurgence in the past year since releasing a new line of watches and going through a minor rebrand. The brand is pretty frequently discussed over on r/Watches and has gone from a cult following to a respected icon. I've seen Cussler come up quite a few times on that subreddit, usually from someone commenting that they always wanted a Doxa because of the Dirk Pitt novels.
I grew up reading the Dirk Pitt novels as a child and young adult and the frequent references to Doxa is partially what got me into watches years down the line. I own one now and love it. I haven't read the books in years, but every time I wear my Doxa, it reminds me of the hours spent reading Cussler's novels. Kind of a fun way to stay connected with that part of my younger years.
When I was younger I read Sahara and enjoyed the story. It wasn't particularly well written or entertaining, more like popcorn.
Recently, I decided to try to go back to his first two novels... and I just can't. The character I enjoyed as a knowledgeable rogue seems to have started out as an incredibly rapey know-it-all. I put down book 2 after three scenes. If you've read the Mediterranean Caper, I'm sure you know which scene made me quit.
I'm just trying to figure out how this character ever managed to evolve past his origins to hit bestseller lists, instead of dying an ignominious death on the review lists. Any insight?
r1 all of them are naked and fight hand to hand
r2 no body armour fight with .45 calibre pistols from 50 meters away
r3 all of them are in the peak gear they have used (ie juan in his corperation body, armour combat leg and weapons kurt in his stealth suit and railgun)
r4 naval battle between the Oregon gryphon and the whaling ship in the titanic secret
bonus round numa vs van dorn vs the corperation
Round 1 - Dirk Pitt
I have read nearly all of Clive Cussler's Dirk Pitt Adventures. While the movie attempts have not done so well (Raise The Titanic and Sahara), Watching season 2 of Jack Ryan has me craving a TV Series of Dirk Pitt Adventures. Thoughts?
I wish I had more to go on but I read them when I was fairly young and can't remember for the life of me what any of them are called.
So I've been meaning to find some good adventure fiction. I have a few choices, but I want to ask about the Dirk Pitt books specifically. After I heard that the author did some professional shipwreck diving or whatever, I become very intrigued. But there's so many books in the series!
So, just wondering if I should read them in chronological order or do the books in the series work as stand along stories?
I've read all books about Dirk's adventures and also read the Oregon Files cycle. Thanks in advance!
upd: Thanks for your suggestions, I'll certainly have a good time!
Fresh reader here.
Should I read in chronological order or by date of publication. I was leaning towards chronological. Cheers!
I'm just in the mood for that pulpy kinda action/adventure hero. I say light humour because well I like to have a laugh but not to have the comedy take over, I still want to feel for my characters. I feel the two examples I gave above do that kind of well.
Is there any? I love the fantasy provided by Dirk Pitt, Tomb Raider, Indy, and Uncharted. I am a lover of books, movies, and games of this genre. I want to know if any feminists here have any female protagonists they would recommend from the Fantastical Archaeological genre! Thank you!
The Dirk Pitt series has been my guilty pleasure for a long time. Wondering if there is any similar action/adventure series that are maybe slightly more realistic.
I really like stories with a normal character that is thrust into an extraordinary situation. Recently read and really enjoyed Dark Matter by Blake Crouch.
Hi,
holidays are coming and I will lay down at the beach, eating, drinking and reading for two weeks straight. But I'm searching for stuff similar to the Pendergast or the Dirk Pitt Series ... fully over the top Characters that outclass even James Bond.
Thanks for your recommendations.
I've been on a serious adventure kick lately, and have read through the title's authors more times than I can count. But now I need something new. I've read through David Woods' Dane Maddock books, and they're ok, but they just don't hit the spot.
What I really want is more adventure novels which combine a healthy dose of science or history with the adventure -- and not just with quick references, but with actual depth the way James Rollins and Clive Cussler's books manage to do, as well as Jurassic Park or Congo from Michael Crichton, with the way he intersperses real science and information with the plot.
So, any suggestions?
Pretty sure Q recommended this series of books? I have seen a couple for sale cheap and wanted to hear q talk about them again.
Any once else read them and recommend?
Does the series need to be read in order?
Thanks in advance
I am a huge Clive Cussler fan, particularly his Dirk Pitt novels. I have read almost every single one of his books and looking for a new book. Anything that is along the lines of Clive Cussler would be awesome
So I have been reading the Dirk Pitt series for a year now, I just finished The Treasure of Khan and I was wondering how it compared to the latter books. Does pitt sr. Play a larger role in them or are they more focused on the kids?
What is everyone's favorite? Book? Movie? Car? Villain? Love Interest?
