Anyone else sick of seeing these polling sites advertising there poll-taking sign ups as work from home data entry roles - some of us would like the latter job but can't find them in a sea of these.....
Edit: Yes, this was a scam. Be careful when you apply through Indeed.com ... Updated: I called & the person said it was a scam on Indeed.com & they tried to get the ad down but Indeed.com was being slow.
My uncle is telling me to check and see if this company is actually hiring for data entry clerks.
He is concerned that maybe I am being scammed?
The person who interviewed me is communicating with me through Skype messaging. He sent me a $2500 check recently for office equipment for the job and software (he told me I was accepted for the job a few days ago before this). It's being processed at the moment since I did give it to the bank and they said they would check to make sure it's real. He said that I will also be trained as well and paid for the training too.
I will be calling the company tomorrow morning from their main website to see if "John Doe" (hiding his name for his privacy if this is a real person and we are just being paranoid) is an actual employee with them and that I was actually hired (just to confirm) to work as a data entry clerk with them.
I also left them an email as well from their official website with the same sort of message that I have here but worded more formally and in email format.
My uncle said it may be possible that it is a scammer, but I am not sure. I was optimistic and if this is real, great... I can't exactly see how a scammer would send me money through a check to scam me shrugs... But any ideas or experiences from people that would be great, I am still learning about data entry clerk stuff.

I am writing this long-ish post as a word of caution for those who have seen or applied for the position of Data Entry Clerk for Officemax/Grand and Toy (GAT). This is a scam going on in the GTA confirmed by GAT.
Beware of all looking to apply for an appealing (but not too appealing) position on Indeed. This position is a scam and is fake that preys on people who are job-hunting. I almost fell for this scam, and by almost fell for this I mean that I provided a lot of my information but didn't lose any money. This is a very elaborate scheme where one or several people behind the scheme pose as many different real workers form Grand and Toy / Officemax to communicate with you to give you a job offer working from home as a data entry clerk. Here is my experience in the scheme.
I received an email from GAT (so it seemed; the email address contained the name) that instructed me to complete an online interview. I didn't think much of this since GAT is a large company and I just thought this made sense to expedite the process since the Data Entry position doesn't really require much people skills. The website where I completed the interview had all of the standard interview questions and the UI looked polished and clean and convincing - nothing fishy here.
So about 24 hours after completing the interview I received a call after sending an application in for this position on Indeed. It was from a woman who didn't speak english very well and was basically reading from a script it seemed. This was a little odd for me but I thought nothing of it since its not uncommon to have people who know english as a second language working. Anyways, she congratulated me on the job and told me to look out for an email with my contract.
Upon receiving my contract, it was your standard contract with a high ranking official signature and letterhead and everything. I signed it and sent it back with several forms of documentation that were required. I was then provided with a login to a portal called Bitrix that allows you to complete various tasks and is basically a remote working portal. It looked convincing again, with nothing out of the ordinary in my opinion. I was told that I would begin my home-office setup (whatever that meant) with the IT manager - Alan Williams. As an aside, I did look him up on Linkedin and he was showing as an IT manager at GAT (no photo), but I can't find that profile any longer, so they may be using random names and creating fake Linkedin prof

After several months of joblessness and a brief month at McDonald's, I finally got an offer as a TEMPORARY Data Entry Clerk ($12/Hr, TX). But now I'm thinking to myself: besides the money, what will I gain from this job that will help me land a better job?
I studied a very useless degree International Affairs and graduated with even more a useless GPA (1.8) and very poor research and writing skills (though I'm privately working on them now). I have gaps in my employment history too, so you get the drift: I'm very unemployable. Yet I want to change things.
I'm elated about this job but I'm also sad that it's practically useless. What can I do? What are your thoughts?
Iβm looking for a new job and Iβm considering data entry because itβs part time and Iβm a college student studying Computer Science. Can anyone who has been a entry level data entry clerk explain exactly what it is? Jotting down info from a paper to a computer doesnβt seem that hard, but I could see how some unexpected difficulties could arise or come with the job.
Mother, Father, this is it.
As you well know, Brooke and I will be boarding the Hope in a little over two weeks, bound for the far reaches of the galaxy. Brooke's injury means she can no longer serve as security detail for Morgan's Brew. It has fallen on me to support the family, and my strengths being based purely in technology means that there is next to nothing available here on Earth. Out there however, I can apply my trade for the board to my fullest potential. No more odd jobs here and there, but a full contract. I will do you proud, I swear.
While we were unable to leave with the first wave aboard the Groundbreaker tomorrow, we will be following on behind them. Instead we will make up the cogs and gears in this brand new corporate machine in a whole new world of possibility. I will simply need to give it my all and maybe one day I will be rubbing shoulders with key board members!
We should meet for dinner one last time in the next few days. It's going to be hard to say our final goodbyes I'm sure, but as you always said, you wanted nothing but the best for me. I think this is it. Nothing else can go wrong from here on out!
All our love,Andris and Brooke X
All right, I'm turning to Reddit for this one.
I'm currently out of work and seeking full-time employment as a file clerk, data entry clerk, administrative assistant, or receptionist. Basically entry-level office work.
As for qualifications, I have 7 months experience as a clerk in a law firm, 21 years experience as a dry cleaning counter clerk and office manager, and worked as a copyeditor and proofreader for an independent tabletop RPG. As far as education, I have approximately half an Associate's degree with a strong emphasis on English. I am proficient with Microsoft Word and have some QuickBooks experience, as well as various legal software and dry cleaning software. My schedule preferences are for M-F 8-5 (or thereabouts), with weekends off. I can provide my resume on request to prospective employers.
Thanks all.

I just got offered a position which begins around the end of November and was curious if anyone else had same or similar experience with this kind of work.
The guy I spoke with told me that they are VERY busy right now since they are recruiting 3500 people across the country for these positions.
Anyone have any insight please let me know
Hi! Ive been job hunting recently through indeed and linkedin. I found an easy apply link for a data entry clerk position for a company based in connecticut. I live in nyc. I got an email telling me to email the hr supervisor to schedule an online interview. She had me download google hangouts and the interview and everything was conducted through there. I did research the company and it does exist as well as the names of the people ive been in contact with. The weird part is that she says theyre gonna send me a check to buy supplies and software so i can work from home. This was on monday. On tuesday, she said i was hired, sent me an employment offer letter with the companys watermark on the pages. Ive been having to "report" to her every day at 8 am to get updates on the check. Thursday she said she "just got the details" and i should be looking out for it on friday. Friday she says sorry about the delay bla bla then today saturday, same story so i ask her if there is a tracking # for the mail and she says shes waiting on those details and will give them to me as soon as she has them. I dont have much experience with jobs or situations like this as ive worked in construction and got paid cash pretty much all my life so im very confused. She hasnt asked me for cc or ss information other than a copy of my id. As per sub guidelines, im not clear if its ok to post the company's name as i still dont know if this is all legit or not. Could this be any type of scam or not legit in any way at all or is this normal for a company to do?
