A list of puns related to "Critical criminology"
Sudenly out of nowhere, my uni started talking refering to critical criminology when talking about crime, yet I see no diference whatsoever in content and that has me very confused, as if any sentence that has the term "critical criminology" could be switched for just "criminology" and still mean the same thing, google says it's criminology but challenging old views surrounding crime, but that sounds just like a social science modernizing itself like any single social science that exists does if you ask me, as if the term "critical criminology" was kind of useless, if not, what am I missing?
Hey all!
I applied to (and have been accepted into) the Brock Critical Crim program; I was looking for some opinions or reviews of the program, classes, etc.
What should I expect that may differ from normal degrees? Does Law Plus mesh well with the program? Is there anyone on this thread that is in the program that I can talk to in the future.
Thanks so much. Looking forward to starting in the fall.
This free course, Introduction to critical criminology, provides a brief introduction to critical criminological thinking. It defines the ways in which critical criminologists take a 'critical stance' on the fundamental concepts, practices and institutions associated with crime and criminal justice systems.

Was having this discussion last night with a friend and was struggling to articulate some of the criticism of feminist criminology. It seems somewhat intuitive that there are more factors that cause crime in general, and particularly violence against women, than just "masculinity", "patriarchy" etc.
So what are some of the criticisms of feminist criminology? That is to say, what are the limits to the approach(es) of feminist criminology? I am already relatively familiar with some of the claims made by feminist criminologists.
Long time lurker, first time poster, big fan of the pod.
To open, I am not here to criticize anyone's enjoyment of True Crime, but rather be critical of the genre itself and how it treats real victims of real crimes; I hope discourse can be civil and my intentions understood. The psychology of criminology is incredibly interesting and I'm not here to guilt-trip fans of the genre! Iβve been contemplating saying something since Ethan brought up the possibility of a True Crime podcast on a recent ep of Leftovers, and while listening to the 2021 recap episode of Trash Tuesday today (nosotros papaya, shoutout to the Slept family), Annieβs comments on the name change from βBloodbathβ motivated me to write this post.
The tendency for True Crime to sensationalize gruesome murders that are most typically femicide / murderous homophobia/transphobia / abuse of POC/minority groups, troubles me. It is a point of contention that victims are named right alongside their killerβs, and their brutal murders detailed for the public. Not to get all Gary Vee and tongue my dad, but imagine a loved one having their life stolen from them in the form of a hateful or sadistic murder, only to be accompanied by the theft of their legacy in the form of True Crime media coverageβ¦forever linking their name and likeness to their killer is to murder them over and over again, in my eyes.
Furthermore, the torture, rape, and murder of women, WOC, POC, queers, etc., is not sensational; it is not even *unusual*, and I urge H3 to consider their growing audience and be aware of re-traumatizing minority, queer, and female viewers that have had the sad but all-too-common tragedy of losing a loved one to hateful or sadistic violence. I know this will be an unpopular opinion because True Crime has been a super popular genre the last decade+, but whenever there's a new podcast or project, it works its way into the "regular" H3 content, and I selfishly really *really* don't want a bunch of femicide references all over my previously scheduled H3 content.

Hi all! I'm currently writing an applied case study and have been asked to relate it to one criminological theory. I'm writing about a domestic abuse case that led to the murder of the woman being abused, followed by the murder committing suicide days later. The problem is, I'm struggling to relate it to any of the theories of victimology we've covered in class so far (positivist, radical and critical), as none of them really fit.
Positivism is very victim blame-y which doesn't really work as if I was to try and apply it to the essay, the woman in question went to the police multiple times about the perpetrator and got a restraining order against him (that was lifted after he requested access to the area as it was "essential" for him), so it's not like it was her fault he was allowed access to her again.
Critical could be a possibility, obviously there's the fact that as a woman and single mother she was more likely to be a victim of DV, but aside from that she came from a fairly privileged background
Radical seems to be more focused the power structure between the ruling class and the oppressed classes, but both victim and perpetrator were working/middle class and I struggle to see how i can relate this DV case to the exploitation of the proletariat.
I would be really open to any theories that would better relate to the case study, and obviously please correct me if I'm wrong about any of the theories I've mentioned above
I don't want to step on anybody's toes here, but the amount of non-dad jokes here in this subreddit really annoys me. First of all, dad jokes CAN be NSFW, it clearly says so in the sub rules. Secondly, it doesn't automatically make it a dad joke if it's from a conversation between you and your child. Most importantly, the jokes that your CHILDREN tell YOU are not dad jokes. The point of a dad joke is that it's so cheesy only a dad who's trying to be funny would make such a joke. That's it. They are stupid plays on words, lame puns and so on. There has to be a clever pun or wordplay for it to be considered a dad joke.
Again, to all the fellow dads, I apologise if I'm sounding too harsh. But I just needed to get it off my chest.

I'm surprised it hasn't decade.
For context I'm a Refuse Driver (Garbage man) & today I was on food waste. After I'd tipped I was checking the wagon for any defects when I spotted a lone pea balanced on the lifts.

The investigations subsequently led to hypothesize the existence of instigators of the crimes. This hypothesis is based on some statements by Giancarlo Lotti (who declared in the trial that the body parts were bought by an unknown "doctor") and on the discovery of a possible esoteric symbol, a pyramid trunk of colored granite, about fifteen centimeters long, found a few meters from the lifeless bodies of the couple killed in October 1981. However, it should be remembered that this object is often used as a doorstop in the Tuscan countryside. Other alleged evidence of a possible magical-esoteric motive occurred on the occasion of the last crime; a few days before being murdered the two victims had camped in the Calenzano area but were asked to leave by a gamekeeper, as free camping was not allowed in that area. Later the same gamekeeper found, not far from the place where the two had camped for the first time, three stone circles, two of which were open and one closed and conteined berries, burnt animal skins and wooden crosses. However, the episode of the gamekeeper was recently disputed. In fact, the presence of the couple in Calenzano didn't appear from the receipts that the couple used to keep during their travels; furthermore, all possible sightings of the French couple deserve reflection and the benefit of the doubt. This is due to the fact that the photo of the French victim that ended up in the newspapers showed the woman with very short hair, while in September '85 Nadine had long hair. Moreover, the frequentations of Pacciani and Vanni during the years of the murders fueled a stream of inquiry into possible esoteric motives and rites linked to Satanism. In particular, Pacciani and Vanni frequented a man called Salvatore Indovino, a magician and fortune teller originally from Catania. They usually spent time together at a farmhouse located in the countryside of San Casciano, where, according to many, orgies and rites connected to occultism were consumed. During the searches carried out by the State Police at Pacciani's home, at least three books were found that can be linked to black magic and Satanism. The so-called esoteric lead is also linked to the large sums of money that Pacciani came into possession during the years of the crimes, from which the idea was born that the "snack companions" acted on behalf of unknown personalities interested in deriving "fetishes" from mutilated bodies. Pacciani, a modes

This sub is mostly just NSFW puns now.
If it needs a NSFW tag it's not a dad joke. There should just be a NSFW puns subreddit for that.
